Entry tags:kozue, maeko

Who: Maeko, Kozue
What: MORE CONCERN FOR MIDGETS
Where: School
When: After school, after confirmation of Tomshadow.
Why: Because I was asked! Also Maeko is apparently amassing tiny people for some reason (possibly to put them all in a car? idk)!

Maeko had no idea why she'd apparently taken it upon herself to attempt to do damage control after Tom's (Tom's shadow, she corrected herself. It was important to accept the difference) outburst. She'd decided that it was because she owed him this much, Tom had saved Misaki when her own shadow had locked her away. The least she could do was make sure his shadow didn't do too much damage to people he might potentially (well, maybe. Maeko was still having difficulty accepting that Tom was not a robot) care about.

AND she'd heard there was a dog. She maybe, possibly wanted to see the dog.

She knew when clubs met. So she'd planned to head to the tennis club in an hour's time, not aware of Kozue's less-than-stellar attendance. It was probably a great stroke of luck that she'd run into her in the hallway first while looking for somewhere other than the library to work on homework while she waited.

"Oh, Kondo-san. I was looking for you. Do you have time?"

Indeed, Kozue was just on her way to somewhere to hide out for the duration of Tennis Practice. Butterfly Room was one plan, but she wanted to get back to the room to check on Max. (All day long, she'd been worrying about if he would have enough food, or if he would make a mess in the room or eat one of her shoes or something else horrible.) She'd been contemplating how to get out of school unnoticed by any of her teammates—maybe she could hide out in the Butterfly Room or in a more mundane location like a bathroom stall.

She was in the hallway, looking distracted, when she heard Maeko's voice. She looked up. "Oh! Akuba-senpai, hello. Sure, I've got nothing going on. What's up?"

If she was with someone on Student Council and she ran into another Tennis Member, she could always claim she was on some kind of important business. Even if it hardly made sense, they'd have to accept it, wouldn't they?

"It's nothing huge, I thought I should check on you. Are you doing okay after all that?" Maeko asked. "Most of the rumours I've heard about it havn't cast you in such a bad light but..."

It was mostly true, the crying might have been humiliating but it had certainly made Tom seem very much the villain of all the stories she'd heard about it.

"Oh, thanks. It's been kind of awkward, but not all that bad." Kiriko had done a pretty good job of rumor control at the party itself, so by the time Kozue got to school, most of what she'd had to deal with was hearing the odd version of the story second- or third-hand and a few people asking if it was really true that she'd turned Sagaki Thomas down and he'd flipped a shit on her at the party. (A few people had, apparently, heard versions distorted enough to ask if she'd hooked up with Sagaki at the party, and that had probably been the most awkward, if the easiest to quash immediately.)

"Mostly people have just been asking what happened." She frowned. "And whether or not I slept with him, so, you know..." She shrugged, her expression making it clear that these questions were rather unwelcome.

Maeko still wasn't entirely sure what had happenned herself. Her awareness of the situation was almost entirely stitched together from the most plausible-sounding parts of what she'd heard people discussing at the party. Kozue's expression did an excellent job of keeping her from asking for confirmation.

"That's a relief. We don't want those things causing more trouble than they already do." She paused, thinking. "You mentionned a dog. Assuming that's related to the Sagaki situation, is it okay?"

"Yeah." She nodded; her expression was still a bit reticent and a bit upset, but it was improving as she resolved not to think about it. Because thinking about it would just mean dwelling on it even more.

"Oh. Sagaki-senpai's… Hey, yeah," she looked around, suddenly realizing she was having this conversation in public. And it was supposed to be a secret dog. "I can tell you," she continued, looking around and dropping her voice, "but not here."

Oh, way to be suspicious, Kondo.

"Oh," Maeko said, not sure how to respond to that. But now she was curious. "Sure, we could go somewhere else. I'm not keepng you from practice, am I?"

"Oh, I was, I had a note from the… y'know. I wasn't intending to go." She looked down and shrugged. God, but she was a terrible liar when it came to things like this; hopefully Maeko wouldn't judge her too much for it.

"I can show you back at the dorms, in fact, if you're heading back there now?"

"Oh, okay." Maeko nodded. She might have judged her more if she were aware this wasn't a one-off. Right now she'd assumed that this was just because of recent events. "I guess it's a good job I ran into you now instead of trying to find you after."

She nodded again. "Yeah, I don't have work until later tonight so I was going to head back oce I was done here."

"Alright. Let's walk back together, and I'll show you the. Y'know. Thing that I mentioned on my journal." She nodded. "And yes, that's probably lucky, since I was headed home. Good that we've got some good fortune." A smile; it wasn't entirely sincere, but it was polite enough for the job.

