Who: Maeko, Kanaye
What: Apologising.
Where: Kanaye's house.
When: Evening, day after dungeon.
Why: She works there?

If nothing else, Maeko was stubborn. Given the circumstances she could probably have been forgiven for not showing up at school or work the day after all of that. But the one thing she really had to build on if she intended to fix anything at all was being a hard worker. If she wasn't working hard she didn't really have much at all.

She'd not been a great deal of use during her shift. Her excuse to Ishino-sensei and the school nurse for the state of her hands had involved claiming she'd had an alegic reacton to a soap and scratched them up in her sleep. Apparently the solution to that was the medical equivelant of mittens and now she could hardly move her hands at all. Still, she'd tried her best. She just had one more thing to do. Apologizing.

She pulled her coat on over her uniform, less because it was cold and more to avoid the other staff assuming she was still on duty, and knocked on Kanaye's door quietly.

"Senpai, are you in?"

"Really?" Maeko asked. "Did Ito-sensei take over? Or was it because of that place?"

Maeko was most parts confused and trying to avoid thinking too much because all that came to mind was still the idea that this was some practical joke. She was used to silence, it didn't seem so awkward to her.

"Other than my hands? I'm just a little tired. But slacking off isn't going to get me anywhere, it'll just mean there's more to get done later."

Kanaye shrugged. "A combination of both, really. I don't mind the guy personally, but he's too obsessed with wrestling to make a good coach or teacher. He's a guy I'd like to have a beer with, but not a guy I'd like to be a coworker with. And that place is really making me tired. Not that I'm complaining, mind you." he pointed out. "Saving people like you is much more important then my comfort."

Kanaye nodded with a worried look on his face. "If you insist, Maeko-chan, but if you feel tired or weak in any way, let me know! I won't force you into anything you don't want to do or don't feel like doing! That would be dishonorable!" Kanaye wondered if he was laying it on too thick, but he continued on. "Relax and enjoy yourself, Maeko-chan. It's what I'm doing."

"His lessons are tougher than Aomori's but he really does put his heart into what he does, at least." Maeko said, nodding. "I've heard a lot of people are having difficulties with him because he's unwilling to accept sick notes, though." She grinned. "Whatever's making people end up in that place, it's pretty unlikely that it'll stop. But it's only a month until August break, now. If nothing else it'll be a good chance for everyone to get some rest then."

Maeko shook her head again. "I'm fine, really."

Kanaye nodded in agreement. Yay for more things in common! "Yeah, that's kind of weird. I mean, he's forcing Kojima-kun to be the manager of the wrestling team because he has a frail heart. I don't like the guy, but even so, that's kind of cruel, don't you think?"

August break? He had completely forgot about that! He punched his palm, happily getting an idea. "Oh yeah, that reminds me!" he stops suddenly and turns to Maeko. "Do you want to go somewhere on the break?"

Kanaye nodded, though it was obvious he's still worried. "If you insist..."

"Really? I didn't hear about that. I'm not sure the school's rules allow that. If she has a doctor's note it's not supposed to be questionned..." Maeko didn't think too much about the -kun. Kanaye didn't use appropriate honourifics normally anyway.

"Huh? I hadn't thought of something like that. Oh, but what if something happens at that time? It'd be bad to split the group up..."

Kanaye shrugged. "I don't think Ito-sensei would care anyway. I mean, he made the soccer wrestling team! I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL SOCCER WRESTLING IS!" he shouted to no one in particular. Kanaye blinked a bit, then hunched down, blushing. "I apologize, Maeko-chan. It's...weird."

Straitening up, he laughed. "It's just the two of us. They can handle it without two people. Hell, maybe they can come along? If there is a killer," Kanaye started whispering. "Then they only seem to be focusing on persona users. Therefore, we can be safe. If someone does go missing, we're there anyway."

Maeko laughed at the sudden outburst. "It's fine. I don't know what it is either. Did you try asking him?"

"It's a life or death situation in there. If even one person's missing things might turn out worse..." She thought for a few seconds and then continued. "Everyone? I guess if everyone started getting along..."

