I'm assuming this is where this goes, since it's not a direct narrative? XD

Rosalind arrived a little early to help Corrie with the set-up and/or to keep children occupied while the grown-ups accomplished things. She brought two gifts, wrapped in one package. This coloring book and a book of stories (made age appropriate, of course).

Corrie probably sent her over to the kids, because friends willing to distract the kids while you get stuff done are priceless.

I kind of want that coloring book right now.

Rosalind will very happy lead the kids in some easy games or weave flower crowns and tell stories or something to keep them out of the way.

ME TOO. I don't care how old I get, I will always love coloring books.

Corrie
[info]coruscating
2014-10-04 06:37 pm UTC (link)
Corrie is a little bit frazzled because she's been planning the party for weeks and she really wants it to be fun for the kids and not totally boring for the adults, though let's face it, the emphasis is pretty squarely on the kids here. She was more worried about things than about people though, if that makes sense? She's pretty sure the kids will have fun so she'll watch them, but not like a hawk, there's enough people willing to kind of rotate through keeping an eye on kids so she'll be chatting with adults and watching the food situation unless kids start shrieking or something, which, given the age of the children, will definitely happen at some point. Happy to talk to people, especially about their kids. Proud of what she put together. A bit distracted when tiny voice raise, but very willing to let other people handle the kids most of the time. (She'll just have those moments of "Where's Sophie? Where's Em?" where she has to track them down right then.

Also a little distracted by the knowledge that her teammates could show up at any minute, but she'll deal with it when and if it happens.

Eamon

2014-10-04 08:21 pm UTC (link)
Eamon also arrived a bit early, partially to offer any help Corrie and Gaius might need, but mostly because he had to leave early and felt kinda bad about that. If anyone is paying close enough attention, they might notice that Eamon is acting a little bit off, especially since normally he's very excitable before a game. If anyone asks he'll just wave them off.

His gifts, each inexpertly stuffed into a pair of gift bags with crumpled tissue paper on top to sort of try and hide things, were a box of kinetic sand and a book of muggle fairy tales.

KINETIC SAND IS SO COOL. A+ GIFTING.

I was going to say that Corrie would be too distracted to notice he was off, but that actually might be something she would notice, at least vaguely, if she was trying to put him to work. You have to know what people are up to doing to delegate properly.

But she wouldn't have put two and two together at that point, so she might notice next week or something and get at him about it!

She did, however, set him to work setting up food and things!

EAMON'S NOT A REGULAR BABY SITTER, HE'S A COOL BABY SITTER~ Only the best for his favorite sprogs.

Eamon was praying she didn't notice (but she totally should and bug him about it at her leisure) and took immediately to helping out with set up! He was also one of the people who kept an eye on the kids so that she could relax a little more, at least until he had to bow out and get ready for the game.

SUPER COOL BABY SITTER!

And Corrie can be pretty perceptive when it comes to emotions and how people are acting and all of that. So she probably will bug him about it! Just... not right now, because I'm at the airport, ha. She did definitely appreciate his looking after the kids, and might have taken advantage of all the babysitters attending to steal some schmoopy time with her husband.

Jehan

2014-10-05 01:08 am UTC (link)
Arriving fashionably late was Jehan, looking tired and a bit rumpled, which is par for the course on post-match days, but generally pleased. He put his nicely wrapped gift of a toy cat in the appropriate pile and proceeded to avoid all small children and eat as many of the strawberry mice as he could get away with.

Jehan held up his arm and promised he'd gotten it completely seen over and everything was fine, but let her fuss a little longer than he would with most people, and then eventually changed the subject to how she thought her chances were for her match on Sunday and how she was doing and how are her parents doing and so on.

IT'S EVEN CALLED SOPHIE OMGRBGKHJ <3 IT

Corrie teased him about hangovers (without saying the word hangover, but making it pretty clear in her dancing-around what she was teasing him about) and tried to shoo him over to the children a couple times, but not actually expecting it to work (because she's doubtless done it before).

And she told him to eat other stuff too, get some protein in you.

Re: Jehan

I KNOW RIGHT. Originally he was going to give her a toy hippo, because Jehan is like that, but then I found the cat and I had to. It was too perfect.

