Who: Kiriko & Kozue
What: Talking.
Where: Dorms.
When: Tom Dungeon Midboss Break.
Why: I hate this question!

She'd been deliberating since before they even made it home, but hadn't decided whether or not to say anything until it was just about time to put the lights out. It was probably unfair to bring it up now - Kozue was probably as tired as she was from their little adventure, but she felt like it had to be said, all the same. She closed her laptop, noting that her nailpolish was already chipped, and decided to frown down at her hands with the full force of her disapproval while she spoke.

"Hey, do you remember what I asked back in the dungeon..? About... if people want to show their pasts like that?"

Her nails were ceasing to be interesting. She tried looking at imperfections on the wall, instead.

"... I think... maybe... some part of me wanted to show you guys what you saw. I think... maybe that's how it is for everyone who has been stuck in there."

Kozue had been at her vanity mirror, in the process of putting up her hair and getting ready for bed. At the moment, her hair was half-braided, and the scrunchy to hold it in place was around her wrist. Notably, she hadn't taken out her contacts, yet, either. When Kiriko spoke, she stopped in her braiding effort and turned around.

It took her a moment to process what her friend was saying.

"I do remember," she finally responded, "and… well, it makes sense that if people who go in there have, you know, sort of separate parts. Like, the Other? Part of them might want us to see it, while part of them might be angry, like ShadowKnight was." It was easier to identify the Shadow at the heart of Tom's dungeon with a villain than to call it the other Tom, Kozue realized.

Kiriko's own hair was already tied back into a messy bun, which meant she was only able to run her fingers half through when she lifted her hand to do so.

"I... I guess."

It made sense for her, certainly. Showing it through Paradise was guilt-free. She could ask for help without relinquishing being too stubborn to ask. And, at the end of the day, everyone had come through for her in their own way, hadn't they?

"But why do you think that is? What do they want from us? Personally I don't really like it when people get into my business, but for other people..."

"Why? I don't know, what did Misaki-san want, when she showed us all of that stuff? What does Sagaki-senpai want? Maybe for us to understand him better, or see why he's so… well, the way he is. I think everyone understands more about him now, don't they?" She contemplated adding something to that, but she was nervous that somehow it'd get around to people understand more about being half, and that was a place she felt distinctly afraid of treading.

"I don't really know about Misaki-san, though." She continued braiding; Kiriko had answered it for herself already, so there wasn't any need to go there. Right?

"It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense that a guy like Sagaki would want us to know more about him, though." She flipped her laptop back open, feeling a little less tense. Scrolling through gossip assisted with relaxation, naturally.

"She said she didn't really know who she was. Maybe she wanted us to help her figure it out. I don't know. But, thinking about that kind of thing, along with what that weird voice in the Butterfly room told us..."

"I thought everybody wanted something like that, deep down. That's how it works in movies." Kozue turned back to the mirror and leaned inwards, carefully extracting one brown contact lens, and then the second one. She blinked a few times, clearing her eyes.

"What the voice said … about being bonded to one another, or the strength of how we feel? That making us stronger? Do you think it's got something to do with the butterfly?"

Again, a nice, convenient placeholder name for something Kozue had trouble wrapping her mind around.

She decided not to respond to the movies comment: that was just Kozue being Kozue.

"I don't really know, one way or the other."

She watched the mirror as Kozue removed her contacts, wondering if anyone had ever accused her of having fish eyes and then trying to evaluate the truth of the claim. They just looked clear and maybe a bit cold to her, but certainly not like something belonging to any animal she'd ever eaten.

"Don't you think seeing people's pasts, or -- if I'm on to something -- having them show it to us - that has to make us closer, doesn't it? Is that why we've been getting stronger every time we go into Paradise?"

Either catching sight of Kiriko in the mirror, or slightly aware of being watched in that subconscious way, Kozue turned around. She'd finished getting ready for bed, anyway. She looked down at the floor; at the moment, she was more conscious about her eyes than she'd been for a long time. Her grandmother wasn't even here, and nobody had given her trouble about them in years… (Probably because she hid them for the most part, but the fact still stood.)

But hearing what the children in that memory had said had a sour feeling to the forefront of her mind, and it refused to go away.

"That's…" she trailed off, thinking. "That's a really good point. Because we're learning more about each other and— do you think maybe because we're helping each other, we get closer? Or we're closer, so we help each other." She stopped. Another idiotic idea had occurred to her.

"Is this supposed to mean that if we had a giant game of truth or dare we'd all become really super stronger? That seems kind of…" A frown. More or less uncomfortable than sitting through someone's worst memories, when at least they weren't there? She wasn't sure.
