WHO: Toru, Keiichi, Kanaye. Oh dear
WHAT: Discussion of a wide variety of subjects.
WHERE: Devil Torte, the dessert-focused Maid Cafe
WHEN: Friday, post trip.
WHY: Because it's going to be funny. I promise.

Backpack still slung over his shoulder, Keiichi stepped off the train and walked hurriedly through the stations of one of the smaller towns surrounding Iburi. He'd received a text from Toru that he could meet today, and an address to go to. The otaku's time out in the open was rare, Keiichi figured, and the other boy had seemed insistent.

Not that Keiichi cared. It gave him a reason to forget about the likely fact that he'd seen a Shadow outside of Paradise and not even known it.

Thankfully, the destination didn't seem to be too far from the station, and Keiichi walked the few streets until he came to the address.

"This seems to be the place," he mused, looking up at the building, and instantly turning several shades of red.

He can't be serious. Can he?

The words "DEVIL TORTE" loomed large over the building, and a woman stood at the door to the establishment dressed in an outfit that was one part French maid and two parts provocative. "This...isn't what I think it is, isn't it?"

"Yeah, the girls in my class... they're pretty good looking. I know what you mean, and that reminds me, I've got something to ask you- wait what." He backpedaled a few words. "A thing? For Reizo? That can't possibly... I mean, I'm not into... maybe he was just jealous... I hate him, anyway!" He stumbled over words as his mind attempted to catch up with his mouth, failing on a grand level. As this decidedly incriminating battle between Toru's speech, thoughts, and subconscious raged, he noticed something distinctly blond out of the corner of his eye. He looked. It was Kanaye, or so it seemed. Toru nudged Keiichi with an elbow.

"Hey. Sempai. Isn't that Satou-sempai over there? Should we say something?"

Cocking his eyebrow at Toru, he realized he'd offended the other boy. Understandably so, too. "Don't worry, Ishinomori-san," Keiichi managed. "Most of us hate him too. It's a nice club."

Oh, no.

It *was* Satou-senpai. And there was no way in Hell Kanaye was going to let him live this down. Ever. In a million years.

"I guess we can, if you want," Keiichi replied, non-commitedly. "He just...would probably make fun of me."

He looked away from Keiichi, unable to make eye contact for reasons he wasn't certain of. Oh, right. He was blushing. "I don't blame you guys... he's an asshole. But... I guess we still have to work with him, since he's... y'know, one of us."

When Toru heard Keiichi say that, he completely missed some fundamental part of the emotions carried behind it. He, in fact, assumed the last statement was sarcasm. Turning in his seat, he called out to Kanaye.

"Hello, Satou-sempai! What're you doing here?" he said, ignoring Keiichi's marked lack of enthusiasm.

Dammit. He wanted to hear them say something stupid and/or embarrassing. Oh well. The fact that they're in this place is blackmail enough! he thought deviously. Well, maybe not blackmail, but Keiichi was right. Kanaye is never gonna let him live it down.

He turned and gasped in faux surprise. "Why, Torukun! What a nice surprise!" he said. He turned his head to Toru's tablemate and blinked. "Keikun as well? That's a shock. I never knew you were into this sort of thing!" he said before he brought his chair over and sat down at their table in a way that screamed "I'm not going to move." "Yaknow, if you guys like these places, I can give recommendations! I'm quite a fan of cosplay cafes, yaknow. I could probably write a book about them!" Kanaye laughed. This was gonna be fun.

I hate the world. I really, really do sometimes.

"Oh, hello, Satou-senpai," Keiichi said, greeting the boy with a nod. "Fancy running into you here."

Regrettably, it seemed that Kanaye was going to join them. "I'm, err, not into this sort of thing," he began trying to explain. "Ishinomori-san and I needed to talk, and this is where he recommended..."

Throwing up his hands, Ito-san finally went with perhaps the lamest excuse possible. "I heard they have good desserts here!"

Toru smiled at Kanaye, still ignoring Keiichi's obvious discomfort. "Nice to see you, Satou-sempai! I didn't know that you came here, too... well, I didn't even know you liked cosplay cafes!" This was a fairly safe way to drive the conversation far, far away from the topic of Reizo.

"As he said, we're here to talk. It's sort of a halfway-point for our interests, so, a good meeting place. I suppose you can join us!" With any luck, Kanaye would be helpful at clarifying what else had happened in his dungeon. "Ito-kun was just telling me about what happened in... that place."

