Who: Kiriko, Tom, Maeko
What: Reconvening
Where: The butterfly room
When: The day after Renju's dungeon
Why: The culprit is close at hand

The hand-butlers were more empathetic than she'd anticipated - apparently she'd entered looking worse for the wear, so they'd gone immediately for her hugdoll, which was halfway between flattering and embarassing. She'd arrived at the meetspot early and since had time to relax with a hot drink - hot drinks were suddenly more appealing than they had been before her trip into that desolate, hellish place. But now was not the time to dwell on such things, or the terrible nightmares that followed involving her fingernails freezing right off - Maeko and Tom would arrive soon.

She blacked the name out on Kanaye's homework writing and laid it out on the table next to the notes, waiting. The whole affair seemed a little more trivial in the face of the previous day's events, but it was certainly a nice distraction. There was always the possibility that it wasn't Kanaye who was the sender, however... or that Maeko would refuse to believe.

The door cracked open. Kiriko supposed it was time to find out.

Maeko was still eerily calm, wearing long, loose clothing and with her hair untied and covering her face. It was not a particularly flattering look.

The hands scuttled over to thier creator? mother? self?...something when she entered but she ignored them, moving toward Kiriko.

"...here." She said. Her voice had clearly not seen use since they left the dungeon.

Tom arrived, also looking worse for wear. Even having spent most of the day lying in bed while Max fawned over him, he still felt feverish. And he still looked pale, but he was there.

He nodded to both women.

"Sorry for doing this, but I'm not going to sit at the table, since I may be really contagious."

Kiriko looked from Maeko to Tom. Wow, they looked almost as bad as she felt. The thought made her feel a little better.

She nodded curtly to Tom and waved Maeko over to the table.

"I meant to thank you properly for yesterday, Akuba-san." Her voice didn't betray her tentativeness. Frankly it was somewhat awkward to return to a regular relationship with a person you clutched to for dear life not 24 hours ago, but any more discussion would probably just wind up awkward and painful.

"Anyway, here. We collected writing samples, and this is the closest fit. Tell me what you think of it."

"...it's fine." Maeko said, nodding. Oh yeah. That.

This whole thing shouldn't mean so much in comparison to the real danger over there. But it did. And she took the papers far too eagarly.

She looked between similarly structured words, mintally comparing the writing to her own for a point of reference.

"...it seems close enough, I think."

Kiriko nodded. Blows against enemies were usually something to be savoured and she felt particularly unempathetic towards Kanaye, what with him having apparently abandoned everyone the day before, but she hesitated nonetheless. Creating more trouble for Maeko wasn't particularly what she wanted. Now that she bothered to think about it, the older girl had barely had any time to rest in the past few months.

She forced her eyes to her teammate's. Best to get it done, and clinically.

"That's Satou's writing sample. Have you spoken to him about this at all?"

Maeko didn't seem is surprised as she should be. She didn't feel as surprised as she should. It was...

"We spoke about the incident as a whole. He didn't seem...I suppose my judgement's unreliable here. It could just be a coincidence."

She was grasping at about 5 different straws here.

Tom blinked and tried not to let his coughing ruin the moment.

"You two talked? May I ask what he said on the matter?"

"He suggested I ask Ito-san to help me take care of her. We didn't really discuss it at length so... It was over text messages so I couldn't really say what his reaction was. Sorry."

She fidgetted.

"So do you think he really...?"

Kiriko frowned. With the faintest of shrugs, she cocked her head to one side.

"I don't know. It seems likely, given all we know. Chances are he did. Do you have any idea how we should confront him about it?"

"I'll-" She paused, biting her lip for a second. "-give it a few days. Once things have calmed down I'll"

She cut off apruptly, ending the sentence by nodding after a few seconds.
