Because Misaki needs to have something to eat from someone else.
Who: Misaki and Keiichi
What: Dinner
Where: Sky park
When: After school at the park after Toru's dungeon
Why: Because these two need to talk.

Misaki set up the blanket in the middle of the park. She wondered why Keiichi had asked her there in the first place. It wasn't like he couldn't talk to her in the school. But being the person that she was, Misaki happily agreed to meet him here for dinner. She pulled up her hair into the pigtails that she wanted to try out and sat down. Thoughts were running though her mind about what had happened in the dungeon. She had been a nip jealous of the kiss, but that was neither here nor there. It wasn't so much the who was doing it it was the fact that it had happened.

Then there was the issue of Tom. What to do about him. As far as Misaki could tell he was easily freaked out when someone acted a certain way to him, which meant she could probably use it to keep him away from her friends when he started to ask to many questions. But now that he was a persona user...what did that mean exactly. Was he going to help them or...

She stopped thinking about it and laid down on the blanket in a curled up pose. Were this the story of the three bears, she would be seen as goldie locks. She was tired and not sure what to do, and feeling the warmth of the sun...it made her sleepy, so she rested there and fell off into dream land wondering if someone would wake her up when they stopped by.

He swallowed hard. Did she ALWAYS have to be adorable? He was used to it, yes...but somehow, his current frame of mind was making him even more susceptible to Cute Misaki than he usually was.

Reaching into the picnic basket, he also pulled out the Tungsten Chef fan book, placing it down alongside her. "Here you go. You wanted to look through it, right?"

"It's been a while since we've really gotten to talk." He seemed a bit sad at that fact. "I know you've been busy with Flower Arranging Club, and we've been running around trying to save people. Thought we could do with some us time."

That...sounded slightly more possessive than he really wanted it to. What the Hell had happened to his ability to communicate with people?"

Misaki gasped then gave Keiichi a big hug, "Thank you Sempai! This was really sweet of you to let me look at this. I'll be there are some amazing recipes in here."

She giggled and started to flip through it then paused, "Us time...? Well I guess. But you know where to find me and I'm always willing to chat."

Misaki looked at him, "Sempai...you're a guy right. I mean... I know you're a boy but, like...well I wanted to know a few things? Do you think you could answer it for me?"

Before he quite knew what was happening, he was being hugged by a happy cloud of pink. She was soft, and warm, and -- goddamnit all, he was thinking in poetry.

"It's nothing, really," Keiichi flushed. "We're good friends. That's what friends do. Take all the time you need with it!"

He was just starting to calm down when she looked him dead in the eyes, and began to ask him questions.

It took most of his willpower to not freeze, or wilt. This had the potential to be absolute disaster, but what could he do but answer? He wasn't sure where she was going with this, but he would find out.

Damn the torpedoes. Full speed ahead.

"Of course, Mi-chan," he replied. "Go ahead and ask, and I'll answer as best I can."

"Well I was just wondering what was it like when Kozue-chan kissed you? I mean considering that you're going out with Shiori-chan, she couldn't have been too happy about that, though it was the dungeon, but still..." Misaki asked him. "See I"ve never kissed anyone before and I was wondering what it's like. I keep reading in cooking books that certain foods taste like a kiss, but I don't really know. So I'm derfering to you, since you seemed to know what you're doing."

...was there something being distributed in the water of Iburi lately that was inspiring everyone to try and kill Keiichi?

His expression was something akin to a deer in the headlights for several long moments while he attempted to process everything that she had said. He had no idea what the Hell to say at first. Somehow, though, the fact that she'd said something that was incorrect

"Um, Misaki, Shiori-chan and I aren't dating..." He wondered at first why she'd even thought that at first, though he imagined that someone had seen the two of them going for ramen or on the train one day and started spreading rumors. "We're friends. Good friends, but friends. As for the second half of your question..."