Kanaye smiled. Maeko was so cute when she laughed. "I would, but he'd go into a tirade over the meaning of the sport and not answer my question til after an hour long speech. I'll ask Keiichi-kun, maybe he knows."

Kanaye chuckled happily and clapped his hands. "This would be an excellent time for team-building! Think about it! There isn't any stress, everyone's happy. I mean, there would probably be arguments from time to time but at least we could work together!"

"Ito-san? I didn't think he cared much for sports..." Maeko started, shrugging.

"If you think everyone could get along well then i'd probably be a good thing. The stuff in that place is caused by what's stressing people out, right? Maybe if people are less stressed then even if they end up in there it's easier to deal with?"

Kanaye laughed. "Yeah, but it's his dad. His dad wouldn't lecture his own son like that, right?" Of course he would. That's what Kanaye was betting on. Better him then me, after all.

"Well," Kanaye shrugged. "I think most of the problems was that we weren't taking it seriously. Those angels actually helped us a bit, actually. That might actually work, Maeko-chan."

Kanaye was actually enjoying himself. It wasn't exactly what he had expected, but talking was fine with him.

"I guess not." Maeko refrained from pointing out that her own experiences of parents lecturing children where somewhat skewed. "I suppose if anyone could get a straight answer it'd be him."

"Um, I'm glad my attempting to kill you was so useful?" How was she supposed to react to that, anyway. "I think Ikeda-san called a meeting. We can bring it up then once everything else has been dealt with."

Kanaye started flailing wildly in panic. Crap crap CRAP! "I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make it come out like that! I didn't mean to remind you of that please don't go!" he said quickly.

"Ah! It's fine!" Maeko was even less sure how she was meant to react to that and so smiled and shook her head. "There's no point in avoiding the subject, anyway. Not talking around it won't mean it didn't happen."

Kanaye sighed in relief. Thank god she didn't hate him...Of course, given what he knew of God, he should probably be thanking someone completely different. "Thank you, Maeko-chan. I knew what I was saying might be careless, so I just wanted to apologize to make sure. And...I'm sorry if that was kind of pathetic. I'd...rather not talk about it, yaknow?"

"Oh, okay then. I guess it's normal to want to avoid walking about it." Unable to come up with anything to say, she settled for squeezing Kanaye's arm for a second as communication.

Deciding that particular topic was over, she attempted to find another conversation topic. She had no idea about any shared interests so went for something obvious.

"Do you enjoy soccer, senpai?"

Kanaye smiled. "Thanks again, Maeko-chan." he responded happily, squeezed her arm somewhat gentler. ...Couples did this, right?

Kanaye really didn't want to talk about himself, but if Maeko asked, she had to be interested, right? "Yeah. I got into it just to annoy my parents, but I started liking it a after a bit." he said as nonchalantly as he could manage.

The thought of doing anything just to annoy one's parents seemed slightly alien to Maeko but she nodded anyway. She'd found a non-awkward conversation topic and dammit she was going to stick with it.

"Oh, I heard a lot of people get forced into joining clubs or just do it to put something on job applications and end up doing something they don't want to do. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I guess that means it's a shame you don't go so much anymore, then..." She trailed off, thought, and picked up again. "Tell me if you start playing again, okay? If it's not when I'm meant to be at work I'll start going to cheer for you again."

Kanaye shrugged. "As I said, the group is more important then what I personally want." He did, however, quirk an eyebrow at her choice of words. "You'll start going to cheer for me AGAIN? You mean you cheered for me some time before this?" Kanaye figured that this was what Misaki was talking about, but preferred to stay silent for two reasons: One, in case he was wrong he wouldn't look like an ass. Two, he wanted her to say it herself.

And an unfortunate choice of words there had led to expressing more than she really intended to. Oops. The stairs to the skypark were just up ahead. She hadn't even made it that far without running into a situation where her first reaction was to lie. She shook her head, scolding herself. No more lying unless she really needed to. Even about hings that were realy, really stupid.

"I- I used to go to cheer last year." She admitted, dropping eye contact and staring at the floor instead.