"Oh, Kozue-san. Are you heading back now?"

Kiriko rounded the corner, in the process of slipping a few library books in her bag and slinging it back over her shoulder. It seemed to take her a moment to properly register Maeko's presence.

"Akuba-san -- hello."

She returned the polite nod.

"I'm just fine. Sorry -- were you borrowing her?" She glanced at Kozue. "I'll just walk back on my own, then."

"Oh, she was going to come see the — you know, the friend in our room," Kozue interjected with a bit more gravity than was strictly necessary. Which was probably a hint that something against the rules was going on, in and of itself. "So we could all walk back together, pretty easily."

"Yes, that would be nice." Maeko said, smiling. She was still more curious about this dog now.

Kiriko nodded to both her companions, then turned on her heel and led the way to the dorms.

As they neared the door, Kozue hushed whatever (probably rather inane) chatter she'd been making, and looked around far-too-suspiciously. For someone with as much experience as she had in getting contraband into the dorms, you'd think she'd know that looking suspicious just made it worse. But, there it was. Since there was nobody in the hall, she approached the door to the double.

"Okay," she whispered, "Okay, shh." It might have been that she was actually talking to their door.

Maeko dutifully remained quiet, trying to peer around the door despite the fact that it was closed.

Kiriko, on the other hand, looked terribly confused.

"... Uh, Kozue-san..." Are you talking to the door? "... Is there someone in our room?"

Kozue was far too busy unlocking the door to respond--which Kiriko at least would notice was out of the ordinary, as Kozue was forever forgetting to lock the door when she went out, and then failing to understand if it was locked when she came back. She took another suspicious look around the hallway and then, barely opening the door, slipped into the dorm room.

And then reached a hand out and beckoned the other two girls inside. All in all, it was pretty much a terrible spy movie impression, but by the time they got inside, she couldn't contain the huge grin on her face. Pretending to be a spy was fun. She could, however, contain the exceedingly happy, tiny, and furry puppy in her arms, although he was trying very hard not to be contained. His tail was wagging madly, and he clearly very much wanted to meet these new people. New friends! New friends!

"This is Max-kun."

Puppy!

"Ah! He's so cute!" Maeko exclaimed, though she managed to keep her voice down after nocicing the amount of effort Kozue had gone through to get in quietly. hide the puppy. make sure it was safe. do something. "Hello, Max-kun!"

She struggled a little with the unfamiliar sound before reaching out to pet the puppy's head.

Kiriko looked a little shocked as she stepped in. She had assumed a boy was behind the door (and was thusly rather confused and wary as to why she and Maeko were being invited back), and relieved that it was only a boy dog apparently, but.. where did he come from?

On the other hand: puppy!

She was crouched next to Max almost immediately, scratching his head with a quiet "hey little guy!"

"Where'd you get him, Kozue-san?" she asked, looking up.

"He's Sagaki-senpai's dog," she declared, matter-of-factly. As if it weren't a secret (puppy) at all. "I'm… taking care of him, while Sagaki-senpai can't. Otherwise, he'd have nowhere to go, and I didn't want someone else to take him, you know?"

As had almost happened. The dog was lucky, too—he wouldn't have been happy with anybody but Tom, Kozue was sure.

"Ah, that explains the name." Maeko said, nodding. She didn't qutie believe Tom seemed like the puppy-keeping type. Until she decided he was probably training him to follow people around with a microphone attached to his colloar. That seemed like the kind of thing Tom would do with a puppy. "Poor thing. At least he's safe now."

With that, she continued being distracted by the puppy's existance.

"Huh? Dog...? Those aren't allowed by school rules, though, right?"

She had definitely checked that out. Maybe he didn't live in the dorms?

"If he's getting away with keeping a cute little thing like this, maybe we should look into getting a puppy, ourselves."

Kiriko's idea made Kozue's face light up with delight--she hadn't thought of that until now, but, she did live with a complete genius. "Oh, yes, can we? Can we?"

She grinned. "I mean… although, Sagaki does have a lot of things in his room that'd keep people from finding the dog, and I don't think we have much of the same." And she didn't particularly relish the idea of setting up booby traps, either. Although if it would keep the yakuza from paying any more surprise visits...

Maeko was usually responsible and stuck as closely as she could to the rules.

Puppies were always an exception.

"Ah, you'll tell me if you do, right?!" She asked, more excitedly than she said most things. "You wouldn't mind if I visited if you did, right?"
