Explosion of epic proportions that should have happened a long time ago.
Who: Misaki, her mother, Open
What: A confrontation that should have happened a while ago
Where: Park
When: After obon celebration on the third day.
Why: Pent up rage and also confrontation has been long over do.

Misaki made her way though the park with other people that were wandering back from the festivities. She thought of the party she had been dis-invited to, it figured. No matter what she did she couldn’t keep friends. It was just her luck in life right? Maybe she could find someone to hang out with, after all her sister was off drinking with her boyfriend and Tomoko was with a few friends of his riding some rides. It seemed like a good idea at the time to take her time going back to the dorms.

On her way though the park she stopped when she saw a familiar car honk at her, then started to speed up. She didn’t want to talk now, it was supposed to be a nice day, but the window rolled down and the driver shouted to her.

“Misaki stop walking this moment!”

She did so, reluctantly and the driver got out after parking the car. Her mother, dressed in a black suit, not the traditional yukata, indicting that they’d just gotten home from Tokyo, stepped out waving some papers at her and shouting. “What is this young lady.”

“What is what?” Misaki looked up at the older woman who scowled down at her daughter then shoved the papers under her nose. Misaki took them. The top was her grades, low Bs in most classes, a C in her math, and a F in science. Aiyako crossed her arms and sneered

“Well?”

Misaki looked at the grades, “They’re grades mother I know that I’m going down in points. I’ve been just…very busy recently.”

“With your friends right? Or with your boyfriend,” Aiyako scowled deeply and pulled out a picture of Keiichi and Misaki at the fire works. “Here see! Who is this boy Misaki.”

Misaki paused, “Um…I-Ito K-keiichi, he’s a second year and the head of the cooking club.”

“Well what is he doing with you out alone!”

Misaki gripped the papers, “We were just watching fireworks. That’s all. Is there something bad about that?”

“Bad,” huffed her mother with disgust, “Of course it’s bad. He’s the son of a teacher at your school Misaki. Not only are you spending time that you should be used studying but you’re playing hooky with this boy who clearly is a bad influ…”

“Keiichi-kun is not a bad influence,” Misaki spat back. “He’s kind and understanding. He loves me and cares about me. Just like I love and care about him. I don’t see how you can equate my going out with him as bad.”

Aiyako scowled deeply, “His father is a Pro Wrestler. What makes you think I want you to be seen with a Pro Wrestlers son? It’s un dignified. Not to mention you’re probably skipping science to go see him. Disgraceful Misaki.”

“I am not skipping that class to go and see him. I skip my science class because I hate that class. It's not fun for me, I just don't enjoy it. I've been trying to go back but every time it's something that just doesn't make sense to me. I saw enough science in action at your labs, you even told me that the science we learn in school isn't REAL sciene. So what am I suppose to do?.” Misaki spat back angrily. Her mother stared at her in shock.

“You go even if you hate it! I hated art history but I went every day because that's what you do to build up your role in socitey. You do what you hate, it's part of life, you just deal with it. You should be ashamed of acting like this Misaki. Do you think the world honestly cares about what you like and don't like? No, they don't. So stop being so smart mouth about it."

"Your teacher called and mentioned that you had been missing. You’re embarrassing me Misaki. The daughter of the lead chair of the Universities biology department, should not have her daughter miss out on that many classes. We can get you a tutor to help you catch up,” Her mother told her. “You are going to attend classes, or so help me I will drag you there myself and sit in the room to make sure you take them.”

“You wouldn't do that! You don't need to do that. You'll only make things worse!” Misaki shot back, “Science just isn’t for me. It’s not something I find fun or exciting. It’s dull and full of stuff that I don’t want to study about. Why do I need to know how the inner workings of a dog work if I’m not going to be a vet! Wasn't there classes that you didn't like to go to? I know skipping them is wrong, but isn't it better to just be out of a class then to be in one that you can't stand?”

“No, it's not. And yes there were classes I hated, but I went through with them because I understand the idea of being a responsible adult. Something that you clearly haven't mastered yet. Because it is important, young lady,” Her mother shouted back and glared at her. “You are being so selfish Misaki. By missing out on classes you're reflecting something to the heads of the departments where you are going to go to university. You are showing your teachers that your mother can't raise a proper young lady.”

“No I’m not! I can be very respoinsible. Who takes care of the twins. Who makes sure that there's dinner on the table. Me! You're always at work. Always careing about what some person in the states or England is doing, and trying to better them in your biology feild. For what? You're not evening paying attention to your kids! Do you even know what Dad's favorite show is? What about Hiraku's choice of music, what does Shizuika read, or how about Horoto's favorite magazine, or for that matter, what about Tomoko's Kendo meets. Have you been to one. No because you're always too busy with your career. I don't want to be like that. I want to have time for my family. ” Misaki shouted back and clenched her fists. “I like Keiichi-kun and I don’t like science. Get off your high horse will you! You always tell me that what I like is a waste of money. Going to this school would be a waste if I didn't get into a high paying job. Well I don't want a high paying job, not if it means turning into someone like you.”

