Explosion of epic proportions that should have happened a long time ago.
Who: Misaki, her mother, Open
What: A confrontation that should have happened a while ago
Where: Park
When: After obon celebration on the third day.
Why: Pent up rage and also confrontation has been long over do.

Misaki made her way though the park with other people that were wandering back from the festivities. She thought of the party she had been dis-invited to, it figured. No matter what she did she couldn’t keep friends. It was just her luck in life right? Maybe she could find someone to hang out with, after all her sister was off drinking with her boyfriend and Tomoko was with a few friends of his riding some rides. It seemed like a good idea at the time to take her time going back to the dorms.

On her way though the park she stopped when she saw a familiar car honk at her, then started to speed up. She didn’t want to talk now, it was supposed to be a nice day, but the window rolled down and the driver shouted to her.

“Misaki stop walking this moment!”

She did so, reluctantly and the driver got out after parking the car. Her mother, dressed in a black suit, not the traditional yukata, indicting that they’d just gotten home from Tokyo, stepped out waving some papers at her and shouting. “What is this young lady.”

“What is what?” Misaki looked up at the older woman who scowled down at her daughter then shoved the papers under her nose. Misaki took them. The top was her grades, low Bs in most classes, a C in her math, and a F in science. Aiyako crossed her arms and sneered

“Well?”

Misaki looked at the grades, “They’re grades mother I know that I’m going down in points. I’ve been just…very busy recently.”

“With your friends right? Or with your boyfriend,” Aiyako scowled deeply and pulled out a picture of Keiichi and Misaki at the fire works. “Here see! Who is this boy Misaki.”

Misaki paused, “Um…I-Ito K-keiichi, he’s a second year and the head of the cooking club.”

“Well what is he doing with you out alone!”

Misaki gripped the papers, “We were just watching fireworks. That’s all. Is there something bad about that?”

“Bad,” huffed her mother with disgust, “Of course it’s bad. He’s the son of a teacher at your school Misaki. Not only are you spending time that you should be used studying but you’re playing hooky with this boy who clearly is a bad influ…”

“Keiichi-kun is not a bad influence,” Misaki spat back. “He’s kind and understanding. He loves me and cares about me. Just like I love and care about him. I don’t see how you can equate my going out with him as bad.”

Aiyako scowled deeply, “His father is a Pro Wrestler. What makes you think I want you to be seen with a Pro Wrestlers son? It’s un dignified. Not to mention you’re probably skipping science to go see him. Disgraceful Misaki.”

“I am not skipping that class to go and see him. I skip my science class because I hate that class. It's not fun for me, I just don't enjoy it. I've been trying to go back but every time it's something that just doesn't make sense to me. I saw enough science in action at your labs, you even told me that the science we learn in school isn't REAL sciene. So what am I suppose to do?.” Misaki spat back angrily. Her mother stared at her in shock.

“You go even if you hate it! I hated art history but I went every day because that's what you do to build up your role in socitey. You do what you hate, it's part of life, you just deal with it. You should be ashamed of acting like this Misaki. Do you think the world honestly cares about what you like and don't like? No, they don't. So stop being so smart mouth about it."

"Your teacher called and mentioned that you had been missing. You’re embarrassing me Misaki. The daughter of the lead chair of the Universities biology department, should not have her daughter miss out on that many classes. We can get you a tutor to help you catch up,” Her mother told her. “You are going to attend classes, or so help me I will drag you there myself and sit in the room to make sure you take them.”

“You wouldn't do that! You don't need to do that. You'll only make things worse!” Misaki shot back, “Science just isn’t for me. It’s not something I find fun or exciting. It’s dull and full of stuff that I don’t want to study about. Why do I need to know how the inner workings of a dog work if I’m not going to be a vet! Wasn't there classes that you didn't like to go to? I know skipping them is wrong, but isn't it better to just be out of a class then to be in one that you can't stand?”

“No, it's not. And yes there were classes I hated, but I went through with them because I understand the idea of being a responsible adult. Something that you clearly haven't mastered yet. Because it is important, young lady,” Her mother shouted back and glared at her. “You are being so selfish Misaki. By missing out on classes you're reflecting something to the heads of the departments where you are going to go to university. You are showing your teachers that your mother can't raise a proper young lady.”

