Who: Kozue and Maeko
What: Looking around
When: Post-Dungeon. One Day, After School.
Where: The Butterfly Room
Why: It's pretty, it's mysterious, it's kind of blue.

Bonus to a mystical half-in-this-world half-in-that-world lobby on top of the school? Kozue was pretty sure that nobody from the Tennis Team (not even Ito-sensei) could find her there and hold her responsible for blowing off practice.

It was, therefore, an exceedingly awesome place.

Kozue had snuck up to the roof directly after school, in the few minutes before practice started; she would have liked to say that she was aching or tired or stressed from the recent trip into Paradise, but really? It wasn't any worse than it usually was, and aside from a bit of a cramp from being stuck inside that Relic, she wasn't any worse for the wear. She just had no interest in going to tennis and failing at that for two hours or so. Especially if it was Tennis Wrestling Day—and you could never tell when those days would pop up. She was sure she could get her absence excused, and curiosity had been nagging at the back of her head. So here she was, stepping into the strange, off-sized, cavernous-tiny room. She opened the door and slipped in, listening to her footsteps echo in the empty space.

There was an extra set of stairs on top of the roof. Maeko wasn't entirely sure why she wasn't surprised about this, especially since there wasn't logically anywhere for them to go. It felt a little like she'd been there before.

Maybe she was just getting altogether too used to things like this. Either way she wasn't thinking quite as much of 'I'm climbing stairs that I have confirmed don't exist' as she really should.

Oh well.

She openned the door that didn't exist because there was nothing on top of the roof and peeked through it, ready to slam it shut and run if there were and scary monsters. Kozue wasn't a scary monster.

"...Kondo-san? Where is this?"

Startled, Kozue looked up as she heard the door open; her eyes went wide and she gasped, suddenly thinking that maybe Shadows did come in here after all and oh god she was going to die and--

And it was Akuba-sempai. Her panicked expression deflated slowly.

"A-Akuba-sempai. You know, I don't know what it is. We came here when…" wow, uncomfortable territory to tread, all of a sudden. She hadn't actually expected to personally talk to Maeko for a while, and just the two of them, alone? Well, that'd never actually happened. "…the first time we went into your Paradise. We ended up here. I think it's a safe place, but we don't really know anything about it."

A pause. "Did nobody tell you it was here?" How else would she have found it?

So it was related to paradise. That made sense, at least as much sense as anything related to that place did. She looked around, vaguely remembering it somehow and associating it with a butterfly that was speaking to her in sign. Somehow.

"Oh. There were more stairs than there should be so I thought I'd see where they went..."

"That makes sense," Kozue nodded—not that she'd think the same thing if she'd seen the extra stairs without knowing what they were. She'd probably have assumed they'd always been there, and never bothered unless she needed somewhere to hide.

"If you go through the door at the other end, it leads to Paradise," Kozue pointed down towards the other end of the room, and the only other stable, fixed-distance item, the other door. "And there was a butterfly before." She glanced around, wondering if it would appear again; she couldn't decide if she'd want it to happen, or not want it to happen.

Maeko nodded. She moved toward the other door to examine it but thought better of actually openning it.

"A butterfly? Oh, I saw that before, I think." She didn't mention where. Mostly because she didn't know.

"Hey, why are you here?" She asked, suddenly a littleworried when the thought occurred to her. "You weren't going to go in there on your own, were you?"

Kozue shook her head quickly. "Go in there on my own? No thanks!" She stopped short (barely) of saying that she wasn't nearly insane or suicidal enough to run away to Paradise. Thinking of who she was talking to stopped her.

"I was actually hiding. From tennis practice." She admitted, a bit sheepish. "I figured maybe Ito-Sensei and the team captains couldn't go here, since it's. Well. Whatever it is." She looked down, not sure whether to expect a rebuke or not; Maeko was on Student Council, after all.

Maeko was on the school council but honestly the tennis practice was hardly a huge concern. She shrugged. "Well, as long as you're not doing anything dangerous."

She paused, thinking. She hadn't even mentionned what had happened with Kanaye to Misaki yet (though in all honesty she hasn't mentionned much to Misaki since she'd returned). But if anyone knew what the proper reaction to the whole thing was it would b Kozue.

"Hey, Kondo-san?" She asked, not even bothering to make it sound like the conversation was just going there naturally. "What are you meant to do if a boy says he likes you?"

Frankly, going to Tennis Wrestling was probably more dangerous than skipping—with the Wrestling part, at least, and you could never tell when Ito-sensei would make an appearance.

Thinking about this, it took her a moment to process what Maeko had said next; she looked back from the hazy wall, blinking slightly as her eyes refocused on the solid upperclassman. "If a boy confesses?"

Huh. Though she had a hunch as to who had said what to Maeko, Kozue kept herself from prying. Yet. "Well, you're probably meant to date him—if you want to, of course, or think you might want to. Or did you mean, like, immediately after?" She stopped, pondering what exactly Maeko's question had been (and also whether Kanaye had expressed his love in his usual bombastic fashion—and why he'd done it so soon after Maeko's disappearance).

"Um, I guess immediately after is kind of over." Maeko thought aloud. Could she ask Kanaye to say it again so she could respond properly? That sounded kind of stupid. "But it'd probably still be good to know."

She shrugged; "I guess that ship has sailed, but… well, your reaction should always depend on how much you want to make him work for it. It can be kind of fun," she said, shrugging slightly, beginning to smile a little. "If you act like you're really surprised and need time to think it over, well," the smile grew, "some boys will really, really try to convince you."

She knew it. So 'really? okay then.' had been incorrect.

"So I guess that means I'm supposed to be dating him now, then..." Possibly the most ridiculous sounding examination of a situation ever. "Okay, thanks!"

She blinked. That was simple. Even for her these things required more contemplation than that. Even if not much more than that… And so what if sometimes the contemplation was cursory and mostly drunken? It was still a thought process. "Well, if you want to be. I mean. Do you?"

Maeko thought for a second, not particularly used to putting more thought into her own affairs than 'I'm supposed to do this? Okay.'. After a few seconds she nodded.

"I don't not want to." She said, still thinking. "And it's a change and I said I should change back there."

Kozue nodded: "Well, that's a good enough reason. I mean, if you're not sure, that's what dating is for, and you can always choose not to date someone way easier than you can choose to date someone." At least, from where Kozue was standing; of course, relationships were easy to start and end for her, but ending was nonetheless easier than beginning.

She laced her hands together, feeling slightly uncomfortable, trying to come up with what one ought to say to the latter half of Maeko's comment. "It's also fun," she settled for, after a slightly too-long pause. Not that that had anything to do with Paradise.

Maeko thought again in a very exaggerated manner. The action she made might have normally been scratching her cheek if she could move her hand at all. Instead it was placing her hand on her face.

"Yeah, that too." She said after a while. If anyone would know that it would be Kozue, after all. "Thank you!"

"You're welcome. So who told you he liked you?" She asked, starting to grin and swinging her hands, unable to restrain her desire to hear it from Maeko's own mouth—and get Maeko's opinion on it. That mattered, naturally.
