Entry tags:maeko, misaki

Who: Maeko, Misaki
What: Talking, protecting, watching the fireworks from windows.
Where: Tenth floor of an appartment block opposite the skypark.
When: After letters.
Why: Because Maeko is crazy and paranoid.

Maeko hadn't been lying when she'd said the appartment where she'd lived with her mother and father was small. There really wasn't room for three people.

Misaki had been intructed by both Maeko (in hushed voice) and Michio (in sign that seemed much louder by comparison despite its silence) to sit down and read or something and be quiet while Maeko was at work. She'd been left in Maeko's room.

And it was a very good job that she wasn't claustrophobic.

The room was very pink, with wallpaper involving the misadventures of white cartoon rabbits with balloons and glow-in-the-dark plastic stars on the ceiling. It was almost the exact size of the single futon that was right now kept in the small wardrobe at the far end. A desk and chair of sorts were just in front of the wardrobe, two sheets of wood surface hinged to the wall that could be folded up and down. There were no windows because there were no outside-facing walls. Rumpelstiltskin had been left in the doorway, sat on top of a few books.

And it was completely silent.

Maeko was due back in a few minutes.

Misaki was, oddly used to the idea of silence. When she had come to the apartment building she had been suprised by the size of it and the fact that they had to go way up to the tenth floor. She nodded her head when she met with Michio and bowed some then went up into the room. The reason that it wasn't so odd to her was that the pink haired girl was so used to the idea of not commuicating with her family all that much save for the occasional conversations with her sisters and brothers. Mostly, when she used to go home after school, Misa would find her father at work in the study listening to music in his room. She would shut the door, turn on the TV and start working on cleaning the house, which usually didn't need so much cleaning.

Being in Maeko's home made her feel oddly out of pace, but actually cozier then her own home. There was a static tension in the air, but one that wasn't perferated by cold, indifferent feelings. See the difference was that Maeko's house looked lived in. There was signs that people resided there. Misaki's house, not so much. So she was actually comfortable being in there where there were living, breathing people, who, dispite the silence, at least commuicated in some form with one another.

The room it self was small, but Misaki liked the wall paper, for obvious reasons. She pulled out her earphones after a bit, kept the music down to the point of maybe the buzzing of a fly, and listened to some songs as she sat in Maeko's chair going over some of the drawings she made. She partly wondered if she could ask the older girl could they put some flowers in the room to brighten it some.

She was dutiful in her waiting and sat there wondering if, late at night, Maeko thought of things on the outside. Compared to the white walls of her old room, the fact that her mother opposed any wall paper, color variations, or decorations that did not fit the bill of mathmatical perfection, ie: the idea of using any wall paper with characters on it, patters, or decorations, would have upset her as, if they did not match up, Aikio would insist on it being stripped and replaced with a solid white color. The fact that there were things like the stars and the paper made her feel welcome in the room.

Maeko finally made it up the stairs (even if it was ten storeys there was no way she was taking the elevator.

She entered in silence, stopping to speak to her father about the ice cream mochi she'd brought home with her and to take it to the kitchen and then entered her own room just as quietly.

She held out a notebook to Misaki. On the top line was 'Anything happen while I was gone?'

Misaki stared at it and blinked. She glanced at maeko and took the pad of paper she quickly wrote down.

'So no talking even in here huh. Okay, I designed some outfit. I like your room, it's a lot better then mine. How is your dad? Does he not like me? Oh and what are we doing this evening?'

She also drew a fast Sketch of Maeko wearing th bunny outfit that was on the walls.

Maeko leaned against the wall to write. Her writing was quick and clear, if incredibly small.

'No.
Thank you. You can stay in here, I'll put the spare futon out in the living room.
As always.
No.
Summer homework.

It's very nice, thank you.

Did you check your messages?'

Misaki looked at the answers and looked confused and quickly wrote in her own quick stroked hand.

'Oh I see.
Your welcome. No this is your room, I can sleep out in the living room.
So is he okay, or not okay, or...?
Wait he dosen't like me being here? Did I do something wrong?
Um...do you think we can take a walk and maybe hang out together outside after homework?
Can I cook for you guys for dinner at least?'

Misaki pulled out her phone to check her messages, then wrote quickly.