Kanaye just smiled deviously at the two. Turning his attention to Keiichi, he chuckled. "Oh? So you like the delicately decorated, adorable looking, feminine desserts? Why, Keiichi, I'm not surprised. You always did seem like a cake man." he said before chuckling again.

Stretching, Kanaye smiled at Toru. "Really? I'm surprised you're not surprised. I like maids! I like almost all girls, but maids have a special space in my heart." he said wistfully while staring into space. Snapping back to reality at Toru's next comment, he smirked. "Ah, that? That was kind of weird, yes. I liked it though. I would've liked it more were they more girls there," he said, pausing a bit to stare at a particularly cute waitress before continuing. "But you should probably count your blessings that Misachan wasn't there. If she was, you would have Maeko after you faster then you could say 'Cool Ship'."

Keiichi cocked an eyebrow at his senpai. "I like all sorts of desserts, Satou-senpai," he replied, tersely. Terseness was rapidly becoming his favorite day to deal with Nanakamado's resident perv.

Considering, though, he was at a maid cafe with Kanaye and Toru, a.k.a. the mind behind Voice-san, Keiichi had to wonder if he was up there on the perversion scale.

"Cool ship," Keiichi asked, as Kanaye talked to Toru. "What's that?"

Toru finally sat up straight in his seat, facing Kanaye. "You have good taste, then. Maids are practically a cultural institution!" Were they not, there would have likely been no reason for Toru to choose this particular venue to visit.

"I... oh god, yeah, Maeko's a bit dangerous, isn't she? If Aoi-chan had been there, I guess the damage done to... him would've been a lot worse. But wouldn't that have been a good thing? Ugh..." He facepalmed a little. "But, that reminds me. I have a favor to ask of you two."

Kanaye almost laughed in Keiichi's face. "You didn't even know what cool ship is? You needs to get on the internet more." he said, chuckling. Kanaye then say up straight in his seat, cleared his throat, and began to speak. "Ok, there was this anime, Work Weeks, right? Well, in it, the main character banged his girlfriend. However, he then banged another girl and got her pregnant. The first girl went crazy and killed the two. However, a few days before that episode was to be shown, a girl killed her father with an axe. They took Work Weeks off the air and replaced it with a documentary on ships. It was a very cool ship, so the people on the internet started referencing that whenever it came to yandere behavior." he said as he nodded sagely.

He proceeded to whip around to Toru and nodding ferociously. "YES! Someone else finally understands the awesomeness of maids!" Kanaye said ecstatically, almost crying tears of joy. "Father doesn't understand why maids are so awesome! I'm surrounded by them and none of them are interested in me. It sucks SO much..." he said bitterly as he pouted.

He shook his head at Toru's next comment. "Maeko is a bit dangerous in the way that I'm slightly stupid. And Toru, I think that Maeko really wouldn't care if it was you or your shadow she hurt." Puzzled, Kanaye cocked his head to the side. "A favor? What?"

Sometimes, Keiichi wondered if Kanaye was bipolar. This time, it was because of how fast he went from telling his tale of anime meeting real life to his affection for maids.

"Um, Kanaye, that's not how it works in real life--" he began, before deciding that it was better to just let the boy continue onwards.

Keiichi didn't quite believe Maeko was dangerous. Slightly out of her mind? Maybe. Overprotective of Misaki? Definitely.

"Do you really think Maeko's that dangerous," Keiichi asked Kanaye, before turning to face Toru. "And what do you need?"

Toru laughed slightly at Kanaye's retelling of the origin of Cool Ship. It was... accurate. "Exactly as Satou-sempai said, though I don't think I'd put it so... roughly. And what? You have maids at your house? Lucky. How rich are you, anyway, Satou-san?" he said, jokingly. Somehow, his shy tendencies were eroding away in this environment, or at least for the time being.

"Well, you know how Maeko is... about Misaki. That's what scares me. Because, Misaki is... w-well, she... Ithinkshemightbeinterestedinme." This last part was blurted out at the velocity of a speeding bullet, shooting whatever confidence that had arisen from Toru straight in the heart. "A-and... well, I'm afraid that her fanclub will hurt me if we get too close. E-especially Maeko. Er..." His voice quieted down, to nearly a whisper. "I'm just not interested in her. C-could you two possibly... I-I dunno, try to take her off my hands? I mean... I don't want to sound rude or weird or anything, but she deserves better! L-like you guys!" There, he had said it. It was finally off his chest.

