Current mood: anxious

Afternoon Affairs
Who: Nayuki & anybody else who's free and willing
What: Paying a Visit to the Student Council & Exploring School Facilities
Where: Inside Nanakamado Escalator School Premises
When: Immediately After classes... just as the dismissal bell rang, actually.
Why: Nayuki promised to pay President Retsu a personal visit & to properly witness after school activities.

"Pleased to make everyone's acquaintance. My name is Tonbo Nayuki. I transferred here from Nagano Nishi High. I will be in your care in these years to come."

And that's how it started.

Section 2-B seemed like a pretty lively bunch, much to his surprise, and everyone welcomed him right in. He wasn't quite sure if it was just for formality's sake or out of something quite genuine, though. Without bothering to contemplate over that fact, he saw through the entire day of class in full attention. Homeroom was quite a dizzying experience as he caught a barrage of questions from his new classmates. The attention was something he'd never get used to, and he hoped that it would die down as the days would pass. Fortunately, he was at his best behaviour today, a special focus training that his best friend taught him. The rest of the lessons went on with nary a hitch. And as testament that he had quite a lot to catch up to, Nayuki flicked through almost eleven pages worth of notes concerning things he was not familiar with. He let out a deep breath as soon as the bell chimed to indicate the conclusion of the day's tutelage. Everyone began to pack up, eager to be elsewhere.

And with the pressure of first-impressions finally subsiding, Nayuki decided it was time to do a little exploring. Haven been seated at the rear of the classroom, he didn't waste any moment to sneak out from his new peers. Whispering his sincerest apologies, he made a beeline to the rear door before anyone else would think of accosting him for anything that might delay him in his plans. To be honest, he believed the travel to be faster if he would only ask one of his new classmates for directions, but another side of him savoured the chance to literally get lost in campus and map our everything in his head from there.

At that point in time, he could only wonder if he will be successful in his 'evasive action'.

And so, they met...

With his satchel secured by his hip, he weaved past the obstructing desks to reach the rear classroom door. Everyone seemed busy enough with their own circle groups for the New Guy to manage sneaking out of the room. Nayuki kept a watchful eye into the classroom as he slowly slid the backdoor close.

"Mission Accomplished," he mumbled to himself, pleased with his getaway. "Now to get to the Student Council's Office."

As he headed for the stairs, the sound of a door sliding open & the laughter made him turn around to look at classroom 2-B. And just as he did so, something soft collided with him, pushing him a few steps forward. It was immediately followed by a muffled thud and a panicked voice of a girl. Ignoring the rest of the students in the hallway, Nayuki turned around to take a good look of the voice's owner, and it practically caught him off-guard. "Uhm..."

Luxurious pink hair falls past the shoulders of this fair-skinned girl, easily her most noticeable feature. Long and straight, they betray the layered cut between her shoulders and bangs over her brows. Her face is smooth with delicate features, implying such mysterious origin. Her eyes are large and a stunningly rich shade of blue, almost to the point of being hypnotic, and thin lips with an inherently pleasant gloss floats over the honeyed voice that delivered her words.

Someone coughing from the back of the hallway crowd gave Nayuki the chance to snap out of his unsuspected stupor and quickly collect his senses. He approaches the girl, who appears to be a freshman judging from her panicked speech, and offers a hand to her, "Don't be quick to put the blame on yourself. I wasn't exactly looking where I was going." The scene reminded him of a simmilar situation he experienced, only he was on the other end of this conversation. He couldn't conceal his smile, "Are you alright? Does it hurt anywhere?"

Misaki flushed some and smiled relieved that the older student didnt' get mad at her. She smiled pleasently at him, "Yes I'm fine, Sempai. I'm so sorry for running into you like that. I'm still a bit sleepy this morning."

She tilted her head then looked at the classroom, "Oh you're the new student, aren't you. You're the one I spoke to on the jounal. I'm glad to finally meet you Tonbo-sempai."

"Oh! Almost forgot I have to get those papers to the teacher, ur...where did she say...Right student council office, third floor. So why was I stopping up here? Maybe to see Maeko-chan...but it's running late, Ah, will you excuse me Sempai!" Misaki blushed.

It took another few seconds before everything fell into place for this transfer student. With the mention of his Student Terminal Access Journal and a sophomore referred to as Maeko-chan, it all made sense. And when it did, it was as if he woke up from a daydream. Planting one hand on his waist and the other gesturing towards the stairs up, Nayuki replied, "A - ah, yeah. You're a sharp one, aren't you?" He was then reminded of a florist, and mentally chuckled, "I'm sorry to have kept you from urgent business." He then took a few steps away to give her some space to move up the stairs. "Forgive me for not realizing who you were, Aoi-san. But, if it's alright with you, might I accompany you to your destination?"

