Who: Maeko, Kanaye
What: idk. Talking, I guess.
Where: Nanakamado
When: Just as clubs are finishing.
Why: wanted threads.

Maeko, proper and mature class rep of 2B, stuck her tongue out at Gendou's back as he walked off. It was her totally effective way of getting the last word in thier arguements. Student council meeting done, she unwrapped the anpan she'd been too busy to eat at lunch and wisely decided to eat it and run at the same time.

Some choking later, she arrived at the playing field with half the anpan (and most of a hurriedly bought 'oh no, I can't breathe! drink!' bottle of bromonade) in hand. She wasn't sure it was entirely normal to cheer when it was just practice and she just waved when she got close enough to tell which of the players was Kanaye.

Kanaye kept quiet and gave her his hand. Both of them, actually. He surrounded her hand with his own hands and squeezed softly.

After a while, the silence stopped feeling so oppressive and became more calm. Maeko still hadn't calmed nearly enough to use her voice again (that much honesty in such a short about of time? Not something she was at all used to doing) but had calmed down enough to want to and to think and to not be hiccupping every few seconds.

After a little more thought she pulled her hand back. She paused, looking at the scars on the backs of her hands, and then started moving them, almost reluctantly at first, to sign out the only phrase she knew for certain Kanaye knew in sign.

Kanaye felt the scars. He was still worried. Shouldn't they have healed by now? Then again, he didn't know anything about medicine or such. He might have Kou look at it or something.

Kanaye blinked as he noticed what Maeko was doing. He knew she was signing something, but...what? And then he saw it. He saw the one phrase he remembered by heart. He smiled slowly and repeated it, much more awkwardly and slowly then Maeko did.

Maeko nodded and smiled. After a few seconds, she finally managed to force herself to speak.

"Sorry..." She said quietly. Which wasn't quite what she was meaning to say (what she was meaning to say was closer to 'thank you') but was, she decided, close enough.

Kanaye shook his head. "No, no, no Maeko-chan. I'm the one that should be saying sorry. I mess everything up. So..." he trailed off, bowing his head. "sorry."

Maeko slowly finished the last of the anpan as she waited for her voice to return, distracted and not really giving it the attention such a delicious bread deserved.

"Thank you." She said, eventually. "Even if it's easily reversable, I still don't want you to be hurt."

Kanaye nodded softly. "I don't want to see you hurt either, Maeko-chan. Let's just look out for ourselves and each other in there, then." he said happily. "And...thank you, Maeko-chan, for caring about me. It...really means a lot." Kanaye started tearing up.

"That should work well enough..." Maeko said, smiling again. This had been a really weird discussion.

"Are you okay...?"

"I'm fine." Kanaye nodded, eyes still wet. He wiped them off. "Really, I'm fine."

The waiter, deciding that now was an excellent time to make them pay before they got into another fight and/or started showing too much emotion again, walked over, handing them the bill. He'd heard their little argument, so it was split.

"...if you're sure." Maeko said, deciding to concentrate on paying her half with exact change instead.

Once she'd counted it out carefully she looked back up at Kanaye. "Do you want to head back to the dorms after this?"

Kanaye just took out a couple of bills and put them into the waiter's hand. "Keep the change." he said before turning to Maeko. "That would be lovely, Maeko-chan." Kanaye smiled.

"Okay then," She said once they'd paid. She stood up and offered a hand out to Kanaye.

Kanaye accepted the hand, standing up. He walked over to the door, opened it, and bowed again. "After you, my mademoiselle Maeko-chan!" His pronunciation was no better then the last time he said it.

Ah. So it clearly didn't mean 'go inside' because this door now led outside. And it couldn't mean 'go outside' because before they'd been doing inside. Maybe it was less specific, like 'go through'.

"Thank you!" Maeko said anyway, going through the door. She paused after, waiting for Kanaye to follow.

Kanaye smirked, following behind, waving to the kind of annoyed costumers and staff still inside. He turned to Maeko, held her hand, and started walking back to the dorms.