'Hikaru-niisan wants you to know that if I cause any issues to send me to him.
Tomako says that I'm being overly paranoid about nothing and that it's dumb for me to put you in this postion.
Mom wrote to not embaress her.'

No.

Misaki nodded slowly and let out a sigh. She made a mental note at some point to take Maeko to stay over by the flower shop. At least there they could talk and maybe Maeko could relax some.

'Alright. I understand that.
That's good to know then.
Can I ask why that is? Because we talk?
Maybe you could teach me to talk to him? Less work for you then?
I feel like I should at least thank him for letting me stay here in some way?

No threats, but I still want to know where they came from. Did Kiriko tell you about the ones that were written in pen? Do you think it was two different people?'

'Because he doesn't like people. Keep your nose out of our business.
No. It'd take years for you to learn and you're only here a few days.
No.

Whoever it is I'll crush them for you. Don't worry about it.'

Misaki took the paper and looked at it then Maeko then back at the paper and wrote.

'I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be a bother.
So how do I talk to him? Or am I going to stay in the room?'

She sighed then wrote fast,

'I want to take you out somewhere. Just for a while.
What about the fireworks?'

'You don't. He doesn't want to talk to you. Just stay in here. Read or do your summer homework or whatever.

We're not leaving. If you want to see the fireworks you can watch them from the hall window outside once they start.'

Misaki drew in a few breaths. Her mind was racing back to the shadow, what if Maeko had been the one to send the letters. But then...no why would she do that that was stupid to think.

'Maeko-chan, please calm down. I'm not trying to cause trouble. Maybe I should go by Shojiro-sensei if this is trouble. Or stay with Kiriko-chan and Kozue-chan. I just don't want to cause you trouble.

Will you watch them with me?'

Misaki looked concerned as she wrote.

'Doesn't he take time off? I can see probably why my mom liked him when she meets him at the Parent techers meetings. They are alike in that manner. She doesn't like to take breaks, even when we're supposed to be.

Dad takes his lunch and dinner sometimes into his study. Doesn't your dad at all like spending time with his family? When are you going to go to the meeting? Does your mom do this too?

Who normally cooks?'

She paused to ask. 'Well the fire works are loud, won't they drown out our voices if we talk too quietly?'

'No. He says he has nothing to do if he takes time off.

His family isn't really that great. The meeting's in a few days. I'll just be for a couple of hours, I'll check my messages as often as I can so let me know if anything at all happens. Yes.

Mother sometimes cooks when we eat as a family on special occasions. Usually whoever's hungry just makes food for themselves.

They're behind a window, it'll mute them a little.'

Misaki looked confused and wrote quickly.

'But how can it not be great with you as part of it? So what do you want me to do in that time?'

Misaki stared at the paper and quickly wrote, 'Then you and I should make a deal to have dinner together as friends in the evening. What counts as special ocassions?

Isn't there a window in the hall by the stairs? That way we can open it up to get some air?'

She blinked and wrote, 'You mean you don't just sit and have dinner and talk about your days?

Does your family ever just go out to dinner? Or do you and your mom at least?'

'Is it really taking a risk to be out of a room? I wouldn't be leaving the apartment.

Well I mean, it's a way for them to know what you did in class or talk about something funny you may have seen, or done. It's a way to communicate with your parents.'

Misaki thought a moment then wrote,

'What do you and your mom talk about?'

'Yes. If it is a real threat they might know you can use paradise to get through locked doors.

If I had something of importance to tell them I could just tell them. There's no need to waste time with a meal over something like that.

Why would it be wasting time though? I mean, if your family is busy all day, wouldn't you like to spend a few moments when it's just you guys?

You don't talk about like, books, or things that happened. Like mom and daughter talk? Not that I know about that, my mom only wants to talk about science.'

'Well the only reason I thought that it might be them was because of mentioning knowing all about me, and the shadows and just the over all fact that they ' she quickly erased 'wrote I should slit my wrists' and instead wrote 'knew things about me that I didn't think many people knew. That's why I thought that. But now I'm wondering if it was all just a bad hoax. Someone trying to scare me.'

She wasn't sure what to say to the rest of it. It would be rude to be like 'Maeko that's not a normal relationship.' but who was she to judge. she instead asked.

'So you guys don't talk very much at all? Did you tell her about Satou-sempai?'
