AN INTERVIEW WITH NARCISSA MALFOY: HERO.
ANGELUS ROSIER: Good afternoon valued listeners! Angelus Rosier here with yet another exclusive, intense interview to help shed some light on what truly happened that lead to Potter killing You-Know-Who last May. I’m joined here by Narcissa Malfoy, professional journalist, devoted mother, and unexpected hero who was graciously agreed to give us insight from another vastly important angle. Narcissa, thank you for taking the time to join us. How are you doing today? NARCISSA MALFOY: I’m doing very well, thank you. And how are you? AR: Grand, honestly. It’s always a blessing to sit down with those who are heroes -- especially those who are Rosiers as well. So! I’ve heard that you played a hand in the fall of You-Know-Who, Narcissa. Can you elaborate for us? NM: I'm still not entirely sure what happened — the intricacies of magic are sometimes beyond even the most intelligent person's comprehension — but I'd been dragged to the Forbidden Forest against my will and forced to wait while the Dark Lord's plan unfolded. My husband and I had both just decided that — no matter what happened that night — we were both done following his orders. He had held us hostage in our own home long enough. We were going to find our son Draco and leave. Then, Harry Potter appeared and managed to once again survive the Killing Curse. Whatever happened seemed to have a negative effect on the Dark Lord. He collapsed and when he came to [pause] he told me to check on the Potter boy. AR: He asked you? Why do you believe he chose to send you and not any of his followers to do it? NM: I couldn't say. Most likely to further humiliate my and my husband. AR: Seems like something he’d do. Anyway, my apologies: So you went to check on Potter? NM: And he was alive. I don't really know what came over me. It had been one thing to decide to sneak away, but the Dark Lord was watching me. Very closely. They all were. Even my — they all were. But I lied. I said the Potter boy was dead. AR: [sounding shocked]You lied to You-Know-Who in front of everybody. NM: You have to understand. We'd been confined to our house since Easter, but I would say that we'd all been the Dark Lord's prisoners for much longer. I had reached the end of my tether. Quite literally. AR: No, I understand — that takes a lot of nerve. Of courage. NM: I don't know about that. I'm only thankful he chose me to check on the Potter boy and not someone else. I can't imagine how differently things would've turned out. AR: [clicking his tongue in a tut] I think we can imagine things would be really different right now if he’d chosen someone who actually supported him. So he wasn’t dead, and you made sure everyone thought he was. What happened next? NM: We returned to the castle. I'm not as clear on what happened after that. My husband and I were focused on finding our son. But I'm glad it's all over. I'm grateful to Harry Potter, too, for everything he's done for my family. Especially when we haven't given him reason to. AR: We’re all grateful to Harry Potter for finally ending You-Know-Who, and to everyone who had a hand in helping — you as well, Mrs. Malfoy. Is there anything else you’d like to say about that night, or the previous year? NM: [sounding amused] Mrs Malfoy? AR: Should I not be professional, Cissy? NM: Oh, but we're family, Angie. AR: [a sharp breath as if pained] Some things should stay between family, like that nickname. NM: [laughing] Along with that other nickname, I should think. [clears throat] But no, I've nothing more to say about this year. I'm eager to put it behind me and focus on the future. AR: [upbeat once more] That’s the best possible point, really. We’re all thankful that You-Know-Who is long gone, and we can look forward to all our futures. Thank you for taking the time to come sit for this interview, and a deep thank-you for what you did that night helping Potter on his way. NM: [modestly] Oh, it was nothing. But thank you for having me. AR: You’re very welcome! Thank you for tuning in, Britain, and have a good afternoon. |
