Who: Keiichi and Renju
What: Club business.
Where: Cooking Club room.
When: After a meeting, well after exams.
Why: Because something's nagging at Renju.

Renju was normally one of the first or one of the last out the door after Cooking Club meetings: either she tidied up her own area and hurried off to study or take care of other obligations, or she tidied up her own area and then stayed to help with the rest of the mess before taking her leave. Either way, she'd been to enough meetings that she had it down to a science at this point.

Today, therefore, was a bit unusual. She'd been somewhat distracted throughout the meeting in a way she had only been on a few occasions (her first trip into Paradise, after each visit to those places, after the team split), and each attempt she'd made at her cake batter had failed in a unique and frustrating way (too floury, too eggy, cloyingly sweet, sticking to the bowl...). After the ordeal, she'd lagged somewhat in putting away her things, as though trying to avoid something she would much rather not do but had no choice in the matter about.

It was only after everyone else had left that she finally gave up on it, shouldered the satchel that had spent the meeting sitting by her chair, and approached Keiichi. "Excuse me, Ito-san. If you have a minute, I'd like to talk to you."

His efforts to clean were going slower than usual today, for whatever reason. He had just finished washing one of the cake pans when he heard Renju approach. Turning to face her, he dried his hands on a paper towel.

"Of course, Sonozaki-san. Anything for a loyal member in good standing."

He wasn't going to make this easy on her, apparently. This wasn't like the other clubs Renju had joined and drifted away from--she was actually somewhat attached here, or at least attached to a few of the people in it.

Somehow. She wasn't quite sure how she'd let it it had happened.

But that wasn't important. She squared her shoulders, much as she did before entering Paradise or fighting Shadows, and looked up at Keiichi. "This will be my last meeting with the Cooking Club."

"...oh."

Keiichi's shoulders slumped forward a little bit, and he shook his head. "May I ask why, before you go? I probably know, but I just want to be sure. We've lost so many members this year..."

Contrary to what some might assume, Renju was not entirely devoid of sympathy, and Keiichi's reaction elicited an inward wince. Still, he had to have been expecting it--all the club leaders knew her reputation by now, she was sure, and he himself said he probably knew why...

"To be perfectly honest, I joined just to try it, and I stayed for longer than I'd intended to." Polite though she was, she could also be fairly blunt when she wanted to, and it helped her push through the faint stirrings of guilt that were beginning to form. "I've learned a great deal here, but I don't have enough interest to stay with it."