Kanaye nodded grimly. "Not THAT dangerous, but she's about as dangerous as the rest of us. That axe is sca-ry." he said, whistling on the last word. "It's never gonna hit, but still..."

Kanaye sighed in depression at Toru's first question. "Yeah, but they're all gay or asexual. Dad hired them so I wouldn't try to hit on them after I've found out...Dammit, it sucks!" he said angrily, standing up for emphasis. He was about to go into a rant when he realized that the waitresses were starting at him, and not in a good way. He just sat down and laughed nervously. "I-I mean it was very mean of him." Kanaye finished lamely.

And then stared. And stared. And stared some more. He was good at staring, but usually, he doesn't stare at guys. But Toru was a special case. "You're complaining about the fact that one of the hottest girls in school likes you? You really ARE gay!" he whispered, shocked. "I can see what you mean about Maeko and the fanclub, but..." he conceded while scratching the back of his head. "They won't kill you. Maybe just maim you a little. And hey, look on the bright side! It'll get them all over you!" he said, chuckling.

Shaking his head, he continued. "No, no, no. I'm not getting her off you're back, Torukun. She probably wouldn't do anything if I tried. Keiichi would be a better choice. He already did kiss her, after all."

Keiichi was busy formulating a reply to Toru. He had been just about to launch into an impressive speech of encouragement when he heard Kanaye's final comment.

Palm, meet forehead.

Panicked eyes darted back and forth between Kanaye and Toru before finally settling on Kanaye and hissing "How do you know that?" in a nervous whisper.

Operation: Freak out Keiichi was a smashing success. Kanaye really should write a book on the subject. It'd be a best seller.

After thinking about the title for a bit and coming up with nothing, Kanaye just stared at Keiichi and smiled deviously. "After the King's Game, remember? She brought me into the woods? We got to talking, and then arguing. Well, technically..." he said, coughing before continuing. "She kissed me as well, but it was more of a 'I'm irritated with you so I'll kiss you' kind of deal. Not really romantic. I asked if she had practice, and she said yes, with you. Great job on that, by the way." Kanaye said with a thumbs up. "I couldn't get that far if I tried."

Somehow, Keiichi wasn't really surprised. If nothing else, it confirmed that the kiss he and Misaki had shared *had* been solely for the purposes of their friendship...strange as that concept was.

"You manage to get yourself into the strangest situations, you know that," was all he said, before turning to Toru. "If she likes you, Ishinomori-san, you can't let Akuba-san intimidate you. She's a wonderful girl, Aoi-san is." Keiichi nudged Toru in the ribs. "An otaku's dream, aye? You can't give up just like that! This is your chance to achieve your dreams!"

Unlike Kanaye, his exclamations were whispered so as not to attract attention. "If it makes you feel better, though, I'll take care of Maeko for you."

Toru returned his face to its previous position on the table. He groaned audibly. This was exactly what he didn't want.

"No, no, no, you don't get it... I'm serious. I don't want Misaki. She's..." He searched for the best way to articulate his feelings. "Not... my type. It's not that I'm gay, seriously, Kanaye. I just... she's not the kind of girl I like. My type is more... not her?" He somehow slumped even further in his seat. "I don't even know how to say it right. The point is, it's not a dream come true. I don't want to get torn to pieces over a girl I'm not even interested in. That you both have kissed."

He made a vague gesture with a hand. "Don't you guys see an opportunity here? I'm telling you two to try to win Misaki over. I know you can do it."

Kanaye raised an eyebrow. "Well then, what IS your type?" he asked. This was undoubtedly the most important question on his mind. "Just tell you are not interested. For someone like her, that should be enough." he said.

Kanaye sighed. "I'm, honestly, not that interested in her. Yeah, she's cute, and nice. But she's too naive to do anything with her. I'd make a pass and she would take it completely seriously. I'd take someone similar, just not that naive."

Toru blushed, though it was hard to see, considering the position of his face on the table. "My type? If you really want to know... I guess I'd say girls like the nurse... Hana-san? I think that's her name. She's my type..." It wasn't a lie. "I'd tell Misaki that I'm not interested, but... doesn't it seem like it'd hurt her? She's... really sensitive."

