Who: Noriko and Kouchisei.
What: Nicotine patches.
Where: A health store. Somehow.
When: Day one of the trip.
Why: Kouchisei said he'd buy them. Who's Noriko to turn that down?

Noriko stood outside the hotel, her gaze wandering down the street toward the tiny little health store on the corner. She was sure, amongst the every day items that were needed for those who had forgotten them, that they would have nicotine patches though she couldn't say for sure. It would be amusing if they didn't because then she wouldn't have to use them. Or pretend to use them. Or whatever.

Ever the caring girl, however, she was debating on using them... just to see what would happen. She had heard rumors about the nicotine patches, though. Such as some didn't work, others gave rashes, and some gave you cancer. But, then again, everything seemed to be bad for you nowadays. Not that Noriko cared, she'd do whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted. She didn't really care for the consequence of her deed, no matter how far away it would be in the future.

Shifting her weight, she continued to wait patiently for Kouchisei, fingers playing with the strap of her bag out of boredom.

Kouchisei was easily annoyed when confronted by the stench of cigarette smoke. Tar. Burning paper. Sickening black soot that littered pavements, and a tan-coloured butt that was ground there with a heel. He held his breathing and stood still, hands motionless by his sides. He hadn't thought of anything saying why he wanted to help. There would be no argument that he'd be as willing to do it again. He was looking over his shoulder, wanting a way out.

Being here with a stranger made him nervous. Was it the right thing? What was she like? Was it possible she'd tear it off once he'd gone?

He gave a somewhat wry smile, knowing his reason. He didn't think this stranger would let it get back to the old man.

"I want to be a doctor. Seeing people make themselves ill... doesn't make me feel good."

She watched him quietly, brown eyes shielded, as she raised a brow curiously. He looked as if he were uncomfortable, like he was desperate to leave. She supposed he was either not good with women or just not good with people in general. Or, perhaps, she was an intimidating person without even realizing it.

...Nah, it couldn't possibly be that.

"A doctor?" she repeated. "That'd be an excellent profession for you then, I suppose. But I don't really peg you as a people person. You know, it's kinda in your posture." she shifted her bag over to her other shoulder.

Breathing slowly, feeling his chest rise and fall, Kouchisei stayed quiet. He had been intimidated and awed. Noriko was a woman who carried herself well.

He watched her shift her luggage - she seemed bored.

"Hmph. That's a problem. I solve them." He pulled tight on the coat collar around his neck. "... Are you done?"

"A problem solver too, mm? Good luck to you, then. People are very odd things." Noriko gave a soft bemused smile before shrugging.

"Oh, I suppose," she waved an airy hand, quirking a brow as she looked at his collar for a moment, the amused little smile still on her lips before she shifted her gaze back onto him. "Wouldn't want to make you have an anxiety attack or anything."

He stiffened visibly, stopped his moving fingers, and looked at Noriko with a blank expression. The sounds of life - people, cars, and birds - he couldn't hear; what was he doing, again?

"Huh? ... No."

Slowly they were coming back. Voices and footsteps. He shook his head, appearing dizzy.

"Well. Suppose I should get a move on. I'm assuming you'll put them to good use. Please don't prove me wrong."

If she were truly the kind of person to show that she cared about people, she would have asked if he was alright or maybe offered to take him somewhere to sit and get a nice cup of water.

Instead, she decided to say nothing, unsure if he would have another reaction like that again or not. She really did not want him to freak out on her, that meant having to do things. And she was not good at doing things.

"Well, I'm Noriko, by the by," she gave a small nod. "Thanks again." she turned and started back toward the hotel, fingers drumming against the strap of her canvas bag as she did so.
