Who: Toru and Kaz
What: HOMOLUST (prefaced by fail)
Where: Uptown
When: Whenever's convenient
Why: NEED MOAR HOMOLUST

A trip to the game shop had turned nigh-disastrous for Toru. He'd gone to look for some new titles to play, as it was Thursday, and he was already out to buy food. But before he could enter the store, a young man passed through the door he had opened. And then a girl, probably a college student. Then a group of kids had come out of the store. Had he a more callous personality, Toru would've gone in and stopped holding it, even if it meant that the door would hit somebody else. However, some basic tenet of his conscience would not allow him to do so. So as a steady stream of people entered and exited the game shop, he was stuck on the outside, still holding the door. One could only guess at how long this would last.

As it turned out, one of the customers of the store happened to be someone relatively familiar! Well, relative by any means of appearance. The general outlook and shape of everything was still okay, but finer details were out of place in a variety of areas. One such area happened to be the face, where three solid cuts had formed parallel lines across the right eye. Another area was the throat, which was covered by a series of bandages which obscured the flesh. Thirdly happened to be the hands, of which the middle fingers were both presented in casts with straightening armaments. The flesh of the palms had been broken and repaired multiple times, and the fingers themselves had been heavily abused. Wrists were lined with what appeared to be healing black spots, along with small red scars.

The teen's clothing had also changed quite a bit from the last public appearance. Where heavy clothing had once been, much lighter and casual things now took their place. A basic t-shirt with some frollicy words of nationalism was worn plainly, giving full reveal to heavily scarred arms from a manner of objects. 'Fashionably' torn jeans were hooked over slim hips, kept in place by a belt which looked to have been clipped on the last nook. From what spaces of denim had been torn away, there was all too predictably malformed pink skin beneath. For footwear, there were a pleasant pair of white sneakers. Perhaps the last detail was the length of hair, which had been drawn into a longish ponytail, while the facial bangs had been kept in the same style.

A small plastic bag containing some object was clasped by this such person, whom had paused half-exited the building (and was currently being pushed further along by other customers). Yet, he dared confirm the appearance of the other in an undeniably stronger voice than was had before (yet which contradicted his worried expression: "Toru-kun?"

"Kazuya-kun!"

It was as if time had slowed down around Toru. The rest of the world, and his half-baked plans for shopping could wait. As soon as the other boy was out of the door, pushed along by the crowd, he let go of it, and rushed forward to meet him. This wasn't the time nor the place for an embrace, but his face said it all. It had been far too long since they last met. And... Kazuya... his appearance. What has he been through? Has his brother been hurting him this whole time?

He looked with concern at his body, noting each scar, mark, cut, and burn. And the ponytail... that was a nice touch. Perhaps he'd keep it... but, alas, it was most likely just another sign of his own self-neglect. Toru shuddered.

"...are you okay?"

"Yup!" The reply was automatic, happy, and quite obviously mechanic. "I just had a few accidents at the workplace. It has quite the reputation for being a nasty area, but I think I'm accustomed enough to avoid much further harm. How are you?"

Nothing about his current personality seemed to hint at anything other than what he said. Perhaps it was simply a series of work accidents, instead of the abuse that an informed person might have assumed?

Toru didn't buy it. What job did such things to a person? Was Kazuya working as a lion tamer or something? And besides, after that encounter with Kazuya's brother... he doubted it was anything so tame. But he bit his lip, resisting the urge to expose the truth, and instead smiled in return. Later, when they were somewhere safer, he would ask.

"O-oh, I see... it must be quite a job, to leave you that battered. Er... do you want to go somewhere with me? It's... it's been too long since we last spoke, I think."

"Sure. There's a park nearby, if you want to sit and talk. I've got most of today to run errands anyway, so it doesn't really matter."

A smile hit his lips, well-practiced and polite. The package clutched within his hands was stuffed into one of his side pockets, and he offered a hand to lead Toru along. The happiness and switch of behavior in itself spelt a surreal level of change. Whatever had happened in the time of foggy contact, it had changed his perspective dramatically. Enough to make him into a smiling, typical teenager.

