Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:keiichi, misaki

WHO: Misaki and Keiichi
WHAT: Being friendlike. Possibly/Probably more.
WHERE: Outside of school.
WHEN: Monday following Maeko dungeon.
WHY: Cause that's what friends are foooooooor! IN GOOD TIMES, AND BAD TIMES--err, nevermind...

With no Cooking Club on Mondays, Keiichi found himself waiting outside of Nanakamado, waiting for Misaki to make her way out of the school building. Things were relatively sane again -- well, as sane as they could ever be in his life.

Still, he felt good. Even though his relationship with Kozue had tanked -- and he still needed to actually talk to her and make sure she didn't hate him, he was able to concentrate again. Able to focus on cooking and the things he enjoyed.

One step at a time, Keiichi.

"I do need to talk to her, yes," Keiichi admitted, "but that's the sort of conversation I would set up with her in advance. Best I can tell, though, she seems perfectly happy going about her life right now."

That may actually have been what made it easier for Keiichi in the long run. Kozue almost seemed as if the relationship never happened. Well. She was more experienced in these things than he was.

"Sure, Mi-chan. That'd be great!" Post-Paradise was always difficult. He always felt exhausted, both mentally and physically. Any chance to relax was welcomed. "And I'm glad to hear that."

"Great. By the way what are we going to do about the Cultural festival? I know some of the girls wanted to do a dunk tank, and Renju-sempai...did she offically join yet, or was she just testing it out?" Misaki asked trying to get her mind off of Maeko and other things. She smiled thoughtfully.

"Hummm, that reminds me I...I might not be able to make it to a few meetings of the club."

"I don't quite know what the deal with Sonozaki-san is yet, to be honest," Keiichi admitted. "Nor do I know what we should do about the festival. The dunk tank's not a bad idea, I suppose..."

The Cooking Club had become an even bigger mess than it had been. Once, Keiichi had been able to throw all of his efforts into the club. Now, his time was split between paradise and pasta.

"Oh?" Keiichi asked. "That's not a problem. I can handle things. What do you have going on? Ikebana having more meetings?"

"No more like I got a part time job at the same cafe where Harkura-sempai works. The manager liked my dispostion so, he asked me if I wanted to work there." She smiled gently. "I'm really excited Keiichi-kun! I can't wait to start there. They have the cutest costumes."

Misaki smiled brightly, "Where would you like to go, My treat sempai."

"Haruka-san?" He knew the name, albeit extremely vaguely. "Oh, you're working at a cosplay cafe? I don't think it's the same one Ishinomori-san took me to. I'll have to go check it out and see you there!"

The idea of Misaki in *costumes* was the sort of thing that he'd spent a decent chunk of the early year thinking about every so often. "Have fun there, Mi-chan. Don't worry, I can run the club by myself when you need to work."

Keiichi smiled. "If you insist, Mi-chan. But you pick the place. I go to the same places all the time."

"Yes it's called the Barabara Rankun. We can go there to have lunch, it'll be quiet since most of the people that go there come on the week end. And they always have some sort of theme to it. Or we can grab some bentos and just have lunch in the park, or whatever you want Sempai." Misaki smiled cheerfully.

"Well I'll try to. But if you come to visit then it'll be more fun. I think they even have maid days..." She seemed to be thinking. "I'll have to make more costumes though."

"You decide, Misa-chan. Please?" Really, he wanted her to decide because she'd be running the club after him. It was important to make decisions when you were the leader.

"And I promise I'll come to visit," he added, smiling. Cosplay cafe would be a new experience for him. Maybe there would be one of those girls from that new game he'd picked up..

"But I..." Misaki looked unsure and smiled, "Well what would you like to eat Sempai! It'll make chooseing a lot easier."

Truth was she hated to just choose and then it turn out to be something that he didn't want or like. Misaki just liked to make others happy, and she didn't want to eat somewhere that he wouldn't enjoy the food.

The pink hair bobbed some as she nodded, "Okay! I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. The girls there are very nice and they really get into their characters. Haruka-sempai even purposely mews like a cat at times."

"Hrmm," he mused, "I haven't had pork cutlet in a while. Know any good places for that?"

Keiichi blushed a light shade of pink. "I, err...get sort of nervous at places like that, to be honest. Ishinomori-san took me to a maid cafe once, and it was..."

Keiichi's arms flailed around a bit, looking for a way out.

"Pork Cutlet it is then," Misaki nodded and thought, "um...there's a small dinner near the flower shop that sells it. We could try there, okay?"

"Huh? Why? It's just pretend you know," she smiled brightly. "He did? Which one was it?"

She ducked her head some and giggled, "Sempai, it's okay to go to those places. it's like going to Disneyland in Tokyo. It's just a lot of fun."