Jehan rolled his eyes in a good natured sort of way and hinted that he, at least, held his alcohol better than Morgan. All attempts to shoo him towards anyone shorter than his waist ended in complete failure, as it always does. Sorry Corrie. He adores you, but children? Lolnope. He did compliment her on the party, though, and said it looked at least like all the kids were having a good time.

That comment made him pull a face, and he aggressively stuffed the largest strawberry mouse into his cheek, just because. His sweet tooth is insatiable, and he cannot be stopped.

Oh man I had a toy hippo when I was a kid. I loved that hippo. BUT the Sophiekitty is also amazing and adorable and girl loves it and is going to drag it around everywhere.

Corrie rolled her eyes at the comment about Morgan, because lightweight. And was pleased by the compliment. And said that he's as bad as Em with that sweet tooth!

Gwydion was pleased to come! He showed up sans cool leather jacket but with presents: a Little Red Riding Hood cape and a beautifully illustrated storybook.

And he got down on the ground to play with the kids some, but he mostly chatted with the League-affiliated adults in attendance. He didn't stay terribly long -- bowed out early to prepare for the Catapults' match -- but at least said 'pen-blwydd hapus' to the birthday girl and ate a pickle snail because holy cow those are the most adorable things. Now I'm off to make myself some pickle snails.

Oh wow, that book looks gorgeous. And Corrie is totally in favor of stories that teach you to listen to your mum!

Corrie chatted with him a lot, because hey, the one ex that she's on good terms with. Thanked him for coming, said he didn't have to bring a gift but was pleased with the gift, etc, etc. Wished him good luck in the match even though he's obviously not playing.

(AND I KNOW, RIGHT? I love those freaking snails. All of it. Ugh, so cute.)

Though I'm sure Corrie was hoping he'd realize second birthday parties are not really his scene, Manu did NOT in fact realize this, and arrived right on time. (Confession: he's kind of lonely for his own family back in Uganda, which certainly includes some kid cousins. He likes kids. He relates to their confidence, ego, and unawareness of consequences. So being invited to a kiddie party like he's accepted into the family touches him, Corriepye, it touches his heart.)

He was delighted to be there and had a grand old time flirting with all the ladies, watching the kids play, and bragging up how he was going to perform like a master at the game later on. He also dropped off his present for the birthday girl, which was a trumpeting elephant toy. And then he left to go get ready for the game, to the relief of all.

Re: OOC?

Ahaha Corrie totally was hoping that. She made a face when she realized he'd arrived, half at herself for getting drunk enough to invite him. And then she had to recover from public face-making and be a good hostess.

She made another face when she saw his present, a face that all parents of young children could recognize as "it makes noise? why would you do that to me?" But, Sophie being a little kid, doubtless adores it for that very reason. Snuggly soft noise-making toy? Super popular.

So any flirting he did to Corrie rolled off her back like it generally does, and her response to his bragging was more or less, "I'm not worried about you so much as the reserve," which I suspect he would take as a compliment. And I guess is a compliment in a way, though it's more of a dismissive thing sort of.

The Ryans made it! Three-year-old Keira of course made a beeline for the other kids, toys, and cake, in that order; newly-one-year-old Patrick stayed in Donnie's arm much of the time so as not to get run over by more successfully toddling toddlers. Donnie kept a close eye on Keira's play to make sure she didn't get hurt (he's a bit of a hoverer, I can't deny this), but he also chatted with the other parents a fair bit and was as reasonable and relaxed as he ever is the day before a match. Which is to say, not terribly. He has a lot on his mind, okay. But he was sure to greet Sophia and Emmerdale and was very gentle and careful with everybody else's kids.

Presents! IDK, being parents themselves and understanding how toys can multiply underfoot, I'm thinking the Ryans brought Sophia something practical, like a pair of winter boots maybe? Also a nice bottle of wine for her parents. :)

Keira broke her wings and Patrick tried to eat his flower crown before the party was over, but hey, fixing stuff is what magic is for. Then the Ryans went home to put the kids down for a nap (and possibly take a nap themselves).

Corrie LOVES talking to other parents, she says there aren't enough in the League. So she'd've talked to him, about kids because she doesn't really want to talk to him about Quidditch. Whether that's just right now at her daughter's birthday party or ever I'm not really sure but...

