WHO: Misaki and Kozue.
WHAT: Totally girl bonding time. Or something.
WHERE: Nanakamado --> ?
WHEN: Week after the trip. After classes.
WHY: See what, kids.
WARN: None.

Kozue wasn't normally a student who focused that much in class; her mind drifted off and she stared out the window, or she passed notes, or she sent text messages composed one slow key-tap at a time on a totally silenced phone tucked in her desk. Today, she'd been thinking about Misaki. Of all the odd things, yes, Misaki. Of course, it wasn't easy to completely disregard her when the fluorescent-haired girl was in the same room with you all day.

Misaki had been visibly upset at the assembly on Monday - had she been agitated on the camping trip, too, or was Kozue just projecting bad feelings backwards? Certainly, when Kozue had seen her at the arcade, she'd also dropped hints... Or maybe just spoken of her feelings honestly, as that seemed more consistent with Aoi's usual behavior.

By the time class ended, Kozue had formulated a plan of sorts. Maybe Misaki was, in fact, down in the dumps; maybe not. Either way, Kozue could still very clearly remember that visit to Oubai's ryotei, when Misaki had offered -- practically fought, in fact -- to pay for her dessert course, and how she'd said she'd make it up to the other girl when it sort of fell through. But she hadn't ever gotten around to it. And kindness like that was the sort of thing that really deserved reciprocation, more than any fancy after-dinner treat. And why wasn't today a good day? At least, provided that Misaki wasn't headed for one of her many club meetings. If Kozue had known what days the clubs all met, she could have planned better - but why was she interested in finding that out? It hardly mattered. Either it'd be today, or they'd make plans for later.

When the teacher dismissed them, and the students started to rise and unsettle and chat, Kozue got up and made her way over to Misaki's desk: "Misaki-chan, are you busy today? I was thinking about going out for a snack, if you'd like to join me."

Misaki had been distracted by some images in her history book. History wasn't her favorite subject, better then math though and much better thn science, but the plus was that there were dresses from different eras and, given time, she could study them and quickly make rough sketches of the styles that she liked and use them to create a new pattern for a dress, skirt, shirt or something of the like.

True to her normal form, she was much better then she had been earlier in the week, save for the fact that right now she was scribbling furiously various number, ie mesurments Misa style, all over the page. Scratching things out putting them back in, all sorts of things that she would normally do at home in her room. But her room wasn't her room right now. Nope, her room was off limits as the perfect bride was staying over, and due to the fact that her brother had a small bedroom, he offered Misaki's room, since she was the closest to the washroom, for her to use till her apartment was cleaned of whatever it was that had infested it. So now, while she had the moment, she was trying to create a quick style based on what she saw in the book.

She didn't hear Kozue approaching, nor did she look up till she saw the shadow of the smaller girl over her book. Misaki paused and looked up, "Oh Kozue-chan. I didn't see you there. I'm sorry...a snack. Oh...uh, alright if you want. Sure."

Kozue glanced down at the page that Misaki had been scribbling on - numbers? Was that... her math homework, maybe? No, her History text was open, so what did it have to do with numbers? "Well, I don't want to drag you or anything - but I've been meaning to thank you for being so kind back at Oubai-sempai's restaurant - and there's this place I really want to try out, anyway."

"Oh sure thing," Misaki said closing the book then looked at Kozue and blinked some. She turned back to the book and flipped open to the page she was on, then looked over Kozue again, as if undressing her with her eyes. A smile flashed on her face as she looked at the picture she was drawing.

"Kozue-chan, how do you feel about modeling?"

"Modeling?" Kozue asked, immediately flattered -- and it was obvious, too. Of course she was assuming that Misaki meant Kozue in some relation to modeling, and not one of any number of other totally plausible meanings. She blinked slightly, and smiled. "I've never - modeling clothing, right?"

Her smile widened, becoming more authentic. "It's always looked really cool." Of course, it was part of a class of occupations -- along with idol, and actress -- that half-Americans were really popular in, and part of a class of occupations that her grandmother loudly and frequently disapproved of. (Although most of her grandmother's disapproval was directed at idols in particular, sometimes she generalized.)

"Would you please be my human er...dummy, for a dress I'm trying to make. It's based on this one, but, well, I need someone with longer legs to wear it." Misaki explained blushing about her form. She had a decent body but she never thought it was that flatering to were the dress she was making.

"Please Kozue-chan, I'll even pay you if you want." She smiled at her classmate sweetly.

"Oh, you'd never have to pay me for that!" She said, quickly, waving down the idea. "It would be my pleasure to be your human dummy." She had taken to the title already - and the accompanying ego-boosts. Odd as it was to derive an ego boost from being someone's "human dummy" - it meant Misaki thought she was pretty enough to model a dress she herself was making.

