Training and PASSION!!!
Who: Tomako, Shirou, possibly Masami
What: Training for the Tournament
Where: The Gym where else
When: After school before Tanabata
Why: Because Tomako needs more PASSION in his life.

Tomako held the boken out and took his stance. He tried to concentrate but it was a bit hard. The girl that he'd written to, thinking it was Kondo Kozue, turned out to be Tachibana Yoshimi from the same class as Kozue and his sister. This had lead to not only a strange first date, but his first real rejection from a girl. True she liked him, but in that 'You're just a cute kid' sort of way. Which he tried not to let bother him, but it did.

Slicing through the air he tried to picture his opponent, but it was difficult and he knew he was messing up. Angry he threw the boken to the ground and huffed at it. "Stupid thing!"

Things had just been getting worse. Oubai-sempai knew he was cheating on his tests now, and sooner or later, unless he passed the next one, so would his parents and then...he would be off the team, he would be grounded, and god only knew what else. Upset he sat down and pulled his knees up to his chest. At times like these he used to go to his older brother for comfort, but now he was the oldest boy in the house and other then Misaki, who wasn't there either, there was no one for him to confide in about things.

Frustrated he wiped his eyes, ordering his body to not try, forbidding it. Getting up again he picked up the boken and tried again, and once more failed at what he was attempting to do. His mind was unclear and uneasy, and it translated to his motions.

"Damnit! I'll never get this right for the tournament," he cursed to no one.

"You...You found that speech inspiring?" Tomako looked suprised. "No offense Sempai but I didn't find it that inspiring. In fact I found it down right insulting and embaressing. Be glad you don't talk to her much, she can be such a pest at times."

"Passion? Why do I need that? I know in the end I'm not going to make a career out of being a Kendo master." Tomako looked curious at Shirou. Then sweated some. Was his sempai for real? "Er...All right. I'm pumped now?"

"It doesn't matter if you're not going to make a career out of it! You just have to do your very best! That way you can look back at things later with no regrets!" Shirou replied, and for an extremely brief half-second an almost pensive look crossed his face. However, it was almost unnoticeable, since it was almost immediately replaced by the same overexcited look from before.

"See, that shout of yours was weak, Tomako-kun! You didn't have the passion, willpower, and conviction to do it properly! It's the same in a real match! If you don't have passion, willpower, and conviction guiding you, you'll be sloppy and never win!"

"Even if you do your very best that doesn't mean anything will come of it," Tomako explained. "You have to be first in everything for something to actually matter. Regrets are only going to happen if you fail to make your family proud of what you do. It's what our mother is always telling us."

"And how do I get that when everything I've been working on is now suddenly not going right for me? I don't have anything to be passionate about. I thought I could get this way about Kendo, but even that's not pleasing people, so what's the point?"

"If things aren't going right, that just means you didn't have enough conviction and willpower!" Shirou shot right back. "I think that if other people aren't pleased with you, it's because you must not be pleased with yourself! That's why you need to be pleased with yourself! Then other people will naturally come around!"

"So don't let yourself get down like that, Tomako-kun! You need to believe! Don't believe in me, who believes in you! Believe in you, who believes in you! So come on, say it with me again!"

"ALL RIGHT! I'M PUMPED NOW!"

"Not enought conviction or willpower? I thought it was because I didn't get the problems. Ah...will such a thing grant me good grades? I mean if I have this conviction and willpower?" He asked then sighed, "Pleased by myself? I guess, but...that isn't going to change my mother's view points."

Tomako made a face, Don't believe in me, who believes in you? He chuckled some, "Sempai, you know you sound like one of those super Sentai on TV."

"All right. I'm pumped now." Tomako said, "How was that?"

"Tomako-kun, if you want to be successful, you can't do things halfway like that! This isn't just about saying the words! You have to feel the passion yourself or there's no point!" Shirou chided the middleschooler before taking a few steps backward.

"Now watch me and try again! But this time, you need to really put your own heart into it!" Shirou said. He crouched down, then thrust his right fist straight up as he jumped into the air.

"ALL RIGHT! I'M PUMPED NOW!"

"Now you look like Yuu but you're pulling off Brad's move." Tomako joked then grew quiet. "I never do things half way. But what is there to be passionate about? No one's ever proud of what I do here. I'm not captain of the team, so really they don't care what I do right? And my family doesn't seem to care."

"How can I feel passion for something when I don't know how to get passionate about it?"

"Just because you're not the captain doesn't mean you don't matter! Look at Sakuraba-senpai! She's not the captain of the team, and everyone still depends on her! Doesn't that go to show that if you do well, people will be proud of you?"

"How to get passionate? That's what I'm saying! Try shouting a bit! Let go of your fears and misgivings and concentrate on just the moment! GET PUMPED!"