How the Hell did he describe this. It wasn't like he had worldly experience in kissing, and -- wait. MISAKI had never been kissed? How was that POSSIBLE? She only had a willing fan club harem who would have been all too happy to correct that.

And he thought PARADISE made no sense.

"It was...nice? Soft? I don't know, it's sort of difficult for me to describe." Maybe she would understand the slight bit of despair that he felt. It wasn't that it hadn't been nice. Far from it, just...

"It was also my first. Not exactly the story I always imagined having surrounding it..."

"Really? But you look so cute together. She's a wonderful person, that's why I felt bad when you kissed Kozue-chan. I thought that maybe it would hurt Shiori-chan's feelings. You know she really likes food, and I'll bet you two have a lot of things in common," Misaki felt bad. Maybe they broke up after the kiss. "I'm sure you two can make up some time. I mean...it didn't mean anything right? What you and Kozue chan did? Did it?"

Misaki smiled some hearing the disription, "Really? Wow, it sounds that way. Oh I'm sorry about that Keiichi-sempai, um...what did you imagine happening?" She thought a moment. "Well you could always kiss me and maybe that might help."

"She and I aren't angry at each other." He was focusing on this line of the conversation for a very good reason. "We're going to get ramen again sometime this week and talk like we usually do."

Pondering the question she'd asked, he at the very least knew that answer. "No, it didn't." Whether or not he *wanted* it to was another story. "She just...knew what Voice-san wanted better than I did. I haven't played many of that sort of game. And it got us back part of the room, so..."

Well. With that out of the way, now he had to deal with the part of the conversation that almost made him pass out on the blanket.

"Are you...really offering," he finally asked, after moments of hesitation. Keiichi was lots of things, nervous, slightly afraid -- but he was also unattached. He could do this without much collateral damage, save to his own already confused mind, but there was probably no saving that at this point. "If you are...I mean, do *you* want to?"

Misaki smiled some, "Well that's good because I think Shiori-chan likes you. She always seems really happy when you're around Keiichi-sempai."

The younger girl looked a bit suprised, "Oh, you haven't I can lend you some that I have. They're a lot of fun. Wonder why Kozue-chan knew better, I would think someone older like you would know Sempai. But you're right it did."

Misaki blinked, blushed and smiled, "Well if you want to, if it will help you out. You seemed really weird after it though, so I don't want you to feel like that. But if it doesn't mean anything, If you want to, you can if you'd like."

She smiled in a cheerful way.

"I don't know about that," Keiichi replied. "We get along pretty well, but we're quite different people." To say nothing of her habit of taking her sketchbook into Paradise and...drawing things. Like it was a pleasure cruise.

"I'll be fine without them, Mi-chan," he said, quickly. "Between homework and cooking, I don't have so much time for video games anymore.

There it was, that smile. That damned smile. How the Hell was he supposed to resist this?

...not easily, really. But something was bothering him, and it was mostly in the way she kept talking about the act. 'If you want to'. 'If you'd like.' She'd completely avoided answering his question.

The realization made him feel...better, somehow. "I appreciate the thought, Misaki," he replied, "but you didn't answer my question. I asked if you wanted to. Kissing's not something that happens when only one of the people involved wants to. That's not the way it works. Well, outside of date-sim games lorded over by perverted, voyeuristic tentacle monsters, anyway."

He waited for an answer. He hoped that it was a good answer.

Keiichi, though, was unsure whether 'good answer' meant the two of them changing the subject or a reply that would let him kiss her with a clearer conscience.

"Well I suppose it would be interesting to try. So...um...lets see...Kozue just sort of closed her eyes like this and put out her lips right?" Misaki closed her eyes and waited.

"Is this right Sempai?"

She figured, it didn't mean anything when Kozue kissed Keiichi-sempai, so to her it wasn't that big a deal. THey were friends and friends helped friends, and since he'd been feeling weird about the whole monster thing with Toru, she thought this would be something nice to do for him.

