ATTEMPTED WAND THEFT IN DIAGON ALLEY By Betty Braithwaite Shock is still reverberating around the ancient cobbles of Diagon Alley after one of the Wandless vagrants that have been plaguing the area attacked a passerby and attempted the theft of a wand. Obliviator Peony Parkinson was assaulted by a Wandless vagrant mid-shopping trip while she attempting to re-ignite a faded street light, resulting in the victim sustaining minor injuries but retaining her wand. The wand in question, with an heirloom antique handle, was fought for bravely by Miss Parkinson in the unprovoked attack. This is the first report of any Wandless violence against peaceful members of our society in broad daylight, but there are suggestions that the threat has been looming for quite some time. Concerned residents and business-owners from the area voiced surprise that no one had been attacked previously, and some asked if there should be some way of removing these vagrants permanently from Diagon Alley. Business has been difficult with the distracting presence of Wandless in the area and some are calling for further security. With lives and livelihoods to protect, people are rightly concerned that the threat of Wandless violence is now apparent. The unfortunate events of today and the horrible attack on Miss Parkinson is, to many, a sign of worse acts of violence to come. The question of public safety is one that will need to be answered sooner rather than later. The well-wishes of the Prophet are with Miss Parkinson and anyone else impacted by this sudden and unwarranted act of savagery and there is an open call for witnesses or anyone who has seen suspicious activity amongst the Wandless to speak to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. These events have left many shocked and scared by the presence of the Wandless, and some feeling that no good deed goes unpunished. In the words of Miss Parkinson, when interviewed earlier today, “To add insult to injury, I was on my way to Twilfit and Tattings for some gloves to donate to the Society for Distressed Witches. You aim to do some good in the world…” |