Aiyako glared at her darkly as she narrowed her gaze and Misaki moved back, while still trying to stay her ground, “Well you are going to be going to class, and that’s fine. Because if you don’t get better grades I’m pulling you out of school, is that clear enough.” Her mother pinched Misaki’s face and she pulled away. Her eyes were full of anger as the older woman continued.

“Another thing too, I hear you are no longer seeing Akuba-Maeko?”

“That’s not your business,” Misaki turned to walk away and her mother pulled her back by her shoulder. “Let me go!”

“No! You are going to listen to me!” Aiyako shouted to her and held her back. “You are making a fool of yourself by not befriending that girl. She has high standings with the school, people respect her. I had hoped you would learn to be more like her. She's a LADY Misaki. She knows her place, knows how to behave. She doesn't go dying her hair to stand out! Standing out by looks is the weakest way to be. Individuality must be bought though knowing who to be friends with, and knowing when to loose them. You have to learn the ins and out of this world, and looking like you do, you won't. You're getting your hair cut and dyed black by the new year. ”

“I don't want to be like Maeko, I don't want my hair dyed black. I like it the color that it is. Why is it so bad to have hair this color. I picked it because it was something that made me happy."

"Being happy is over rated," her mother spat back and sniffed. "If Happy was somthing that could be measureed, then it would be worth something, but it's not. So stop worrying about such immature things."

Misaki glared at her, "It’s thanks to you that Maeko hates me now!” Misaki shouted back at her, “I told you back then that she saw my cuts and you told me not ever to tell her where I got them. That that was the best way to keep her a friend, so I did. I didn’t understand until a few years ago, WHY?! Why was it that you were so convinced to make it so that I couldn’t tell her the truth. You always do this to me.”

“I told you to not talk about the cuts because it was an embaressment. I do not want people knowing I have such a clumbsy child that can drop a vase and get her arms cut. What would my co-workers think? Don't you think of anyone but yourself Misaki. Honestly, after all I do for you, and I do not force you to anything. That's your own choices. I simply guide you as best I can, and you fail to honestly take my advice," Her mother shouted back and waved the last bit of papers, “You’re the one forcing my hands. Just look at these! Fashion schools? What are you thinking! This is no way to make a career Misaki.”

Misaki grabbed them from her mother and glared, “These…where did you get these. Were you going though my room again.”

“Yes, and it’s not your room, it’s my room. That house is My house. I pay for it, I work for it, it is not your house or your room. So I can go in there when I want and look through what I wish young lady.” Aiyako said with crossed arms. “And this is what I find. You disgust me. This is the worst thing, I thought I taught you better.”

Misaki growled and looked down, “She was right...I am a monster...I'm those damn birds.”

“Come again!” Her mother back some as Misaki shouted loudly.

“What I've been doing, how I've been treating people, this is partly your fault for the way you raised me. If you just cared, just a bit, took time to get to know me, to love me, maybe then I wouldn't be so selfish and want things from my friends. Maybe then I wouldn't try to look for the good in people because all you do is complain and whine about how bad people are and how bad they can be. You taught me to be so selfish at times! It’s your fault that I’m so passive aggressive that I keep apologizing to people and using things against them because no matter what I say I can’t get you to listen to me or even care about what I say. I lost my best friend, thanks to you. I try to make other feel happy when I'm misrable because then I don't have to focus on the fact that I don't have anything coming from you. You never act like you love me, you never act like you care. You only seem to care about yourself, how you look, I’m having trouble with school, Yes I'm not a good student. I try to be, I try to understand things, but not everyone is ment to follow what you want, and now you’re acting like some selfish bitch because I’m choosing fashion school over going to a univer…”

There was a sharp smack against Misaki’s cheek and she looked up at her mother.

“You…why did you…”

“Be silent and act your age, you’re embarrassing me.”

"I do deal with my own problems, I have been going to that class, it's not like I blame her for everthing, it's just...she never listens or wants to listen or cares." misaki spat back and looked away.

Aiyako crossed her arms and shrugged, "I don't expect her to have the same interests. Interests can be a good thing if they are useful and are not a waste of time or money. Being in a science club, or a music club that can be seen as useful. But in reality only one of those will fully be used as an adult. She needs to put away fantasy and face reality. She has a role to play, a role to undertake as an adult. I can't have my child live a life of poorness. I will not stand by and let her be an example of being underprivliaged while those around her lead privlaged lives."