"Oh, that's a good idea, then... let's go, shall we?"

With a quiet smile, Toru took Kazuya's hand. If there was something perhaps off in the mannerisms of the other, he chose to overlook it. Kazuya was happy again, right? That was enough for now. If he seemed stiff, or overly polite (a bit like Toshimi, really), it was probably from outside influences. The relationship between the two of them would doubtlessly remain the same.

Peacefully, happily, he walked hand-in-hand with Kazuya to the park.

Kazuya merely allowed the silence to continue for a fair ways, staring forward blankly as he walked. Perhaps he was thinking about something, perhaps not. There was a stiff manner to the way he gripped Toru's hand, although that could have been provoked by his broken finger. Still, his palms were cold and unfamiliar to touch. The heavily scarred flesh was cragged to the grip, and not very pleasant to touch. Altogether, the entire hand holding would have been uncomfortable for Toru.

Yet, he broke the silence after some time, speaking abruptly: "I had a dream, last night." His voice was a quiet, yet chilly thing. "The phone rang, in the next room over. When I got up, and picked it up.. A strange thing happened. A voice on the other side, that I could barely make out.. It was one of the most terrifying sounds I have ever heard. It demanded I do unspeakable and horrible things to the people I cared about." His eyes took on a glassy look, for a moment. Almost as if he were re-experiencing it.

Yet, he broke through that malaise to speak again. "Dreams are strange, no?" He turned his head fully to smile at Toru in a manner completely contradictory to the one he had told the dream in.

The cold and damaged hand that held Toru's was a sad travesty to the warm-yet-gloved one that had so gently caressed him in the past. The stiff cast in particular scratched and rubbed against his fingers, and the skin of Kazuya's palm was as rough as a cat's tongue. Nonetheless, he held fast to it.

The tale of the dream moved Toru to a sort of horrified shock. What lurked within the young man's mind, that would torment him with such dreams? It sounded to be a sign of what lay beneath his current demeanor. Toru responded quietly, with a suspicious glance at Kazuya's incongruous smile.

"Sounds to me... like you've got a lot on your mind. Dreams always come from somewhere..." Suddenly, the look in his eyes became almost imploring. "That voice... please don't forget that it was a dream. Don't give in to that."

"Oh, don't worry about that. We all have our problems, mine just drift away with time." The smile remained, as if to reassure Toru of this. Yet, his eyes reflected something to a different degree. It was not so much that they denied the words he spoke, but confirmed them in some dark manner. As if there were something different about the situation than he hinted.

Yet, the park rose up out of the scenery a small distance away. It was a pleasant enough loca, with benches and tables alike for any type of family or friendly venture. As it was, Kaz headed to the nearest available. It was moderately shaded by a bough of overlying Sakura Trees, and Kaz chose to take a seat in the more darkened portion casually. Almost as if he were expecting something, Kaz pulled from his back pocket a simple cellphone, placing it on the table in front of him. He then placed his elbows neatly on the wood, and smiled up at Toru once more.

"If you insist..." There was a darkness in Kazuya's words and actions. This was not the time to confront it.

Calmly enough, Toru took his seat opposite the boy at the table. Such a soothing place! Tranquil green and handsome trees were a welcome sight, especially within the city. Just now he was truly beginning to appreciate that sort of beauty.

The phone on the table caught his attention. "Wh-what's up? Expecting a call? O-or is there something I need to see?" An uncharacteristic fearful nervousness was present in his voice, one that never seemed to materialize when he talked to Kaz normally.

Almost as if triggered by the very question Toru asked, the phone began to ring. The ringtone itself was nothing special, the usual pressing buzz of sound.

Kaz, in turn, gave off a nod and tilted his head slightly. "Yes, I was. Could you get that for me? It's really hard to open and hold a phone with these on." He indicated to both casts on his fingers with an apologetic smile.

