Who: Shiori and Keiichi
What: A magical quest~!
Where: A different town
When: Tuesday after school
Why: Shiori wants fancy art supplies and Keiichi wants to make advertisements for the cooking club.

It wasn't often that Shiori got to leave Iburi, and so when the opportunity arose for her to leave Shiori would usually jump at it. Usually, she went by herself since she'd go for art supplies; with her siblings too young or too disinterested and her parents too busy, it wasn't a surprise that she'd travel by herself. But now that she had company, she felt as though she shound dress up somewhat. To actually go to another city with another person... it seemed almost wrong not to dress up for it.

And so she wore her seldomly-worn white skirt and a black tee with an American band name written in a slight graffiti font. Though this wasn't a new look for her - outside of school, it was usually what she wore (the skirt and tee, anyway) - the white hair ribbons holding her hair into pig tails were. She usually never did anything with her hair except put in a pin, and she never wore hair ribbons. She hoped that they looked alright. Raising a hand to fidget with them once again, Shiori frowned at herself in the mirror before turning and grabbing her bag. Double-checking to make sure she had money, she slipped on a pair of flats and left for Iburi South, where she would be meeting Keiichi.

This time, she made sure to leave early too - she didn't want to be late again. And especially not when she was the one who invited him this time.

"Have you come up with anything new?" Shiori asked, perking up at the mention of him coming up with recipes. Aside from small parts of his lunch that she would ask for, she had yet to really try anything that he had made. She was really looking forward to it; if just his lunch was enough that she would "accidentally" forget her own lunch, she could only imagine what an actual meal would taste like.

Keiichi's sudden wince and request made Shiori falter as she looked at him worriedly. Usually, she was too busy trailing behind the group in the other world drawing pictures to pay attention to the interactions between the people. Did Keiichi and Satou-senpai really not get along? She made a mental note to pay attention the next time they went into the other world.

Glad for the change of subject (though she did get a bit more flustered when he patted her hand as he assured her that he didn't like formalities), Shiori clasped the strap of her bag tightly.

"For this!" Shiori exclaimed. "I've been so excited and the day just dragged on and on!"

Hesitating a moment when he asked if she wanted the window seat, she said, "Only if you don't want it."

"Some ideas, nothing more," he told her. "Lately I've just been making lots of basic stuff. My lunches and everything. Most of my reading and ideas are just that. Still, making basic things is important, too. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to eat everyday..."

Keiichi gestured to the window seat. "Go ahead and take it. I've seen the sights on a train lots of times. It's your turn."

Shiori was so...excitable. So happy about new things. It was a far cry from the girl he'd always seen in class, lost in her world of sketching.

Shiori nodded, supposing that he had a point. In the beginning, she had taken forever practicing the basics too, nearly obsessed with getting a technique just right before moving onto a new one. Now, though, as she grew more comfortable with doing things her way she didn't take as long with learning a new technique. So long as a picture looked good, she figured it didn't really matter if she did it in an unconventional method.

Wondering if that mindset could ever apply to cooking as well, Shiori beamed at Keiichi and sat at the window seat. She moved her bag into her lap, hand sliding in to take out her sketchbook.

"It's going to take awhile, isn't it?" she hummed as she got a pen out too. Not that she was about to start drawing right away or anything - how rude would that be? - but it was always better to be prepared just in case inspiration struck.

"Not too long," Keiichi replied. "My hometown's about an hour by train, and where we're going is halfway..so about half an hour, give or take."

Keiichi settled into his seat next to her. The train seat was remarkably comfortable. If not for his present company, it would be easy to take a nap. If she wanted to draw, she could, but he would be perfectly happy to chat. Once Keiichi got started talking, sometimes it was difficult to get him to stop.

"What are you going to pick up at the craft store," he inquired, looking at the artistic girl eagerly.

"Where are you from exactly, anyway?" Shiori asked. "Is it a city? Small country town?"

For Shiori, who had barely left Iburi, any talk of different places was interesting and most definitely welcome. It wasn't that she wanted to travel all around the world (or Japan, at least), but hearing tales of a place different from what she was familiar with always seemed like a fairytale to her. Maybe she'd take a break before going to Tokyo and visit a few places - just to find new things to draw.

"There's these ink pens I've been dying to try out, and the closest place it's sold at is Mayagi," Shiori replied. "Are you going to get anything there?" She paused, thinking for a moment before adding, "Or any other store. If we're going to the big city, we might as well explore a bit, right?"

"Somewhere in between. It's a medium sized town, really. Perfectly average." Keiichi shrugged. It was hard to describe the place, probably since he was so used to it. "It's home, I guess."

Ah, so that's why they had to go to Mayagi. "I was curious why we had to journey so far when Iburi has a couple of craft shops. I guess if you want anything good, you have to leave..." Keiichi didn't mind Iburi, really, but sometimes it felt a little bit sleepy, even by his standards.

"I don't know if I'll get much at the craft store, but if you want to explore afterwards, I'm all for it. I don't go to Mayagi much at all."

He didn't sound too impressed about his town, but Shiori understood. It wasn't like she bragged to strangers about being from Iburi, either; charming and friendly as it was, it really wasn't anything special. It wasn't a big town like Asahikawa or Sapporo, and there really wasn't anything interesting enough to attract a lot of tourists. His hometown, whatever it was, was probably like that too.

"Iburi has everything but decent art supplies," Shiori said, shifting in her seat slightly to get more comfortable. "We should explore a bit then. It'd be kind of waste to spend five minutes in Mayagi and then get back on the train."

Idly, she wished she had grabbed one of the pamphlets the station had. It'd be too late to run and grab one now, but at least if they had one they could plan where to go somewhat.

Ah well. There was nothing wrong with just walking around.

