Entry tags:kanaye, maeko

Who: Maeko, Kanaye
What: Book
Where: Library
When: After Journal entry
Why: Maeko wants to read her book and Kanaye is willing to help out?

Maeko had hurriedly changed before arriving. Waste of time or no, the large costume get hellish to wear in the middle of summer.

She'd be lying if she said she wasn't nervous about speaking to Kanaye face to face again. After how he'd spoken about Shiori he could easily (and maybe could not be blamed for, really) could be just as hostile toward her. More so, maybe. All Shiroi had done was go in silence, after all. She had not really been thinking of Toru's privacy at all when she suggested not speaking at the dorms. The library was a public place and would be safer.

And so she'd picked a table, again making she it wasn't too far out fo sight, set down her notebook and large english-Japanese dictionary and the copy of Grimm's fairy tales she'd bought from the second hand bookstore. And then she'd waited, tryingto skim through some of the shorter stories.

Kanaye just stood there. He really had no idea what to do. Was he supposed to hug her? Just stand there? Kanaye deciding just to look at his feet, raising his head only when she started talking.

"I know it's dumb. And I know you're angry at me. But..." Kanaye smiled at her. "I still love you. You don't have to love me back. I'm fine with just helping you as a friend."

Kanaye cocked his head to the side. "It doesn't mean you don't...what?"

Maeko was honestly more bewildered (and exhausted, it was difficult being angry whn other people didn't cooperate) than calmed. The difference between the two was only visible in her posture, though, he shoulders were still raised and her fists still clenched.

She listenned semi-calmly, looked a little taken aback for a second and then apparently summonned up what of her anger remained.

"It doesn't mean I don't nothing."

Kanaye laughed. "I don't nothing either, Maeko-san! It's quite fun. I'm glad we have something in common!"

He smiled at her. "You're really great, Maeko-san. I'm glad we had this talk, I really am. If you want to talk to anybody about anything at all, I'm always here."

"So what does it mean you don't do? Don't worry about offending me, Maeko-san."

hgrubpfgb. He was laughing again.

"I said it doesn't mean I don't nothing. And if I wanted to talk to you I'd do it whether you were here or not." She snapped, ignoring how much that statement made no sense.

"It's not that important. Cut it out."

Kanaye sighed. "If you insist, Maeko-san. That doesn't make any sense, though. It's not really in my personality to pry, though. If you want to talk, I'm willing to listen."

He smiled at her. "If it wasn't important you wouldn't have said it."

"It makes sense! Because it makes sense." There was a reason Maeko argued with people mainly over journals. The backspace key was so useful.

"You say unimportant stuff all the time!"

Kanaye just sighed. "Of course it makes sense, Maeko-san." He admitted in defeat.

"I can't argue with that." He said as he hugged her again. Maybe it would work this time. "Have I ever told you how much I love you?"

Was it random? Yes. Did he care? Not really.

Maeko's escape attempt was less violent this time, at least, something a lot more like wiggling free. "About seven times in the last five minutes. Quit doing that, we're not dating anymore."

She had, at least, dropped the agressive posture.

Progress! "Odd. I swear I only hugged you once..." Kanaye rubbed his chin and laughed. "Well, I guess I'm an idiot and just forgot!"

"Yeah, but you looked like you needed a hug. You need someone, at least. And I want to help, even if it was just as a friend. I'm seriously sorry about the hug, but...can we at least be friends?" Kanaye's voice was serious.

"...if we must. It's not like my standards for friends are particularly high."

She sighed, playing with her bracelets. "Sorry for freaking out at you there."

Kanaye had managed to stop himself from jumping in joy and hugging her. Instead, he just smiled at her. "Thanks, Maeko-san!"

He shook his head. "No worries. Are you sure you want to give up on that book? I could still help you with that!"

Maeko shook her head.

"Thank you but I think I'll be fine. It probably was just coincidence."

"Alright, Maeko-san. You wanna go do something, or do you want to be alone for a bit?" Kanaye asked with a smile, still rather excited.

"Either's fine, I need to pick up stuff from the convenience store before I go home, though." Maeko said, shrugging.

"Alright, let's go. I need to pick some stuff up myself." He started walking, resisting the urge to skip.

"Okay!"

It was strange, walking around with Kanaye again. And having it just being walking around. It wasn't much longer than an month since...

...well, since a lot of things that had happenned in that month. they had complicated lives.

"Is Ishinomori-san okay?" She asked, trying to make small-talk. "I heard a rumour a while ago that he'd got into a fight."