Surprised by both the ringing and the request, Toru took a moment before nodding and reaching for the phone.

"Sure."

Toru took the phone in one hand, and pressed the appropriate button to take the call.

"Hello? Th-this is Kazuya's phone... h-he can't answer right now, so, uh... may I ask who's calling, so I can inform him?"

There was a long string of nothing from the other line. Maybe it was some sort of playful joke? Yet Kazuya seemed to be watching intently to figure out whom was calling. It was just quiet.

Then, suddenly. Breathing started on the other line. Low, haggard breaths, as if there were trouble breathing. And a voice began to scratch away at the other line, the words unintelligible through the static. Yet, it began to grow louder and louder. No sense was made of the words. Still, it prodded at the mind. Painful scratching and cracking sounds. Then the demand. Strange, only partially understandable words. Demanding compliance. It seemed so loud now, that surely Kaz should have heard its stinging pitch.

And, suddenly, it stopped, and the other line ended the call. Kaz continued to peer inquisitively forwards.

Toru blinked. "H-hello? Is anybody there?" There appeared to be no sound coming from the phone now. Prank call?

But then the breathing started. It surprised Toru enough to almost make him drop the phone, but he managed to keep hold of it for Kazuya's sake. Following that was the unintelligible voice. Try as he might, Toru could not make heads nor tails of what was being said. It hurt to listen to, too. Such was the volume that he had to hold the phone several inches from his ear, to avoid the pain.

Then, after the crescendo, silence. Toru quietly put the phone down on the table.

"I-I don't know who it was... the call was really staticky, and he didn't seem to be making actual words... just wanted you to obey him, or something like that." There was a sudden, worried, almost pained expression on Toru's face now.

"What's going on? There's something wrong... y-your injuries, your disappearance, your brother threatening me, this phone call... a-and you're acting like nothing's going on! Th-that's..." His head was bowed, and he shook a bit.

"I-I... I care about you too much to let anything bad happen to you. P-please, understand!"

Kaz merely stared at Toru whilst he gave the explanation of what he'd heard, and all of the distress he seemed to be going through. From the way he blankly looked on, it seemed as if he were hardly believing a word. In fact, the parallel nature of the phone call with his dreams seemed only to be edging onto the levels of oddity.

Furthermore, he looked rather surprised and cornered when Toru pressed further. He tried to speak once, but merely folded into silence until Toru seemed finished. The level of upset the other held seemed to be worrying him, as he trailed into a sympathetic expression.

"Toru-kun, are you okay? I didn't hear anything from the phone. I mean, it's a fun attempt at a joke, but you don't have to put on such an act. Nothing's wrong. I just fell down the stairs a few times, and messed up at work. I'm pretty clumsy. Everything's fine. I mean, my brother's pretty overprotective, but he's a really nice guy. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just calm down, and forget about it."

"D-dammit, this... this isn't an act, Kazuya-kun!" He was now blushing furiously, face and voice indicating a thick and confusing swirl of emotions attempting to all come out at once. "I... just want you to be alright. And it... I don't know, this... this all seems like too much of a coincidence!"

All at once, Toru stood up and walked over to where Kazuya sat. Before the other boy could react, he held him in a tight embrace. A few moments passed like this, as the shade and breeze seemed to cool Toru's temper a bit.

"Please... understand. It hurts to see you in pain... a-and... maybe I assume the worst, but I just want the best for you."

Kaz received the hug amiably enough, closing one arm about Toru's back, while placing the other on his head. Gently, he began to comb through Toru's hair with his fingers, while making soothing sounds. "Heyy. Just calm down, okay? I'm just a clumsy person, and accidents happen a lot. I'll get better, don't worry. Things seem like a piling coincidence, some of the time. It's just a lot of events that have been happening around me. Just trust me on this. I can take care of myself, and I'm doing the best I can. You should be more concerned about you. Letting yourself get pushed around into holding open a door for so long."