“No I’m not! I can be very respoinsible. Who takes care of the twins. Who makes sure that there's dinner on the table. Me! You're always at work. Always careing about what some person in the states or England is doing, and trying to better them in your biology feild. For what? You're not evening paying attention to your kids! Do you even know what Dad's favorite show is? What about Hiraku's choice of music, what does Shizuika read, or how about Horoto's favorite magazine, or for that matter, what about Tomoko's Kendo meets. Have you been to one. No because you're always too busy with your career. I don't want to be like that. I want to have time for my family. ” Misaki shouted back and clenched her fists. “I like Keiichi-kun and I don’t like science. Get off your high horse will you! You always tell me that what I like is a waste of money. Going to this school would be a waste if I didn't get into a high paying job. Well I don't want a high paying job, not if it means turning into someone like you.”

Aiyako glared at her darkly as she narrowed her gaze and Misaki moved back, while still trying to stay her ground, “Well you are going to be going to class, and that’s fine. Because if you don’t get better grades I’m pulling you out of school, is that clear enough.” Her mother pinched Misaki’s face and she pulled away. Her eyes were full of anger as the older woman continued.

“Another thing too, I hear you are no longer seeing Akuba-Maeko?”

“That’s not your business,” Misaki turned to walk away and her mother pulled her back by her shoulder. “Let me go!”

“No! You are going to listen to me!” Aiyako shouted to her and held her back. “You are making a fool of yourself by not befriending that girl. She has high standings with the school, people respect her. I had hoped you would learn to be more like her. She's a LADY Misaki. She knows her place, knows how to behave. She doesn't go dying her hair to stand out! Standing out by looks is the weakest way to be. Individuality must be bought though knowing who to be friends with, and knowing when to loose them. You have to learn the ins and out of this world, and looking like you do, you won't. You're getting your hair cut and dyed black by the new year. ”

“I don't want to be like Maeko, I don't want my hair dyed black. I like it the color that it is. Why is it so bad to have hair this color. I picked it because it was something that made me happy."

"Being happy is over rated," her mother spat back and sniffed. "If Happy was somthing that could be measureed, then it would be worth something, but it's not. So stop worrying about such immature things."

Misaki glared at her, "It’s thanks to you that Maeko hates me now!” Misaki shouted back at her, “I told you back then that she saw my cuts and you told me not ever to tell her where I got them. That that was the best way to keep her a friend, so I did. I didn’t understand until a few years ago, WHY?! Why was it that you were so convinced to make it so that I couldn’t tell her the truth. You always do this to me.”

“I told you to not talk about the cuts because it was an embaressment. I do not want people knowing I have such a clumbsy child that can drop a vase and get her arms cut. What would my co-workers think? Don't you think of anyone but yourself Misaki. Honestly, after all I do for you, and I do not force you to anything. That's your own choices. I simply guide you as best I can, and you fail to honestly take my advice," Her mother shouted back and waved the last bit of papers, “You’re the one forcing my hands. Just look at these! Fashion schools? What are you thinking! This is no way to make a career Misaki.”

Misaki grabbed them from her mother and glared, “These…where did you get these. Were you going though my room again.”

“Yes, and it’s not your room, it’s my room. That house is My house. I pay for it, I work for it, it is not your house or your room. So I can go in there when I want and look through what I wish young lady.” Aiyako said with crossed arms. “And this is what I find. You disgust me. This is the worst thing, I thought I taught you better.”

Misaki growled and looked down, “She was right...I am a monster...I'm those damn birds.”

“Come again!” Her mother back some as Misaki shouted loudly.

“What I've been doing, how I've been treating people, this is partly your fault for the way you raised me. If you just cared, just a bit, took time to get to know me, to love me, maybe then I wouldn't be so selfish and want things from my friends. Maybe then I wouldn't try to look for the good in people because all you do is complain and whine about how bad people are and how bad they can be. You taught me to be so selfish at times! It’s your fault that I’m so passive aggressive that I keep apologizing to people and using things against them because no matter what I say I can’t get you to listen to me or even care about what I say. I lost my best friend, thanks to you. I try to make other feel happy when I'm misrable because then I don't have to focus on the fact that I don't have anything coming from you. You never act like you love me, you never act like you care. You only seem to care about yourself, how you look, I’m having trouble with school, Yes I'm not a good student. I try to be, I try to understand things, but not everyone is ment to follow what you want, and now you’re acting like some selfish bitch because I’m choosing fashion school over going to a univer…”

There was a sharp smack against Misaki’s cheek and she looked up at her mother.