He made an irritated noise. "Well, if you don't want her, Satou-sempai, and I'm shocked that you don't... what about you, Keiichi-kun?"

Keiichi regarded Toru with a nod. "If it was up to me that would be fine, but it's not." Deep breath in, deep breath out. "She's my second in command in the Cooking Club. I'm her senpai. That's all I'll ever be."

He had come to that conclusion over the course of the year. Besides, he was past that now. Mostly, anyway. Not that he'd tell them why.

"This is an unexpected development, I must admit. I figured you'd be all over an opportunity like this."

Kanaye sighed. This was going to be a long couple of minutes. "I know it's surprising, but I'm trying to cut back on the rampart flirting. Or at least serious flirting. Playful flirting, I'm fine with. There is a key difference." he said sagely. "I'm actually going after a girl now. Just one girl, and I don't think she'll be happy if I keep up my ways."

Kanaye, after one girl? THIS NEVER HAPPENS.

Still, Keiichi was pretty sure that Satou-senpai was after Shiori. If so, that would ideally make his life easier. If Shiori liked him, it meant that he wouldn't have to feel guilty about not liking her. Sure, she was nice, and cute, but the drawing thing IN PARADISE was a bit worrying.

"I actually meant Toru, but Hell, you too," Keiichi admitted. "You learn something new everyday. Figures, you two don't want her and she's not interested in me. Life's...crappy like that sometimes."

Toru looked to both of the other guys and laughed. "This is just great. I run into the two guys who're most likely to be willing to take Misaki off my hands, and neither of them want her! Wow, today's just... special. Heh, I shouldn't go out this often." He lifted up his menu and began to peruse it.

"Ugh. Anyways, let's move on. this is getting nowhere."

Kanaye nodded. "Yes. So, what are you two having?" he asked as he looked over the menu.

"You don't have to do that, Satou-senpai," Keiichi stated, face going red and pale at the same time. "Really."

Change the subject. Onto cakes. As fast as possible.

"I think I'm going to have their signature Devil Torte," Keiichi said, reading from the menu. "Dark chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and a liquid chocolate center, served warm with vanilla ice cream...by one of our Devil Maids." Ito paused, his face assuming the look that said he was about to ask a question he might not want to know the answer to.

"What exactly is a Devil Maid?"

Toru intently looked over his menu. "I think I'm just going to get strawberry shortcake. And... Keiichi-kun? I think it's best if you just wait to find out who the Devil Maids are. It'll be more fun that way." He smirked a little bit, and sat back in his chair, waiting for the waitress to return.

Keiichi did not like the Toru smirk. He might have even liked it less than Kanaye's version.

It was too late, however, as the waitress had arrived already, bowing to them.

Swallowing hard, Keiichi looked up at her, and managed a "I'll have the Devil Torte, please."

Toru smiled at the waitress, hardly even looking at her.

"Absolutely nothing, really." Kanaye said as the waitress left. "Still don't have a girlfriend, but I am trying." Kanaye gasped as he thought of a wonderful idea.

Smiling deviously, he turned to his tablemates. "You can probably guess what I'm going to ask. Which girls, or guys" he nodded to Toru. "do you like?"

Toru cringed when Kanaye added 'guys' to his statement, and gave his sempai a nearly-scathing glance.

"I told you, I don't like guys!" He paused awkwardly. "That being said, I'm not really... interested in anyone right now. Y-you probably remember what he said... I have trouble finding real people attractive now. I'm working on it," (a knowing wink here), "but as it stands, I'm don't 'like' anyone, especially not at our school."

Keiichi sighed at the older student. "If you think I'm telling you who I'm after, Satou-senpai, you are out of your mind..."

He leaned back in his chair, hoping that the Devil Torte would be good. Keiichi was quite hungry. Besides, maybe dessert would keep Satou-senpai shut up.

Kanaye pouted. Curses, foiled again. Ah well. "Keikun, I'd have thought that me being out of my mind was obvious. Guess I'm not trying hard enough then." he said, sighing.

Looking at his watch, he tapped it while asking "When is the food going to get here?"

Toru leaned back in his chair and sighed, glad that Kanaye and Keiichi had moved off the topic of his nonexistent and frankly embarrassing love life. As he stared off into the distance, he saw a maid in a particular costume approaching, carrying what appeared to be three desserts. He grinned and pointed.

"Hey, sempais. Looks like the food's on it's way now."