"We should," the second-year agreed. He didn't like trains much anyway, and he wouldn't have been on this one as it stood without her asking, anyway. "From what I hear, Mayagi's kind of nice."

Not that he knew, of course. He'd never been there. Never really had a reason to go.

Keiichi settled back in his chair, leaning a bit closer to her. "I'm just glad we got Oubai out of there okay." The Cooking Club president shuddered a little bit. "Nothing seems to make much sense anymore."

Surprised when he scooted closer to her, Shiori wondered if he was doing it to get comfortable or if he had to say something. Of course, her answer came right away - he wanted to talk about the other world.

"It doesn't," she agreed, staring down at the cover of her book before hesitantly leaning closer to him as well. She didn't fully relax though, instead remaining tense as she said softly, "I.. do you think so many people should have gone? It was kind of..."

She trailed off, realizing she didn't have the right to be talking about the whole rescue mission. She had trailed behind drawing the whole time, save for a couple of battles, while people who really cared for Oubai-san fought and got hurt and...

She straightened, moving back to her original spot.

"It's good he's back," she said instead, giving a fake smile - perhaps the first one she had to force for Keiichi. "Aoi-san certainly seems more cheerful, doesn't she?"

"Better to send as many of us as we can," Keiichi mused. "It's dangerous in there. More of us there are, with our different abilities, the better chances we have."

He was a chef by nature...but there was something about the expedition that made him want to lead. At the bare minimum, he was willing to put aside his enmity for the good of the group -- and make no mistake, there were members of that group he didn't especially like.

Next time, he resolved, he would join the battle more. Maybe even lead, if they'd let him.

"She does at that," Keiichi agreed. "Though she's cheerful most of the time. With everyone."

That was part of who she was, really. Even with people who didn't deserve it.

"I wonder if she's..." again, Shiori trailed off. She didn't know Aoi-san well enough to wonder if Aoi-san was hiding something, and it just sounded like bitter jealousy even to her when Shiori thought that Aoi-san couldn't possibly be that cheerful all the time. Quickly, she added, "I wonder if she's hanging out with Oubai-san. She probably won't let him out of her sight for a long time, huh?"

She laughed quietly, feeling more subdued since the topic came up. The shadow world bothered her more than she had thought, apparently.

"Oh! I heard about the Cooking Club participating in Spirit Week. I'm really excited for it!"

Topic change is gooooo~

Keiichi was...looking forward to it far less. Suffice it to say that he didn't appreciate being blackmailed by that...poor excuse for a Student Council President.

Of course, he wasn't going to say that.

"It'll be...good, I suppose," Keiichi replied. "It sort of got put together at the last minute--" There was an understatement... "--but I think the Club will be okay. As long as we don't burn down the school..."

It seemed as of late that nothing at all was going right.

"Nothing will happen with you supervising," Shiori said confidently, grin faltering at the sudden lurch of the train as it finally started moving. Turning to look out the window, despite there really being nothing to see, Shiori turned back to Keiichi.

"Ah, finally!" she exclaimed. "I can't wait until we get out of Iburi! There's nothing new to see here!"

Even the countryside, which usually went by in a blur, was more exciting for Shiori than her hometown. Everything in Iburi she had seen, but the countryside and Mayagi were new.

"You're more confident than I am," was all Keiichi said, as the train began to move at long last.

Her exuberance was amusing. "It's just a lot of countryside, really. nothing to be too excited about. Some rice fields here and there. Though, I should visit them soon. One of the rice growers and I have an arrangement. I buy most of the rice I use from him."

Making a mental note to remember to do that, he rested back in his chair. There was so much going on that he had on his mind. Maeko, for one, and the girl's seeming obsession with Misaki. That was unlikely to end well.

"Really?" Shiori asked. "Is it cheaper that way or something?"

She listened to his answer, and the conversation lulled to a companionable silence. Shiori had sketched some, not adding the detail she usually did since they wouldn't be on the train for very much longer.

"Ah, finally!" Shiori cheered as the train arrived in Mayagi. As it slowed to a stop, she put her book bag in her bag and stood once the train finally did stop. Stretching her arms up into the air, she let them drop as she beamed at Keiichi. "Ready to explore~?"

Slinging his own backpack over his shoulder, and returning her smile, Keiichi rose to his feet.

"Let's," he said, letting her out into the aisle first. "I've never been here before. Do you know where the craft store is?"

He imagined the town would be similar to his own hometown, though probably a bit smaller. If so, there'd be a nice plaza in the center with all manner of shops.

"Mmhmm!" she nodded. "It's the only place I can find though, so we should probably get a map."

Exiting the aisle and then the train, Shiori craned her head up. Mayagi's station was so much more impressive than Iburi's, she had to admit. Bigger and everything. But everything about Mayagi was that way.

Keiichi nodded back at her, walking over to the ticket counter. He came back moments later with a neatly folded map of the town.

"This should do," Ito-san said, tucking it into his pocket. "Let's go to the craft store first, then we can figure out where to go next. Business before pleasure."

It was an expression his dad was fond of. It was likely best for Keiichi that he never found out why.

Shiori watched as Keiichi went to get a map, stretching idly as she waited for him to return. He would make a good leader in the other world, she thought to herself. He certainly did a good job of taking charge when it was just the two of them - which was definitely a positive thing. Shiori was so spacey it was a wonder she made it to half the things she did. But Keiichi...

"Ah, right!" she said, tuning into the real world as he came back. "It won't take me long to find the stuff, either! Unless the shop rearranged it's layout..."

She really hoped it didn't though. She hated when stores would do it to make things "easier" for everyone. Usually, she just ended up confused and would stop going to the place for a long time. Long enough that she forgot the old layout and could adjust to the new one.