Some students were mumbling incoherently as they approached Misaki and Nayuki before going around the two of them just to reach for the stairway down. He quickly takes his stand slightly behind Misaki's position and quickly adds, "I was on my way to the Student Council, myself, you see? But being new to the place, I expected to get lost. But..." Flashing back a reassuring smile, he continued, "Now, with you here on urgent business, I wouldn't have to get myself lost to actually locate the place."

He paused for a bit, smiling as he waits for the Misaki to take the lead, "Two birds with one stone, right?"

Misaki smiled at this comment, "Oh it's no trouble, really. If you want to come then sure. It's really just upstairs. I'm glad you remembered my name Tonbo-sempai."

Looking behind her she motioned for him to follow then led him up the stairs to the student council room, "Retsu-senpai or Maeko-chan might be here, so I can introduce you to them."

"It would be very rude of me to immediately forget a warm welcome, Aoi-san," He began to take to the stairs, "I just hope I wouldn't be intruding them from something important." Casually following Misaki's lead, Nayuki adjusted the strap of his satchel.

The hallway on the third floor seemed deserted and some classrooms still showed activity. "Or is it because they run on a different class schedule that the younger years?" He mumbled to himself. It was at this time that he was beginning to realize just how big the High School wing of Nanakamado was. They have been walking for quite a while, with Kleine entertaining Misaki with some stories of his life at Nagano Nishi, before they actually arrived at the door to the Student Council Office.

"Ah, pardon me, Aoi-san." He quickly fixed himself, even though there was very little need to, and took a position to flank Misaki on her left side. He glances her way and gives her a quick smile, shrugging, "Force of habit."

"Ah...Sempai, why did you do that? There's no need really." Misaki explained as she slid open the door and smiled looking inside. "Hummm looks like Retsu-sempai isn't in yet. He must be running late from his class."

She strolled over to the desk and smiled, "But he left out the papers I was going to need. I hope the teacher is okay with me being a bit late. I figure I'll wait here with you till he comes."

Nayuki, who apparently was holding his breath, finally sighed and let the tension leave his body. He couldn't figure out why he keeps getting nervous about formal introductions. "I guess they're all busy." He stays by the door and waits for Misaki to collect her documents.

Upon hearing the young girl's suggestion, he held his hands up infront of him and gently waved, responding, "N - no, Aoi-san. I've already inconvenienced you as it is. Thank you for taking me here. I'll just return another day." He then stands aside to make room for Misaki at the door and offers a hand to her, "I still have time before going to work, so... with your permission, I can accompany you to your lecturer."

Nayuki, though completely impressed with Misaki's kind nature, wasn't going to allow her to be late for something urgent, especially if it involves academics... most certainly not for his sake. He just hopes he didn't delay the pink-haired girl too much as it is.

"Oh, Okay sempai, just let me leave them a note to let them know that you were here and we can head off. I can show you around the classes if you want on our way down. You're going to have to get back to class too. Um...How about after school I give you a tour, if that's alright?" Misaki brightly suggested.

Misaki's energy just keeps radiating and Nayuki finds himself reminiscing of his best friend. He gently shakes his head, chuckling, "This is enough for today, Aoi-san. But thank you for the kind offer." He follows the pink-haired underclassman out the door and flanks to her left. "I've monopolized your time long enough. And I'm sure you have plenty of things to manage." He shrugs, still unsure why he finds it easy to speak to someone he just met, "I'm not going away so I can take my time discovering things about this place."

He starts humming a melody to himself as muffled echoes of lectures and recitations fill the corridor. The third years are still at it. Äs their trek reaches the stairway, he adds, "A year from now, I'll be preparing for college entrance exams just like they are." This time, Nayuki takes the lead, positioning himself a few steps ahead of Misaki, acting as a landing buffer in case she misses a step and slips. Another habit of his other life that he just can't get rid of. "I'll see you as far as your destination, then I shall return to my classroom to check on the cleaning duties."

Misaki started to giggle some suddenly and smiled, "I"m sorry sempai but you remind me of a character from a drama I watch. You act and talk like he does, all gentleman like."

She pushed back some of her hair as she followed him and chattered brightly, "See he's a memeber of the royal family and in order to lead a normal life he took on the role of a boy who goes to a normal school. But the problem is that he acts all dignified and stuff."

Misaki smiled at him as she walked down the stairs next to him, "But you're not like that."

