WHO: Keiichi and Kozue
WHERE: Butterfly Room.
WHEN: Before summer break begins. During gym.
WHAT: Kozue is in her favorite spot to skip things. Keiichi is running errands for Ito-Sensei.
WHY: We said so.

In the past, when Kozue had felt like skipping gym class, she had made vague, foreboding excuses to Aomori-sensei about not wanting to screw up her tennis game, or "feminine problems"—and that had always been effective enough to buy her an excuse note. But that had been when she'd needed an excuse note. Now, she had a secret otherworldly Class Skipping room. Well, she and nearly twenty of her peers did, but… hell, it wasn't like people like Reizo or Kanaye were going to tattle on her for blowing off a day of gym here and there.

And they were doing wrestling. Again. Wrestling with all of its attendant miseries, like Ito-sensei's encouragements and Shirou's enthusiasm and exceedingly dire possibilities of public humiliation. Who wouldn't skip that?

Hiding in the Butterfly Room had gotten creepier, though, since the introduction of the hands. But Kozue was trying her best to ignore them; it was largely effective. Instead, she was sitting on the floor, engaged in adding another coat of pink polish to her toenails. (She was also counting down the days to summer, when she could paint her fingernails as well without risking punishment from the school. Imagine! Weeks and weeks of fingernail polish and makeup and cute outfits with no restriction! And swimsuit season!)

Somehow, Keiichi doubted that he would follow his father's instructions to, quote, "go find that ex-girlfriend of yours! She's missed gym for the third straight day, so you have permission to use any and all suplexes to drag her sorry rear end back here!"

Still, he figured he knew where Kondo-san was. It was where most of the team seemed to disappear to when they didn't want to be found.

Well. Keiichi mostly went to his room. The Butterfly Room was still...sort of creepy to him.

Especially considering that as he walked in, some of the hands seemed engaged in moving the dolls around. Two of them had Misaki and his doll, and seemed to be taking great delight in mushing them against one another.

"Kondo-san," Keiichi managed, neatly stepping around a hand that went for his ankle, and taking a seat on the sweet couch. "My dad sort of, err, wants you to come to gym."

Kozue looked up at Keiichi walked in. Of all people, what was he doing skipping… Oh. Not skipping. Running errands for his father.

"Sort of?" She asked, tucking her knee closer to her chest, and stopping in her foot-decorating endeavors for a moment. "I sort of don't want to go, though." She frowned. That was about the end of her argument for or against; that and, the other half that she added, "Besides, this needs to dry before I put my shoes back on."

"Technically, I think you're more sort of required to go, so Dad's probably right. For once. He gets so upset when people skip. I really don't think he gets it..."

The senior Ito probably didn't get a whole lot of things.

"Isn't nail polish against school policy?" Keiichi shrugged. He was the sort to follow policy. He even wore the red blazer most of the time. Including now.

Of course, now it was mainly to cover up the fact that he was wearing a traditional pair of black wrestling tights, black wrestling shoes, and not a whole Hell of a lot else.

She wiggled her half-painted toes. "They won't ask me to take my socks off to show them. Toenails are fine. Besides, I'm pretty bad at following school rules." She shrugged, as if to illustrate the whole skipping class and hiding in the other dimensional room. That was hardly allowed, either.

"Fair enough, I guess. This place just gives me the willies. Besides, I like gym, but that was sort of obvious."

Considering he was trained to wrestle, it wasn't the terrible thing it was to most people. Besides, he'd even got used to walking around in front of his classmates in glorified underwear, and that was much harder than the actual wrestling.

This was...slightly awkward.

"So, err, how are you? Nail painting aside?"

She went back to painting, because it made the conversation distinctly less awkward for her. It was a great excuse not to look at him while she talked. "I just didn't feel like going today." A pause. "Or yesterday." Another pause. "Or the day before that."

"And I'm fine. Are you—you know, doing okay, after what happened to Misaki-chan? How are you holding up?" Although how is she holding up would probably have been the more relevant question, Kozue was still having some trouble empathizing with Paradise's most recent victim. Just a wee bit.

"I'm okay. Well, the glass coffin bit left a bit of an impression on me, but..." He shrugged. "In retrospect, makes saving you from that bird a lot less reckless looking decision, doesn't it?"

Keiichi wasn't claustrophobic, but spending an indeterminate amount of time in the glass box had made him....worried. Very, very much so. It wasn't something he'd wish on Reizo, much less Kozue.

"Mi-chan's mostly recovered, best I can tell. As much as she can, anyway. It's quite stressful I'd imagine."

"It does," she said, nodding; she looked up from her toenails after a moment. "Thank you, by the way, for that. I, uh, was pretty happy not to be murdered by the giant bird, and I know you're one of the people responsible for saving me." She smiled—though it was uncomfortable, just a twinge, and the smile sort of showed it.

"Good to know she's doing okay," she continued, mostly to prevent what had threatened to be an awkward silence—on her part, at least.

"I don't think the bird would have murdered you," Keiichi mused. "Just probably taken you off to the Happy Place, a misnomer if I've ever heard one."

She seemed...somehow more uncomfortable than he was. Which was sort of odd to him, really. After all, hadn't she been the one to break up with him?

Well. Keiichi was generally the sort to keep a stiff upper lip and move on. Misaki certainly helped, but even without that, he'd be doing his level best to still be able to talk to Kozue and such.

"Everything okay," he asked, a little quizzically.

"Well, you are here to bust me for skipping gym class," Kozue lied. In truth, the idea of having a conversation with someone she'd broken up with was strange—usually the end of a romance was the end of any functional relationship whatsoever, in Kozue's life. Then again, that might have been because she usually dated people whom she had little to no interest in as people.

Keiichi pulled out his cell phone. "There's ten minutes left by now. Even if I get you out of here, there's no way we'll make it back in time. I would say you're pretty safe."

Shrugging, Keiichi shifted on the couch. "So your streak of skipping hym should be entirely intact."

She laughed. "Good. I'm going for the record," she declared, before looking down at her toes again. Almost done. One more coat, maybe. "Which is held by your current girlfriend, I think." A pause. "Do you like the color?" A nod to her toes.

"It's nice," Keiichi nodded. "And yeah, I know. I'm trying to talk to her about it."

Really, Keiichi thought Aoi-san would look quite nice in a leotard, but now wasn't the time to voice that opinion.

"We...probably need to talk one of these days," he murmured, softly. "About the whole..yeah."

That. Yeah. She nodded, though carefully. He wanted to talk? Well, they did need to continue to have a professional relationship. She supposed, at least, it could be called that.

"Any time you want," she offered. It was the polite thing to do, right? And though internally she felt some doubt about it, she'd always prided herself on being excellent at handling breakups. A real pro.
