Rosalind Montague! Your assistance is respectfully requested. Em wants us to take all our mistletoe down because "that's what killed the bald guy." It took me ages to figure out what he was talking about, my first thought involved ghosts.

Needed: Nice myths involving mistletoe. There's a lot of it up, and it's a handy excus I don't feel like taking it all down.

That's the one. She gave them some mythology books, which have obviously gotten some use.

There are no nice myths involving mistletoe. It's a poisonous parasite and an instrument of romantic coercion.

The resident expert says otherwise!

Anyway there's no romantic coercion going on in my house.

I'm still right about it being a poisonous parasite though.

Well, yeah. But it's a poisonous parasite that's been killed and strung up like a gruesome trophy of our triumph over nature.

Well. When you put it that way, I almost start to like the thing.

Oh dear. They read through to the end of the myth, didn't they?

Frigg was able to restore him to life and wept tears of joy that turned into the berries of the mistletoe plant. In celebration, she kissed anyone who passed under the tree on which the plant grew and it was decreed that no harm would ever again befall anyone who stood beneath the mistletoe plant. They would only receive a kiss, a token of love.

If the end of the story doesn't work, I'll come around soon and help you transfigure it all into tinsel.

Ooh! He must have forgot about that part. I know I did, or maybe I didn't read that far myself. (I thought Baldr stays dead until Ragnarok??)

I don't really... like tinsel. So hopefully the ending works. I mean, I think it will. Especially if I tell it, since you know, as Mum telling the story, about the Mum saving him.

Technically, yes, you're right, he did have to stay in the underworld until after Ragnarok, but if I'm remembering the book I gave him correctly, they end it in a bit more of a child-friendly way. I promise to save all the really gritty details of some of the myths at least until he's started Hogwarts.

I'm sure it will work. And if it doesn't, I'll change it to something not tinsel. Garlands? Holly?

Ohhh, okay. Well! Thanks for sparing him for now -- or us, rather. He has enough nights climbing into our bed as it is, we don't need him worrying about Ragnarok as well as tigers and vampires.

That does sound like a more sanitized version, I suppose I should've spotted it. Real old stories don't generally worry about making people feel good.

Missing the p I'm rather fond of mistletoe, honestly, but maybe if we just charm the berries red we can claim it as holly?