Nayuki's felt like his gut twisted and turned something fierce, almost missing a few steps upon hearing Misaki's words. His mind started racing at that point, completely filled with questions and paranoia. Was it pure coincidence or did this pink-haired freshman know something he doesn't? Trying to push the sensation down and thinking up of a good cover, his body rewarded him with the Nervous-Laugh-Response. He clears his throat and smiles, "Ah, but if only we were living in our own drama series, I'd hope for a better artist to play my role."

The transfer student suddenly wasn't sure if his deflection was going to work, or if he was ever going to calm back down despite putting up a solid facade.

Clearing the staircase, Nayuki returns to flanking Misaki on her left side. "I'd also wish for a not-so-suspicious employer for my part-time-job." He finally lets out a natural chuckle, and smiles for Misaki whenever her eyes would wander his direction. That's it, Nayuki. It's just a coincidence. Nothing to worry about!, was what the voice in his head kept telling him in reassurance. He lets out a mock-sigh and shrugs, "Sadly, I live in a real and gritty world." As they continue to walk, he quickly adds, "Thankfully, you seem to fit the description of a fairytale princess come-to-life."

Misaki laughed some, "That's true, I can't see you as a prince Tonbo-sempai, you don't seem like the type. Besides, no one would willingly just become a normal person, would they? I mean, people like us, we have problems too. I guess that's what the prince is learning in the show. It's not easy being normal. Hummm, maybe Shinjuki Akira could play you though."

"Not so suspcious employeer? What do you mean? Is there something wrong at your job?" she asked but then flushed deeply when he added, "Fairytale princess, oh no no no! I'm no way a princess. I wouldn't know what to do if living that life. My family...they're slightly workaholic, well my mother is anyway, and you know, I just color my hair to look like this and set me apart from my sisters, and these aren't even my natural eye color, they're contacts that I put it."

She had not been called such a thing before, "Ah...thank you though for the compliment."

Crisis Averted!

Breathing a sigh of relief, Nayuki smiles and shakes his head, "I wouldn't think they'd be really willing to go that far from their comfort zones to learn how things are done normally." He shuffles behind Misaki for a few moments to let a few mad-dashing first years pass by unobstructed. He did give them a quick word of caution as they passed. With that said and done, he returned to walking side-by-side with the pink-haired lady, recapping on the conversation. "I feel like I'm not doing a very good job playing my role, to be honest. And I feel like I'm stretching myself too think on studies, ever since middle school."

After giving way to another group of rushing first-years, Nayuki shrugs to Misaki as they continue to traverse the 1st floor hallway, "You've already read my logs about my part-time-job, Aoi-san. Those points alone make me a little inquisitive about what I do." He makes an attempt to hide his displeasure after hearing how Misaki's family almost mirrors his own before they drove to their deaths. He clears his throat at his social faux pas and gives her a reassuring smile, "Well, now. You just gave me more justification in referring to you as a fairy-tale princess." Raising a hand to Misaki, and using his fingers as ordinals, he adds, "First off, most princesses endure hardships in their immediate area. That's until something or someone comes along to provide a sort of magical transformation to facilitate a change for the better. In your case, you are your own fairy godmother as well... the results are lovely, by the way, so take pride in that." He gives her a playful wink, then continues, "Lastly... With your good heart tied to your beauty, I'm very sure you'd have no trouble gaining the attention of a prince charming, or two." And after giving her a gently tap on the shoulder, he places his hands in his jacket's pockets and resumes the escort. He quickly notices the subtle differences between the floors of the High School building. He makes a mental note of the details to prevent any embarrassing mishaps and then glances over to Misaki, "Don't fret, too much over your changes, Aoi-san. They suit you." He then smiles brightly, "Though, you've gotten me intrigued in discovering the cute you hiding under all your alterations."

Misaki tilted her head some, "But some people might depending on how they live you know. I've read of rich people going and pretending to be poor to see if others will help them out. Studies are important though, they help a lot, I'm just...not very good at them."

Watching him give a quick caution to some first years she had to laugh, "You're acting like a hall moniter you know." Misaki teased some as they continued to walk. She thought a moment, "Are you sure they're as odd as you think. I mean you could just look into them."

She flushed as he went into massive discription into his points about her being a fairytale princess and laughed, "Surely you jest, as I doubt a prince is just going to ride in here and wisk me away. Then again I don't know if I would really want that." She blushed some at the compliment, "Thank you, but I didn't do this to be lovely I did it so that I didn't have to look like my sisters, that's all." She blushed even more when he suggested that she'd find a prince charming or two. That she highly doubted, and rubbed her arm. "The cute under this? I...I doubt you'd find it that cute."