“You…why did you…”

“Be silent and act your age, you’re embarrassing me.”

"That's a somewhat tasteless thing to say, Aoi-san, you're more than aware of my family's situation." Maeko said with forced calmness.

"The fashion school materials were my doing, not hers. Please forgive my intrusion into your business but I felt something like that would help to convince her to take a greater interest in looking into possibilities for further education. I thought you might appreciate if she was taking an active interest in these things rather than simply waiting for the future to come to her.

"It is the truth though, and yes I've heard a bit," Aiyako said simply and looked over the texts her face scowling.

"Who are all these people misaki? I don't know any of them."

"They're friends mother," Misaki said and held out her hand, "I would like my phone back."

"No this is part of your punishment," Aiyako said shaking her head. She looked at Maeko and paused, then smiled slowly, almost mockingly. "Your idea dear? Now why would a smart girl like you do something like that. Please don't lie about these things, it's rather disrespectful Maeko-san. We both known that you're not into such things, and this is clearly the work of my daugher."

Aiyako shook her head, "So what did Misaki give you to lie on her behalf? Hummm, appricate it? Hardly, this isn't the sort of field that my child should be in. It has no longevity, no real serious use other then entertainment. And her future is set for her, if only she would follow the plan that I laid out for her rather then being obsentent and not going into what I planned for her."

"Maeko was helping me out of the goodness of her heart. She didn't have to but she did, and I'm very glad to have had a friend like her to have helped me. I've been trying to follow up with calls. So don't you DARE call her a liar, if anything I'm the one that was lieing to her. I'm the one that didn't tell her the truth. To make it worse I followed your advice of, take what you want, the other person will just have to follow, and all I did was harm our friendship." Misaki looked down then up, "I told Dad, and I'm telling you right now, I don't want to go into Biochemistry, I don't want to be a surveyer, and I don't want to be connected to any other sort of things that you have planned. I just want to be me, isn't that okay?"

"No it's not, because the you you act like isn't the sort of person that this world needs Misaki." Aiyako snappped the phone shut.

"You've 'talked' to my father before, you should be well aware that calling him using a phone would present difficulties.

"As I said, I apologise for my intrusion into your business. And if you feel my judgement was poor then I also apologise for that. My personal belief was that any interest in further education was better than none. I'm not lying."

"You have that machine right, the TDD or TYY, don't you? If you don't I don't see why not. If you do you do call home then, don't you," Aiyako said. "Yes I've talked to him, he's an interesting fellow, though to be honest I mostly humor him. There's not much to talk to him about."

"I don't want your appolgy, you shouldn't have put your nose in in the first place. My daughter's future is one that I already have mapped out, and I will not have an upstart like you, putting silly notions in her head." Aiyako said in a cold tone. "Yes your judgement is poor, but then again I should not expect much with a girl in your situation."

She sighed, "Please, don't dig yourself in deeper. We both known that you're not so dumb as to actually want to help my daughter with her silly ideas. And fashion is not education, it is entertainment, and will do nothing in the end for Misaki. She needs to find a field that will aquire her a boon and have it where she is set montiarily. This is just plain idiotic and foolish. Anyone in fashion is just stuipd."

"The TDD isn't calling a person, it's calling a machine. And I live at home, calling there is hardly a priority."

"Yes, you've already made your position on that clear and I already admitted that I was in the wrong."

The terms 'not much to talk to him about' (how could that be ANYTHING other than a personal jab?) and 'dumb' had her furious but she was doing a good enough job of forcing it down and responding coolly.

Misaki grabbed Maeko by the shoulder, "Come on, lets just go. I'll deal with the phone later."

"I'm not through speaking with her Misaki," Aiyako said bluntly and added, "Well when you are away you called correct. I can see I've been wrong about you maeko, you're as bad as my daughter. Selfish and disrepecting. I should not have allowed Misaki to get involved with someone like you in the first place."

She sighed, "I should have known someone who has special needs like this would only have caused my daughter more trouble. It's like I told my husband, girls like you only live to gain sympathy from others because you can't get any...."

"Thats enough mother!" Misaki shot back and glared at Aiyako furiously.

"Misaki...don't you dare take that tone..."

"I will take whatever tone I like, and I will not have you bad mouth maeko! She's more of a woman then you will ever be. She's had a hard time in life and doesn't need your biased opinions making it harder! What do you want her to do, bend down on hand an knee and say that you're right or something. She doesn't need that sort of crap coming from you. She doesn't need me and she doesn't need people like you messing up her life." Misaki shot back.

