Who: ~everyone~
What: Waterpark!
Where: Waterpark!
When: Waterpark!
Why: Waterpark!

It was only 10am but Suzuki Suzume, big sister and/or energetic bane of everyone everywhere, had been up since 5. Which had, of course, likely been horrible for her roommate.

She'd sent out constant text messages since 7, with 'how to get there from pretty much anywhere in Iburi using public transport' instuctions, and arranged for Seiko to drive people who might have trouble with the train.  She'd been trying to barter the entry prices down since 8, since they were a big party, and managed to get at least a small discount. After which a 'hey, say you're with Suzusuzu-nee and you'll get in cheaper' message went out. And she'd been blowing up and tying balloons since 9.

And now it was 10. And the park was open. And she'd been doing stretches and encouraging those who were there early to do likewise (warm up those muscles! The water might be cold!).

And now it was time to reap the rewards of her efforts.

Kozue in a swimsuit.

Awesome.

"Well, I'm glad you're having fun. It's kind of weird, yeah, but you get used to it." Kanaye smiled.

"Really? That's a shame. The beach is quite amazing, or so I've heard. I've...never been to a beach myself, either, so it'll be a new experience for both of us!" He nodded. "Yeah, it'll be great. There will be watermelon, and swimming, and firework..."

...Whoops.

"It's nice. I guess it's what flying might be like. Only there's more water."

She was maybe kind of jealous still that Misaki got to fly and she didn't. This was kind of a second-best thing. (Her life as a whole was kind of a second-best thing.)

And oh. Suddenly, awkward! Maeko let her head go beneath the water once again, not blowing bubbles this time as she stuggled for something to say.

Blub blub "-really am sorry for that..." she said, starting to speak before she surfaced and getting a mouthful of water for it. "I didn't mean to-"

"Flying would be nice, yes."

Kanaye shook his head. "No, don't worry about it. I'm fine, really! I...just have something I want to ask you..." He took a deep breath and continued. "I know you want to figure things out, but...at the beach, can we...watch fireworks together? Just me and you?"

"I know, right? I kind of hoped I could back in Tom's place. But no."

"Um. Um-" And underwater. This was swiftly becoming Maeko's solution to every awkward situation. If felt comforting, as much so as the garden had, and familiar for a reason she wouldn't understand for months yet.

Her eyes emerged first. Confirming that Kanaye was indeed still there. The rest of her face followed quickly, mostly because she hadn't inhaled before going underwater.

It wasn't that she needed to think about it, really. She was okay with this. It was the least she owed him. And she probably liked fireworks. And it sounded kind of nice. It was just actually saying any of that that seemed problematic. Because saying things and not having them jumbled up somewhere between her brain and her mouth was difficult. And that was when she could even think anything other than stupid things.

The garden had helped her express something, though she still wasn't quite sure what she'd actually said there. And the water was helping. Even though she couldn't swim if felt safe.

"...Of course." She said, after far more introspection than that question really merited. "That sounds nice."

Kanaye smiled. "Thanks for giving me this chance, Maeko-chan. I really want to make up for it..."

Shaking his head, Kanaye gestured to the slide. "Shall we go have some fun on the slide, then? I like them, they're cool!"

"You've not really done anything to me that you have to make up for..." Maeko said.

Going on the slide seemed cool! But she wasn't quite sure how to get out of the pool now she'd moved away from the wall. In hindsight it had maybe been a bad idea.

"Um..." She patted at the pater uselessly.

Kanaye smiled and cocked his head to the side. "Is that a yes or a no, Maeko-chan?" He asked, curious. "Is something wrong? You afraid of heights? They're quite scary, I admit."

"No! The slide sounds fun! I just..." She trailed off, unable to communicate the fact that she was stuck.

Kanaye blinked. "You're what?" He swam after her, grabbed her lightly by the hand, and cocked his head to the side. "Something wrong, Maeko-chan? You can always tell me."

"I-" And hand grabbing. And any attempt at comminicating anything cut off by flustered sounds and bubble. And maybe it wouldn't be too bad to stay here after all.

She splashed uselessly with her free hand.

"...I don't know how to get back."

...Oh. Kanaye managed not to laugh. "Well, then, Maeko-chan, I'll be your rescuer for today." Kanaye smiled and led her to the wall. "And here's the wall. I'm glad to help, Maeko-chan!" Kanaye briefly got out of the water and looked at Maeko, smiling. "You need any help?"

"I don't need rescuing. I'd have meneged it myself eventually." She grumbled.

Maeko was hardly a portrait of gratefulness. Sulking all the way to the wall. She couldn't even say she could have done it herself because she'd just admitted that she couldn't.

And so she struggled and eventually managed to climb out of the pool rather than edging her way along the wall toward the ladder, just to prove that she could.

"I'm fine, see?"

"I see you most certainly proved me wrong, Maeko-chan!" Kanaye laughed and stood up, looking around. "Let's see, which slide should we go on first."

It was a tough decision, but Kanaye eventually pointed to the tallest ride in the park. "How about that one? Looks fun!"

"Of course I did." Maeko said, missing any sarcasm in that statment.

She slammed her fist into her palm. Yes! Revenge time! She would slide the hell out of it and there was nothing that stupid slide could do about it.

"Yes, that one!" She said, decidedly PUMPED NOW.

Kanaye blinked, but smiled and laughed anyway. It was nice, seeing Maeko so excited about something. "Alright, Maeko-chan! Let's get walking!" He turned and started to do so, but stopped and looked at Maeko. "Why? You like tall slides?"

Maeko set off, once again totally focussed on the top of the slide. No wussing out this time! No backing down! No wavering conviction! That slide was going to be slud and she was going to be the one to do it even though it was not the correct word.

"Not really. It's just a stupid slide. A jerk slide made out of jerks. I need to get revenge for before."

Kanaye nodded. "Ah. Jerk slides are very jerkish. What did the jerk slide do?" He asked, smiling. "Something jerky? Speaking of which, I like beef jerky. It's quite awesome, and not at all jerk-like." Kanaye laughed. He was enjoying this this way too much.

"It's a sneaky, lying slide. It doesn't look so high up from down here but then it gets way, way higher when you climb up it." Maeko grumbled. Stupid slide.

She didn't actually have any clue what beef jerky was. "Is that...beef made out of cows that got what they had coming to them or something?"

Kanaye chuckled. "Well, we'll show that slide, eh? I'm here for you." He smiled at her.

"No. I don't really know why it got that name. I guess some of them deserved it?" Kanaye shrugged.

"I don't need help." Maeko grumbled. "I had help before. It wasn't helpful at all. Really misleadingly named."

She seemed a little disappointed by her hypothesis on beef jerky being proven incorrect. She thought it sounded pretty cool.

"I'm sure one or two of them must have. Like a Gendoucow or something."

"Hmm? Really? What kind of help didn't help you?" Kanaye asked, curious.

Then he started laughing, laughing so hard he couldn't stand up straight. "Hey," he said between barks of laughter, "isn't he already a cow?"

Kanaye blinked and shrugged. "Well, we're here, so..." As they got in line, Kanaye looked up. "It is a rather tall slide, yes."

"Fair point. Instead, he just blusters around. Quite pointless, really."

"It gets taller when you climb it." Maeko lied, convinced that this must still be the case and she was not actually just misjudging heights. "It's sneaky."

"Yeah. Stupid Gendou. At least cows... go moo and stuff." Maeko had totally forgotten where she was going with that sentence mid-saying it.

"I'll take your word for it, Maeko-chan." He looked at the line. "Rather long line."

"Indeed. Cows are very useful for going moo." he deadpanned.