It amuses her, knowing his past, to see him being gentle with children. I think that's something that could have worried her in the past, but she's way past that now and just thinks it's sweet and a bit incongruous.

She was very very very grateful for practical gifting and for wine.

I am late but Rory would not be. Actually, she probably stayed over the night before because she was helping and to make sure it wasn't actually possible for her to be late. Who knew that Rory could be crafty? She's not but she took one for the team and helped anyway. Late night flower-crown weaving anyone? There was probably a lot of swearing.

Other than that, she probably alternated between chatting with the adults and letting the children climb all over her aka riling them all up because she's Rory and that's what she does. At some point someone (probably the birthday girl) put a flower crown on her and she wore it for the rest of the day like a champ.

If any of the kids were interested, Rory also would have facilitated little baby-Quidditch games on foot with plushy Quidditch toys that she probably brought as a gift for the children anyway. She is surprisingly patient with kids though she wouldn't have been fussed when they lost interest or just started running around pretending to fly, ha.

As for gifts (other than toy Quidditch, yo) I will have to get back on this because have to get ready to go out and I know she'd have put a lot of thought into this cause she adores Sophia. Basically if she had asked her for anything, Rory would have got it for her.

I imagine the Prides were a bit surprised to see Rory in this light cause she definitely doesn't act like this at practice/matches, ha. She'd have been really disappointed to leave the party though, to prepare for their match that night and she told Sophia she would try to win for her!

I didn't make this I just found it.

Eamon dropped by to say hello to her and compliment her on her flower crown. By which I mean he told her she looked like a pretty, pretty princess and he hoped she wore it during her match as a sign of her surely impending victory.

He had to leave fairly early, but if the baby-Quidditch games were before then, he would have helped her out with them, and probably picked up kids and swung them around while making flying sound effects for the "full Quidditch experience."

Hahaha that is absolutely perfect!!

Rory would have graciously accepted the compliment and probably been a bit cheeky about it. She's not really used to Quidditch people seeing her outside her Quidditch life, ha. She would have enjoyed it if he played the baby-Quidditch with her and the kids, though!!

Bless Tumblr's love of flower crowns.

Eamon enjoys the cheekiness. Also, I must say, when he heard she didn't wear the crown during her match he was very disappointed. For shame, Rory, for shame! He had a blast playing baby-Quidditch with her and the kids though. Also might have encouraged them to pretend Rory was the Snitch and THEY ALL HAD TO GO CATCH HER. RIGHT NOW!!!! Corrie was SO GRATEFUL for the help on the crowns, seriously. SUPER SUPER grateful. And friendtime made her want to drink wine, and made her miss Wednesday night girltime.

And THANK YOU Rory for organzing baby Quidditch, I wasn't sure how to fit brooming in. Corrie finally got to give Sophie the toy broom she'd got her ages ago (she waited until after the party) but it's not plushy so plushy Quidditch toys are awesome and the kids loved them. Rory missed girltime, too, though she wouldn't admit as much!! She enjoyed it despite the swearing and probably (thankfully) passed on the wine because man that would make it even harder wouldn't it? Also, she wouldn't want to mess up Sophie's stuff because she does love that little girl a lot.

There had to be SOME Quidditch going on, right? I'm just amused at the thought of little plushy bludgers gently bouncing about, haha. Rory is VERY pleased that Sophie got her broom because it's about time, right? She would have wished she could stay to see her try it but ya know, game night! She's sad Corrie's not playing but she TOTALLY gets it.

I am SUPER LATE but Nayana was not XD Sir Quackswaddle showed up, gosling squire in tow, and entertained the kids to give the adults some time to chat and socialise (and potentially clean up after the gift-unwrapping). The birthday girl gets a plush stuffed duck-and-ducklings set, and the other kids get a little plush duckie to take home too. Because that's how Nayana rolls.

Cait arrived on time. She made a point of saying hi to the birthday girl before Sophia got caught up in more interesting things than grown-ups. She complimented the wings and crowns and told Sophia that today she is a King. She added her gift (a picture book about dogs) to the gift pile and then went to socialize with the full grown people. Cait really liked the cutesy food but she expressed that by saying something along the lines of, "that is so cute I'm going to throw up."

She left early because, you know, Quidditch match coming up.