"That's fine with me, Mi-chan."

Keiichi was still sort of blushing. Really, they made him nervous. "I don't remember the name of it off hand. You'll have to ask Ishinomori-san."

He'd pretty much blocked it from memory, really.

"I know, I know.." His voice trailed off a little bit, and he squirmed where he stood. "It's just...different when it's someone you know in the costume, you know?"

"Different but why?" Misaki blinked a bit confused by this. It was still her right? The costume didn't change anything really. She was still Misaki and he was still Keiichi-sempai.

Grabbing his hand she pulled him along a bit. "Come on Sempai, you can explain while we walk okay?"

"I--"

He didn't get a chance to get out the rest of it, since she was pulling him along. Keiichi got his feet under him, catching up enough that he could continue.

"It's different when you know the person, though," he sputtered, looking at her and trying not to flail again. "Especially when they're pretty, and one of your close friends, and..."

"Pretty? Are you worried about me Keiichi-sempai?" She asked smiling some. "You really don't have to be. I'll be okay."

Misaki gave his hand a reasuring squeeze.

"I'm not worried about you," he said. "I know you can take care of yourself..."

Keiichi was notably flushing pink, but he did his best to continue keeping up with her as they walked. "It's more..." How the Hell did he explain this without...

"Humm? Something the matter Keiichi-sempai?" Misaki blinked some and smiled. She felt a bit nervous.

"Well I'm glad you think so," She turned to walk backwards so she could look at him and talk. "Most don't, you know. I always worried that you would think I would burn down the cooking lab."

"You're one of the best we have in the club. I'm really not that good. I only lead it because no one else wanted to."

That was why he really wanted her to lead it. Inept or not, he enjoyed the Cooking Club and wanted it to survive. Misaki seemed the best chance for that. She was popular and knew what she was doing.

"Most people don't give you enough credit for that," he concluded, smiling as they continued to walk along. "You're quite capable."

"You...You really think I am sempai? I mean capable of doing things?" Misaki blushed deeply and looked away. "Not...Not even my mother really thinks that I'm able to do much."

She looked at the ground, "The reason I joined Cooking club at first was because I wanted to show her I could do something. Even if it wasn't that impressive to her." She glanced up, "But I'm glad I was able to make at least one person happy about my skills. Thank you sempai, that really means a lot to me."

"From what you've told me, your mother expects too much of you most of the time. You're a wonderful person. You need to be given more room to be, well, you."

Keiichi was...a bit squirmier than usual in this conversation. Primarily because he was single again, and Misaki was being her usual self.

The Kozue relationship had saved him, he'd thought, from the inevitable awkward conversation with his junior chef. Life, though, tended to laugh at such neat solutions to problems.

"Mi-chan," he asked, sighing to himself. Better to get it over with sooner than later. "Do you like me?"

Misaki blinked, "To be me?" She laughed some, "I don't even know who I am. So how could I be me when I don't know..." She paused and shook her head.

"Like you?" she paused, "Ah...well yes. You've always been a good friend Sempai."

Oh. Of course.

That answered that, really, and now they could go on and get something to eat, and--

Keiichi's heels ground against the concrete of the ground, and he stopped where he was. Last time he'd let himself just stop here, he'd ended up in a relationship that, as much as it was nice at the time, probably was destined to end up the way it had.

No. He was going to *ask* this time. Besides, if he already knew the answer, how bad could it be.

"I don't mean like that, Mi-chan," he managed. This part was...somehow more difficult than he'd thought. "Like me, like me. You know. Like..."

"Ah, Keiichi-sempai. What do you mean like like?" Misaki thought a moment then it dawned on her. "Oh you mean like-like..."

She flushed red, "Ah...um...well...I think so. I mean...um..yes."

Well, now that he'd asked, he could--

Wait.

"You do," he asked, quietly, taking a step closer to her. "That...I'm happy to hear that. I've...sort of liked-liked you for a while now."

The words "pretty much since the beginning of the year" followed.

Misaki looked puzzled, "But why? I don't really understand..."

She flushed deeply and pushed her hair back behind her ear. "I'm not pretty like Kozue, or determined like Kiriko, or strong like Maeko, or really skilled like Shiori-chan was. I...I'm only good at domestic things and all."

Misaki looked up at him, "But...if you liked me since then, I mean..."

"Well," he began, trying to figure out the best way to express this, "if I liked any of them, I would have asked them, instead of you. I asked you for a reason. Lots of them, really."

Keiichi grinned at her, patting her on the shoulder.

"You're you," Keiichi said. "Comparing yourself to other people never lets you see the positive things that you have."

Reaching down, he offered her his hand. "We can talk about it over food, Mi-chan. Shall we?"

They, Keiichi figured, would have a lot of time to sort out the hows, the whys and the specifics.