Kaz finished the sentence in a playful tone, flicking Toru's cheek gently. "Can you promise me you won't do that again?"

Kazuya could doubtlessly feel Toru's heartbeat and breath, if he paid enough attention. Both were hastened by the flow of emotions. One might even observe that Toru's breathing was like that of one crying, or on the verge of tears. But that same person would find no tears near Toru's face, merely the flush of passionate emotions. It soon enough calmed, regardless.

"I... I will. I-I'm sorry, Kazuya-kun... It's... w-well, you know how I worry... heh." He hugged him a bit tighter, enjoying the feeling of someone (albeit with rough, cast-bound fingers) running his hands through his hair. Something he could get used to. "A-and I'll make sure not to get stuck like that again... th-that was pretty dumb of me."

Toru smiled softly as Kazuya flicked his cheek, then rubbed it in mock pain. "It's a promise." Something flickered through Toru's mind at that moment.

"O-oh, hey... are you going to come to the beach? There's a room for you to stay in, a-and everything's provided for you... I-I guess the only consideration would be that you'd, er... y-you'd have to ask your boss if you can take the time off for vacationing..."

Kazuya continued the steady rhythmic combing gesture, making sure to be as gentle as possible, and to soothe away the upset that had piled up in the one he hugged. He smiled softly through the moments that Toru spoke, nodding a pleased affirmative to Toru's promise. "Good. And.. I'm not sure. I can probably risk asking for a week off.. So, it's just up to what he says. Besides, I guess I have distanced myself a little too much, haven't I?"

He attempted a genuine smile, but failed at it around halfway through, slowing to a quiet emotionless plate. "Hey.. Can I ask you a favor?" His tone took a more serious edge with the question.

"Y-yeah... I hope you can get the time off. We... need to catch up." Toru calmly sat, embracing Kazuya back, and simply enjoyed the fact that he was be comforted. If only... He wished that the moment could last a lifetime.

But? A favor? He seemed serious about it, whatever it was. "S-sure, go ahead," Toru said, tone intent and (he hoped) mature. "I'd do any favor for you, Kazuya-kun."

He managed a quarter-genuine smile at that, dislocating from the main hug to look Toru directly in the eyes. "I have faith in you, since this is important to me." He tapped the nose of the other teasingly as a manner of affectionate praise.

"I need you to go to a store downtown, today, and pick up something for me. You don't need to do anything but say that you're me, and they'll know what it is and give it to you. It's a surprise, so don't open it. If you can give it to me personally, that'd be great. The Store's name is ********** ******, okay? Just approach the person at the counter. And remember: to not open the box when you get it. Whatever you do. Don't open the box. It's very important."

"I appreciate your faith in me, then." Toru smiled and blushed a bit, simultaneously charmed and embarrassed by the gesture.

Go to a store. Pick up a package. Give it to Kazuya. Don't open it. That sounded easy enough to him. Toru nodded. "Y-yeah, I can do that. I'll make sure to be very careful with it, too. I'm no Pandora. U-uh... b-but, when and where should I give it to you? Is there a time or place that would be most convenient for you?"

"Great." Kazuya's smile could have lit up a night sky, with all of its praise and glow. "Yes, in fact. I'll visit you tomorrow, for it. Oh, and don't let anyone else see it. You should hide it, if you can. It's a rather large box, so you're going to have to be careful. Don't let anyone at the school know about it but you. That's also very important. This has to be our secret, to keep everyone else safe."

"Things could get very dangerous if people find out about the box, or someone opens it. And it's better if we can avoid that incident entirely. I trust this'll happen without blip, with you on the job."

For the first time, Toru could see that Kazuya's smile was both genuine and wholehearted. He smiled in return, just happy to see his companion, lover, even, so happy. Then nodded.

"Alright. I'll take utmost care of it for you! It sounds... pretty important, yeah... A-and I'll put it where Kanaye-kun can't get to it." He nodded again, for emphasis. "I'm glad you can put your trust in me, Kazuya-kun."