She sniffed at him, "How I treat my daughter is my business. Her comments were disagreeable and she needed to learn to keep her mouth silent. It was wrong of me to hit her, but it was far worse of her to raise her voice to me. She knows that she's sixteen and temper tantrums will be met by disapline."

"The best thing you can do is to get money off what you love. And just forcing her to do something she most certainly does not want to do? That is just not right. I don't care about reality, forcing someone down a path is a stupid thing to do. People need to grow." Kanaye sighed. "Money does not buy privileged or happiness. I should know."

"She's my friend, so it's my business. I disagree and think that she should have argued her point. She did a poor job, but attacking her was not the answer. In fact, it would be better if you pointed out the flaws in her argument. Then, it'd just be up to her."

"A friend of yours? This is the first I've heard of it. Not that Misaki ever talks to me about much," her mother commented and Misaki crossed her arms.

"that's becuase you're never around to listen to me..."

"Misaki," her mother sighed, "Can't you see I'm talking to Mr. Satou right now. Could you please wait a moment." She shook her head, "you'll have to forgive my daughter. And loveing something doesn't mean that she's going to have money to feed herself or live. Privilages are something that is needed to show the world what you have worked for. By saying you shouldn't force down someone a path, you're saying that it's okay to choose something that will never work out for them. The real world is capitialist Mr. Satou. Art, fashion, is not going to earn her the money that she needs."

"i don't want money though mother I want to do something that I can do. Isn't that..." Misaki was cut off again.

"She has no right to argue a point that is silly. Being in fashion is like being in journalism. There is no point to it. Physics, law, other feilds that have real standing, quality standing, would be right for her. she has no arguement to give." Aiyako said and crossed her arms looking at Misaki.

"We need to go now."

"I'm not leaving."

"Why?"

"Because I'm not going with someone who can't understand that this is something that I want to do. Maeko helped me find those schools, I've sent out for pamphlets about them, and I've been trying to see what grades I would need to get in. Further more, it's something I'm good at. I timed myself sewing and I can sew very quickly. I don't see why you can't understand." Misaki explained.

"Because it's silly, and you're only going to hurt yourself and Me in the end. I'm sorry that you can't see the way I do, but really I guess it is my fault for raising you in this manner." Aiyako sighed.

"Mr. Satou?" Kanaye raised an eyebrow at that. "What's with the western honorifics? I may be a half but I'm still Japanese, same as you. And we're speaking Japanese, so..." He shrugged. "That is assuming it'll never work out. If she tries and fails, you can say "I told you so." But you if never try..." He shrugged. "You'd be surprised."

"No, it's both of your fault's for not talking about it."

"Yes it was western. Ah would you prefer I addressed you as San then?" She said and raised her eyebrow. "I know my daughters strenghts. They are limited to cooking and such. Which is partly why I wish she would just go into the cooking feild, find a nice chef to marry and get it over with. her fantasy of being a fashion designer is just that...a dream. Nothing more and nothing less. Supries don't exist Satou-san, they are cosmically impossible."

"I've tried, several times I've tried, but she won't sit down and talk to me," Misaki told him bluntly. "I've tried to talk about things, I've asked her over and over why it is that I loose my friends, what I'm doing wrong. She never has time, or when she does, she just berates the fact that i'm being friends that will not make anything of themself."

"Well maybe if you behave more like Akuba, I would want to talk to you. You need to learn to sit and not talk. Because a lot of what comes out of you is silly. I've told you time and time again, use your head, but you refuse Misaki. I swear that dye has gone to your head. Indviuality is not what's needed here, what's needed here is being part of something bigger. As I said, if you don't improve your grades I'm removing you to a different school."

She looked to Kanaye, "And as for you young man, I don't take it lightly when people that are my juniors start to lecure me on my parenting."

Kanaye nodded. "Yes, please. Even if my hair and eyes aren't the same, I'm Japanese, same as you." He shrugged. "Well, Keiichi is a chef, but I doubt that's what you mean. Dreams come true if you work for it. You can yell at her for wasting her laugh if she DOES waste her time." Kanaye found this funny. He laughed. "I dunno. I think if I yelled out my fantasies right now, it'd be a surprise. And you'd be amazed at what's possible."

"You kidding? Do you think Maeko-chan enjoys shutting up and not being able to talk? Do you think she enjoys being forced to work?" He yelled. "Maeko-chan is a human being, same as me or you. And she deserves the right to be happy and make her own choices. We all do."

"I don't take it lightly when people start slapping my friends around, even if it is their parents."

"It's all part of genetics, that can't be helped, your personality though can, and you're being a bit rash right now taking that tone with me." Aiyako said and moved towards him in her heels. "Again a fleeting fantasy, I would rather my daughter not be dating at all. It's a bother on her school work, and of all people, the son of a pro wrestler, phsssh, not something that I can see for my childs future. It's a waste of time for her to do fashion, dreams are for the weak and insecure." She shook her head, "You must have a very displeased family with your friviality."