Aiyako glared at them then said to Maeko, "See what you're doing you're pitting my daughter against me. You ungrateful child, both of you are. You're parents brought you into this world and you should have more respect."

"Why should I resepect someone who has no respect for anyone but herself!" Misaki shouted back shaking. "I blame you for so much, but I should be blaming myself. I should have seen the fact that I was acting like you, blame everything else but the one that has control over most of the situation. Me."

Misaki looked at Maeko, "I'm sorry for my mother's comments. I would suggest you leave now before she starts on about anything else."

It was then that there was a crunching noise and Misaki saw her mother stepping hard on her phone. She'd seen this once before with her game system when her mother was upset because she had shouted back and threw it out her bedroom window to teach her a lesson.

"I don't need you whining on my behalf, Aoi." Maeko growled. "And how dare you suggest that-"

Maeko didn't cry. Never. Right now she was clearly just so angry that her vision was blurring and the totally-not-tears were forced back though sheer determination before they fell.

"Because I can't get any what? There is nothing shameful in being my father's daughter. He dragged himself up from being homeless at fourteen to where he is now, working for less than minimum wage because of his deafness. He went from that to being so good that people had to hire him despite his condition and he did all of it himself on pure hard work and without anyone's pity. And if you can't understand the value of tenacity succeeding over adversity then you don't deserve to be in any feild that advocates progress, let alone education."

Aiyako huffed, "Well just shows you who your real friends are. Misaki....are you coming or what. How dare she even say that to me. You are not to see that girl..."

"Just shut up mother, she's right..." Misaki spat back and grabbed up the cracked phone. "She's right about you and about me okay. I did lie to her, even if I convinced myself it wasn't lieing I did lie. And you wonder why I can't talk to you, it's because you're a vile person. I still don't see how father could have ever wanted to marry you in the first place. First you insult someone who's older then me, now you insult someone who was my friend. Who next a teacher."

"Misaki, if you don't change that tone, do not come home tonight." Aiyako said.

"Fine I'll sleep in the park." Misaki shot back and went off to try to find Maeko to at at least applogize for what her mother had said.

Maeko didn't get very far with her storming off before she realized she'd stormed in the wrong direction. Home, and the opportunity to lie down and cling to Rumpelstiltskin and Joringel until things were fair again, was the opposite way.

She growled at the geoprahpy of the city not being convenient to her, turned around, and started storming back. Hopefully they were gone.

Misaki had been hurrying after Maeko in the crowds and soon spotted her looking for her way back towards the opposite direction. Grabbing hold of some cool drinks of water that were free, Misaki walked over to Maeko and held one out to her.

"Here...You look like you could use some water."

"No because there are a lot of people out here, and it's late out and people might think that a girl by herself could be an easy target," Misaki pointed out gently and walked with her.

"Akuba-san...Maeko...I...I never once saw you like that. I'm not like my mother, I don't see people like that. I hate that so much about her. She's blind to reality, and so am I." Misaki said softly, "but in different ways. I never want to see people the way she does. Ever. Becuase that's not right at all."

"No You wern't wrong at all. I was the one in the wrong." Misaki said moving in front of her for a moment. she looked at Maeko seriously.

"From day one of this friendship, I've been the one hiding things from you. I...I had chances to tell you the truth, but I never took them. I was the one that should have opened my mouth and all I did was blame other things. Every thing that I've done, I've done..." she closed her eyes and sighed some, "I've done becuase I thought I was doing it to make other people happy, or to make things right."

Misaki looked at Maeko and sighed, "but that wasn't true. I've been horribly selfish, not only to you, but to the others. I've been a covitus person, and those birds were the truth. I say I want people to be happy, but when they become happy I get jealous like a child and want to take that away so that they pay attention to me."

She looked down, "You had every right to be mad at me, you have every right to dislike me. And...and I get it now. I pushed you in this direction with my own self intrests, and you just tried to help me."

"Maeko, at the very least, allow me to make up for the things that my mother said. We don't share the same views. Like I told her, you're more of a woman then she will ever be, that's why I coveted you so much." Misaki bowed low to Maeko, "I...I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for causing you pain, and I want to applogized from the bottom of my heart, sincerely. I fully regret my actions, and under stand if we can't go back to being friends. But I do want you to know that I am sorry for everything that I did to you, and for what I did to senpai."