"If you're sure I'd work, I mean, models are supposed to be tall, aren't they? And what does the dress look like?" She peered over Misaki's shoulder, curious. Why was it coming from the history text book, for another good question. Or maybe Aoi just had a design book tucked inside her textbook, and that was how she herself got through the day.

"Are you sure? I can make cake or something for you in turn, it wouldn't be right for me to just ask you to do this for free you know." Misaki blushed some and smiled. "It'll be like a really awesome life size dress up doll. Only you can be the kind with all the neat gadgets that make you talk and such."

"Yes I'm sure it would work the design is for someone who's smaller in height and long in legs, and you have the right sort of legs to show off Kozue-chan." She explained and showed the dress which was a high type of haulter dress based on Roman styles, that cut into a short skirt in the front and a longer see through over skirt in the back. "See you have to have a very good set of legs to wear this."

"Thanks, Misaki-chan and -- Oh, wow, that's gorgeous," Kozue breathed, looking at the drawing. "That's your design?" It was, indeed, gorgeous, and it spoke of a great deal of talent on Misaki's part. Especially if she could actually make it into a real dress, instead of just a drawing and an idea. And, indeed, the dress would really suit her - it'd play up her legs, which, thanks to all the sprinting for her athletic club, were really rather nice.

She looked up from the design again, grinning. "I don't need a cake, really, and isn't it a bad idea to feed someone when you're trying to fit an outfit around them? Kind of cross purposes?" Her eyes squeezed along with the smile - besides, she'd been eating way too much cake recently.

"Really you think so? I've been trying to design this all afternoon but no styles been right. I think it would look really good on you. Um...well instead of cake, do you want to have the dress? I can set it up that you can unhook the back side of the skirt so that it's just a mini dress?" Misaki offered. She knew that it would take a lot of Kozue's time up, and she wanted to compensate for it somehow. She blushed deeply, compliments about her clothing were welcomed, but she was still scared that people would see that she still had a far way to go.

"Oh um...we can talk over patterns and such while we're eating?" She offered.

"Wait, really, you'd let me?" In a rare show of real animation, Kozue's eyes went wide, and her jaw dropped. Misaki would really let her keep it? Seriously? That was the best-- how wonderful-- the nicest girl--

Then she withdrew. "Oh, I couldn't accept it," she said, tone measured once again. "That would be taking something way too valuable from you." As cute as that dress would be - and it would be cute. "Oh - I like that idea. I want to hear more about it. Do you design dresses a lot?"

"Sure you could, and you should, it's the right style for you Kozue-chan. You'd be too cute in it. Besides it would be to your size and everything. And yes seriously, you can have it." Misaki smiled at her and grinned.

"Huh? Oh didn't you know. I make all my clothing. Well about eighty percent of it at least. I just tend to not like the styles they have in stores, so I prefer to make clothing that I want to make." Misaki explained with a shrug. "Why would you like me to design a dress for you?"

"It's just that that's a pretty incredible talent." And it was, too - she made most of her own clothing? "Where did you learn sewing and designing from?" She knew there were schools for that, but they were, to her knowledge, mostly colleges.

Kozue smiled, although inwardly she was debating: she did want the dress, it was true, but she knew that she had to insist that she didn't want to impose, or couldn't accept it, at least three or four more times before she could gracefully surrender and accept.

"I'd feel guilty taking something that you worked so hard on, really." She shook her head. "It's incredibly charitable of you."

"Oh, well, see I used to hate to wear my sister's hand-me-downs so I started to buy used books on altering and got a very cheap dress stand and just picked up on it. It was fun and something I didn't need to have people helping me with all the time." Misaki explained and smiled. "Just sort of learned it myself."

"Oh don't worry about it, you're wearing it for me, it's the least I can do after I take up your time when you could be doing other things. Please I insist, Kozue-chan." She smiled sweetly at her classmate.

"I'd be honored - if you're completely sure?" She checked herself from accepting too quickly again, but moved on. "Is there a Sewing Club here at school? Or a Fashion Club?" She wasn't up to date on all the Cultural Clubs, after all - there was Ikebana, and there was a Tea Club that she was saving joining until the next time her grandmother was berating her. (That was, coincidentally, how she'd ended up joining Ikebana; it sidetracked Granny's rants when she announced she was doing something that made the old woman happy.) But other than that, well, she was mostly lost. Cooking, and... some other things.

Misaki shook her head, "No there's none. The school didn't think there would be a big enough following for it."

She blushed some, "Yes I'm sure Kozue-chan. I'm sure it'll look stunning on you too."

"Oh, that's too bad." Wait, Cooking was more popular than Fashion? What kind of weird parallel world was this, anyway? "Alright, well, snacks? There's this little place I know that does really amazing fruit marzipan and candies in the summertime, and I think they just started."

She couldn't keep a smile off her face, from the compliment. "I really look forward to seeing it," she responded.