"I think she shows a lot more class then my daughter ever could. She seems to be glad to do work for her family, she has a work edicit that my daughter has yet to learn. You can't always be happy. Happy just isn't reality. work, deication, social apperence, these are all the things that are important in life," Aiyako told him bluntly. "You have a right to follow the path that your family prepared for you. They worked hard for that path and if you reject it you are rubbing it in their faces."

"Then you should learn that that is the way we do things in this house hold. A Child must be disaplined when unruley." Aiyako told him as Misaki rubbed her cheek.

"I don't want to be like this...you're trying to turn me into you. I'm arguing like you, I'm being passive agreesive," she glared at Aiyako. "Is this what you want?"

"I would rather have a child that knows when to shut up and follow the rules of social structure then one that flits about willy nilly, and who doesn't mind her lessons or give respect and honor to the family that works so hard to make her life well off."

"Sorry, it's just a sore subject." Kanaye's voice made sure Aiyako realized it was a bit more then that. "Dreams are for the strong, and those that know what they want. If you don't have dreams, there's no reason for existence. You simply keep going, day after day, doing the daily grind..." He shook his head. "Oh, you can say that again."

"Maeko-chan is a hard worker, but trust me. She is not happy. You can't always be happy, yes, but if you're never happy, then you stop working correctly. Who cares what you look like to other people? If you think about everything they'll say you'll never get anything done, too worried about what the neighbors will thing." He scoffed. "Too bad for them, then! I'm a human being. I can make my own choices."

"Do I look like I care what you do in your household? No wonder she..." Kanaye shook his head. "Do you know how Misaki sees you? You're a monster to her. You're never pleased, no matter what she does. You are a pathetic human being, too worried about your own happiness and fortune then that of others'."

"A sore subject, Maybe my oldest daughter can give you a consultation on it," Aiyako said as Misaki muttered.

"Don't let her, she'll just tell you that no matter what you do your parents are always right and you're always wrong, that's the way Horoko thinks."

Aiyako ignored her daughters comments and added, "Dreams are nothing more then visions that your mind makes up. They have nothing to do with what your reality is. You can claim all dreams are a good thing but they are not. They only put impossible ideals in your mind, ideals that you can't live up to, and then you fail, and failure is not an option." She crossed her arms, "You should be thankful for the daily grind, without it we would only have fools and lazy heads running this country, like the idiots to the west. Do you see the way they run their govement, nearly into the ground. I will not have my child do that."

"As I said being happy is over rated," Aiyako continued. "Just saying your happy doesn't mean anything. It's a chemical reaction, and when it's gone it leaves you with nothing. Socitey is the key to what we are, if we're not judged by other people then how do we know what is right and wrong. You have to be what others want you to be to make it in this world, Satou-san. Well the neighobors are the ones that you have to keep up with and vice versa. If you can't be like them then you will be seen as indiviual, and that's not what we are. We are a socitey of people that are of one goal. Saying that we should be different is foolish."

"You should care, you should care about how you reflect upon your family. You were born to follow after your parents. Why do you think they had you? True they had you out of love, but that's not it. Human kind spawn to keep their history alive, to show that we were here. I want my daughter to understand that, that rules are here to be followed, that you can't live life changing and that things that are not broken should not be compromised. She doesn't seem to get that, and neither do you. No wonder you two are friends." Aiyako said and Misaki growled.

"I don't care how my daughter sees me, she is my heir, and my future. She should know her place. I mapped out her siblings futures, and they all followed them, so she should too. Simple as that."

"He's right..." misaki said softly, "Is it any wonder that I cause such fighing with Maeko-chan. I play games with her because I learned that from you. I have to fix what I messed up with her because you used to tell me it was okay not to care what other people thought, just so long as it made you look good. just so long as I didn't fall out of the idea of being okay with people."

"And you failed at that too, it seems. My daughter...is...inevitibly a failure." Aiyako said and snapped her fingers at Misaki. "Come along now, you can play with the boy later Misaki."

Kanaye just sighed. "My parents don't care about me. I don't care about them. Simple as that."

He turned and walked away. "Sorry for doubting you, Misaki-san."

"That is a shame, you should care about them. I mean you are their future," again Aiyako intoned in her casual manner. Clearly she was unimpressed by his arguments. "Misaki are you coming."

"No," She said softly and looked at Kanaye, "I'm staying with my friend."

"Is that so," she pulled out her phone and looked at it. "Then I'll be taking your phone privlages away. Hand it over."

"What...No you can't, I need that phone!" Misaki shouted and held the phone tightly as her mother moved closer. "It's part of the club."

"When you can show responsiblity you can have it back, now give it here," her mother insisted.