Keiichi swallowed. Hard. Her eyes were closed and she was clearly expectant. If he didn't do it now, odds were she'd be offended. If he did...

The epic battle was over.

Leaning close to her, he didn't answer her question vocally. His slender arms wrapped around her, holding her close to him. She was just as soft as she'd been when she'd hugged him. Before he lost his nerve, Keiichi brushed his lips against hers, the touch feather-light, but it still sent sparks of...something shooting up his spine.

The kiss itself lasted barely a second, but for some reason, he couldn't bring himself to let go of her. "That's, err, sort of how it goes," Keiichi managed. "Theoretically, at least. I don't have so much experience at this..."

Misaki smiled gently, the kiss had been sweet, it was barely there and she wasn't sure why he was holding her in this way, but she figured that it was okay. He was her friend and she gave him a light kiss back.

"Well that's okay and thank you for that. It was very nice," she smiled and laughed, "That was fun. Oh the foods going to get cold. I think I learned something today. I'll try to remember this."

Once, he would have been crushed if her reaction after he kissed her was so blase. Really, he couldn't explain why he wasn't. He liked her. He always had. Probably always would.

Maybe it was the way it had been brought up. Just a kiss between friends. Innocent. His arms unwrapped from around her, and he reached for the picnic basket. "It's okay. It's picnic food. It's meant to be eaten cold, or at least, it doesn't have to be eaten hot."

As he unpacked the fried chicken, he offered her a shrug. "No worries, Misaki. Glad I could be of assistance."

Keiichi didn't understand a whole Hell of a lot right now, save that Paradise had changed his entire life. Some ways seemed to be for the better. Other ways seemed to be for the worse.

He didn't quite know where to file today's activity.

Misaki gave him a tight hug, "You know...I hope that you'll always be here for me Sempai! I really do like you. You're fun to be with."

Misaki snuggled him and just rested her head on his arm. If anyone walked by now they would certainly think that they were a couple.

...and now, she was snuggling with him? Sometimes, Keiichi doubted he'd ever figure Misaki out. He could add that to the long list of such things in his life.

"I will always be here for you," he replied, patting her shoulder reassuringly. She was always affectionate; this was no different, but then, why did it FEEL any different? It was pretty obvious that she saw him as a friend; her reaction to the kiss was pretty clear evidence of that.

He didn't dwell on that, though. She was soft, and it was a nice day out.

Better to just enjoy the nice days, because the not-so-nice ones were coming with increasing frequency.

Happy with the reassurence Misaki let him go and quickly asked, "What did you make of Toru-kun's world Sempai? I mean it was rather odd that he...Sempai...are you alright?"

Pouting some Misaki looked at him and touched his shoulder, "Sempai?"

"I'm fine, Mi-chan." It was mostly true, anyway.

He felt...some bizarre mixture of guilty and upset. But that could be dealt with later. "Toru-kun's world was...odd. Well, I guess considering that he likes games, not that out, but..."

Keiichi paused for a moment, trying to explain the best way to say the following. "It seemed to have a much greater effect on everyone, you know?

"Yes I noticed, Keiichi-sempai. Do you think the more we go there the more we're going to change? I'm starting to worry that..." Misaki shook her head. She didn't need to make him worry about her. Smiling brightly she started to dish out the food.

"Well it's nothing, to us Sempai," she grinned and gave him one of the bottles of water.

Keiichi cocked an eyebrow at her. He knew she was changing the subject. Primarily because it sounded a whole Hell of a lot like when *he* changed the subject.

"What is it, Mi-chan? What are you worried about?" It was somewhat refreshing, he had to admit, that someone else around here worried about SOMETHING related to that place.

He took the bottle and toasted to them, but he was still waiting for an answer.

Misaki looked down on the grass. She could trust him right? He was her mentor and sempai, and he probably wouldn't tell anyone. She rubbed her shoulder some as she spoke, "Well...you see..."