"I've never tried that sort of candy before. I can't wait to, this is going to be a lot of fun," Misaki said and laughed when she saw the look on Kozue's face.

"It's normal for a school like this to not have a sewing club. Most girls would rather buy clothing then make it."

"It would be a lot of work," Kozue agreed, "but so are most club activities. Like Ikebana." She laughed. "And that has less pay-off." A pause, while she considered. "So, why are you in the Flower Arranging Club? If you don't mind my asking."

Misaki blushed some, "Well my niisan is a florest and I want to be able to help him. I joined to learn more about flowers and because I like them. They're pretty and have lovely smells and they mean things that you can't say to a person face to face."

She smiled mildly, nodding, and then - wait, said things? What? She tipped her head. "Speaking in flowers? Oh, like... delivering arrangements? Or using them in art?" She was intrigued. And it was the kind of thing her grandmother would say, although she'd phrase it somewhat differently, granted.

Misaki blinked and stared at Kozue a moment with a "Huh?" expression on her face. She thought a moment then laughed.

"Um... well it's more like, each flower has a different meaning and when you mix certain flowers together you can express a feeling that you might not be able to say to someone face to face. It's called the language of the flowers."

Misaki walked with her down the hallway, "And yes he delivers the arrangements and creates them. And I guess you can say there's a way to speak in flowers in art. It's kinda hard to explain."

The pink haired girl thought for a bit then grinned, "Like if I mixed red roses, Periwinkles and Ranunculus, it means that the person sending the flowers wants to say to you that they're attracted to your physical beauty, that they promise you a long and close relationship, and that they love you. That's what the meaning of flowers are."

"But whoever you're sending messages to, they have to speak that language too, or else it's pretty much wasted. The message - the flowers are still pretty." She contemplated this, swinging her school bag back and forth. "I'm only really familiar with meaning in position, you know? But that's pretty cool, like a secret romance code."

With spies. Why did spies always pop into her head when she thought about codes or secrets? It was a perfect and unbreakable trinity, apparently.

"So are you looking to get a part-time gig at his shop, or what?" Then again, knowing Misaki, she might just be doing it out of the goodness of her heart. In fact, she probably was...

"No, he's got other people working for him. I just work there for free. I'm kinda thinking of getting a job though. I just...don't know where yet." She smiled. "But I'm going to have to wait till after summer, that way my mom doesn't think I won't be screwing up my schoolwork."

Misaki looked up at Kozue, "Oh by the way are you going to be going to the festival over the summer?"

"Oh, that makes sense," she said, nodding, and thinking; when was the festival again? "I'm not sure - I haven't worked out vacation schedule with my parents yet, since my father is really busy with some business; he might have to go overseas during the summer, he's not sure." She shrugged. "So I might be going to see my parents in Tokyo, but I'm not sure when. I also might not."

"If I don't, I'll be around. The old family home isn't all that far from town," she added, with a frown. The old family home was a convenient way of talking about the place without pointing directly to her grandmother, of course.

"Well if you want you can stay by our house during the summer. My parents are going on a retreat for the professors and their spouses, and I'm sure that my sister's will be okay if I have a friend over." Misaki told her, "That way you don't have to worry about where you're going to be going."

"Really?" Kozue smiled, suddenly. Misaki would offer that? It'd been - it'd been a while since she'd been asked to stay at a female friend's house over the summer, or over another break... they'd kind of stopped asking, she realized, although she couldn't recall quite when. It might have had something to do with the number of times she'd turned them down because of a boy - or canceled, or snuck out to see someone.

"If I need to - I'd love to, it would be fun. It's better than slogging out to the old house," she said. "I really appreciate your generosity in offering."

"No problem Kozue-chan, there are just a few rules," Misaki explained quickly as they went out of the school and miskai ticked off her fingers. "One is that my sister wants us to eat dinner at the house. It's just to make sure we're all at home at a time and know where we're going to be going out. Two, you're going to have to stay in my room, if that's okay. Three is that you have to be home by at the very latest one in the morning. Oh and not to go in my dad's study or my mom's office, and that's about it."

With a laugh, Kozue responded, "I'm sure I can obey all those, but you don't need to tell me now. After all, I live in the dorms, and the rules are about as strict, if not more so."

"So when are you going to make the dress? Should I block time off to help with the fitting and... well, whatever else I need to help with?" She asked; she was still enthusiastic, imagining how cute it would look on her. Maybe it'd be done in time for Kiriko's birthday party... maybe not, but she could hope. Because she did need an outfit for that.

"I've noticed, when I go to see Toru-kun they're very by the book," Misaki said with a smile. She thought for a moment, "Well I will need you to come over some of the time, or I could come over to the dorm. Either way, it should be fun. And um...I will need help customizing it for you. Like making it so that it's one of a kind."

Misaki glanced around as they walked, "Oh so tell me about this snack place."