First day of school and Nayuki still couldn't believe he was having such a casual conversation with a very interesting freshman. His new classmates are quite interesting, as well as the homeroom teacher. But something with Misaki in particular just happened to captivate him, and he's clearly confused as to what it is exactly. He shrugs off his worries about his part-time job and tells her that he may be just paranoid. Though, with the pink-haired girl seemingly selling herself short a second time, he replied. "Perhaps I should have moved in Iburi earlier to get that chance, hm?" Unsure why he suddenly blurted that out, Nayuki bit his lower lip.

"I'll stop now." He shrugs and chuckles, "You might end up thinking that I'm just teasing you. And I wouldn't want a kouhai to think badly of me... especially on my first day." Coming up close to the end of the corridor and the doors to the annexed building, he slows down his pace and clears his throat, "By the way, Aoi-san... you did mention that your brother runs a flower shop, right? When's a good time to visit?"

"Hummm, what do you mean by that Sempai?" Misaki looked at him curiously and then laughed some. She wasn't sure about this boy but he didn't give her the feeling that Tom did. So that was a plus. He was polite and nice, but it made her wonder if it was an act or not.

"Don't worry about teasing me sempai, I get that a lot. I don't think badly of you at all Sempai, I think you're a very nice person, and I'm glad I got to meet you." Misaki smiled sweetly. She looked suprised at his next question. "Um...just about anytime after six usually. It's quiet then and I come to check on him and bring him dinner. He leaves it open twenty four hours since it's near the hospital. He has different workers for different shifts."

"I just thought of something silly, and meant that it would have been nice to have known you earlier than this." Nayuki shrugged, they stopped walking for a bit so he decided to lean against a bulletin board. This pink-haired girl gave him a bit of reassurance with the outcome of his actions, and that made him smile. "I'll be sure to stop by Hanakotoba after work, as my room could a touch or more of flowers." He then gently gazes at Misaki's blue-contact eyes, "It's really a pleasant surprise to meet someone like you here, Aoi-san." He shyly looks down to avoid further embarrassment. "Well, I mean... I've only known two other people who are just as openly nice as you are."

Nayuki failed to stop the words from escaping his mouth. "The first is my dad." He paused for a bit, snapping out in time before bitterness set in. "And the other is my best friend who's still at Nagano Nishi." Staring out the window, he continues, with his hands animately moving along with his words, "She's just like you, you know? She cares about anyone, just because she can. And she always looks at the brighter side of things, which tends to become infectious at one point. I help her out a lot with some of the council's tasks even when I'm not even part of it. Everyone in campus practically branded me as her shadow, something I didn't mind, as it felt natural for me to come to anyone's aid." He then lets out a sheepish grin, "What did set me apart from her was the fact that I was a stickler for school regulations. It caused me a lot of trouble outside school but, in the grand scheme of things, it only served to fuel my resolve."

"I'm not really sure, but I think I end up gravitating towards people who are very honest with themselves... because I got tired of people keeping up appearances just to exist, myself included." He then brushes his hand against his hair and pushes himself off the board to flank Misaki once more. "Though all that changed when I finally convinced myself to just do what I wanted. Again, thanks to my best friend's incessant prodding." He chuckles and shakes his head, "I grew a new set of backbones and told my relatives that I wanted to transfer here to take control of my future." It took a while, but he finally realized something and gave Misaki a playful smile, "I'm sorry... I didn't think I'd end up ranting on you." He looks on to the path ahead, "Which room did you need to deliver the papers to?"

Misaki listened quietly as they walked and stood there calmly as he ranted. It seemed the right thing to do, for her own sake if not his. Taking in everything that he said Misaki gave him a understanding look as she patted his shoulder, "Semapi it's fine. I don't mind you talking to me about such things. And I would really like to meet your best friend, she seems like someone very special to you."

Misaki glanced around, um...actually, I think we already passed it." She laughed some. "I'll back track, you should get back to your class, you'll be late if you don't."

A pat on Nayuki's shoulder was all it took. His face may not have betrayed it, but he was choked by his memories and was reminded of his circumstances. There are no more political maneuvering in here. No more people who would bend over for him to curry favors. No more envy or worship for stature. He is finally free of his tiresome mask. Misaki's touch had somehow confirmed everything for him. "I'll be sure to introduce you to one another when the opportunity arises." With his features loosening up, he finally gave out his most genuine of smiles. "You two would definitely hit it off."

Turning about, he continues to flank Misaki, shaking his head, "I'll head back as soon as I see you to your destination, Aoi-san." He made sure he wasn't hovering too close to be rude, or too far to be thought of something else. "Etiquette dicta---" He quickly clears his throat, "No... It's just not in me not to see this through. So..." He gives her a mock-salute, chuckling as they retrace their steps through in the corridor. "I hope you can bear my company for just a bit longer."

Yes, Nayuki thought to himself, No more masks. This is good. This is me.
