Who: Shiori + Tom
Where: Library
What: A forbidden conversation~
When: Weekend
Why: Because they're in the library and aren't supposed to be talking.

The only reason why Shiori was back in the library so early was because her parents wanted her to get a start on her homework. After screwing around for the few days she had been back, her parents had decided she needed to buckle down and start working on getting caught up on a month's worth of homework. To say it sucked was an understatement.

And yet here she was, in the library, with her books piled neatly to the side of her save for one that was open before her. A notebook also sat in front of her, words covering the first half of the page and the margins filled with more than a few doodles. She was understanding the work, surprisingly,  but it was more of a matter of being able to focus on it. Which she was completely and utterly failing at right now. Shiori hated doing homework, and she especially hated doing it anywhere but at her house. Not that she was able to focus there either, but at least she wouldn't bump into people in her room. Or she'd hope not, anyway.

Really, she was surprised no one had spotted her and wandered over. Then again, it was probably only a matter of time. She wondered how long her luck would go for.

Tom was carrying a stack of books, all of them relating to religion, mostly the Abrahmic ones. He didn't notice the girl sitting at the table, when he dropped down into one of the seats. He set the books on the table and looked over past the stack of books.

"Oh... umm... Wakanta..."

Lightly drawing a circle on her page, Shiori sat with her head propped in one hand. She was so bored, but she really did want to at least get work done in all of her subjects so it looked like she accomplished something. It'd get her parents off her back for awhile, at least. Hearing a chair at her table being pulled out, Shiori looked up curiously before raising her head off her fist. The other male recognized her as well.

"Sagaki-senpai!" Shiori said, blinking in surprise. Of all the people she had imagined running into here, Sagaki was at the very end of that list. Looking at the books he had, Shiori smiled weakly. "Studying too?"

Maybe she could divert the conversation away from her and keep it on a neutral ground.

Tom nodded.

"I've had some work to do."

he looked around to see if there was a free table and not seeing one frowned. He looked back toward Shiori. It felt like he had a reason to speak to her before, but couldn't remember it now.

Blinking in surprise at his almost cold way of excusing himself, Shiori watched him looked around before down at her book. Feeling even more disheartened, for the effects of her leaving were even more evident, Shiori cast one look at Sagaki before reluctantly picking up her pencil and beginning to get back to work.

Or trying to, anyway.

Twirling the pen listlessly between her fingers, she sighed quietly as she read about some math equation she would never use outside of school. This was certainly... yeah.

"Do you still have the puppy?" she asked suddenly, staring at a word in her book instead of at the person she had just addressed.

Tom looked at her and blinked. The question had come out of the blue, and he seemed at a loss for the answer.

Then he regained his bearings. He leaned in close to whisper the response

"Yes. His name is Max now."

Wrinkling her nose slightly, Shiori ducked her head more. Max sounded like such an American name. But Sagaki was from there, wasn't he? She supposed it would only make sense that he'd name it something familiar. Shiori was sure that if she had gotten her beloved fish when she was in Tokyo, she would have named it something related to her home.

She froze for a moment. When was the last time she had fed her fish, anyway..?

"Has he gotten any bigger?" she asked after a moment, deciding she'd check on her fish as soon as she got home. Whenever that was.

Tom nodded.

"Only a little bit. I still had to build steps for him to get around the room. He likes to look out the window."

Tom shifted uncomfortably, unsure why he was willing to share so much with Shiroi. Something about her seemed so oddly familiar.