Bitting her lip Misaki looked up, trying to figure out the words, "Ever since we've been going there I feel like I've been...not my self I guess. I've been more, irritated, and I get annoyed with people. I don't like it Sempai. I really really don't."

"I think it's happening to all of us, to some extent," he replied, trying to console her as best he could with that fact. "There's a lot of stress in that place, and a lot of us are struggling to get along with people we wouldn't have to otherwise. Maeko and Kanaye are always at each other's throats, for example."

Really, he didn't know which side he'd support in *that* particular battle.

He leaned in close and gave her another hug, this one lighter, meant to be comforting. "We're doing the best we can, you and I. You're very important to the group with your healing, and probably more importantly, you get along with everyone."

Much more than he could say about some of the others.

"Get along with the others..." Misaki said quietly. It was true, she was able to key into what people tended to like and become a bit of that so they wouldn't ignore her, but that and actually getting along with her were two very different things.

Resting her head on his shoulder Misaki sighed, "Maeko-chan just doesn't want to see me hurt...I don't know why that is, she just doesn't. And Satou-sempai...as much as he acts like he's a flirt, I don't think he's really ever had anyone that he really honestly felt very interested in. I think he does like Maeko-chan, they just don't see one another the same way. She only sees him being a flirt and he only see's her as being protective and both can't seem to understand that that's not how they really are."

Misaki smiled cheerfully at him, "That's why I like you Sempai, I can tell when you're being really you and you normally don't pretend to be something else. Which is why so many people like you."

It was...nice to cuddle with her. She was comforting to hold, just as her personality was comforting. He really just hoped Maeko didn't show up, because this would be difficult to explain to her.

"I'd...be inclined to agree with you on Satou-senpai," he admitted. "The problem is, both he and Maeko act the way they do. What they actually are isn't so important when they act a certain way. Maeko is..." Keiichi searched for the words, sighing softly at the admittedly pleasant feeling of the younger girl's head against his neck and shoulder.

"Look at it this way," he finally managed. "I try to be protective and comforting for you. But there's a difference between the way I act and the way Maeko acts, and you know that..."

There was also a difference between the way he acted and the way Kanaye acted, Keiichi noted to himself.

Keiichi's teeth gritted momentarily. "Let me try this," he began, wondering if he could logic his way through this. "Suppose you and I were dating, and I protected you the same way Maeko protects you. Wouldn't that not be right, Mi-chan? Wouldn't it be smothering and too much?"

...he really needed better hypotheticals.

"It's the same thing. You two are friends, and that's wonderful, but she doesn't give you any space..."

"Ah...well, if you and I were dating, um, you'd be acting the same way that you act now. But...well, maybe a little, but I wouldn't mind it. I mean, if you love me, that's what matters right? And you wouldn't be hurting me, because I like to spend time with you." Misaki smiled, she knew what he was getting at, but she didn't want to see Maeko that way.

Misaki looked down some, "Keiichi-sempai...when I was younger I...I had a lot of trouble in middle school, and really Maeko-chan used to come and help me out. So...I don't really mind it when she tries to help me. I know she's only doing it for me because she cares about me and doesn't want me to go through what I went through in middle school that's all."

Keiichi listened quietly to his friend, patting her lightly on the shoulder. "I'm glad she was there to help you. Mi-chan," he replied, smiling back at her. "I just worry. Regardless of how Akuba-san means to be..."

He had to watch his words carefully. "Sometimes, she comes off a little too strong, you know? It's fine to be protective. I'm sure she doesn't mean anything by it, but..."

The last thing he needed was a Maeko on the warpath, whether it be in school, or worse, Paradise.

What he made of the entire situation was a long story and entirely too much to be said at a pleasant picnic. "I'll tell you, I promise. When we're on the trip with everyone is probably a better time, though," Keiichi told her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "For now, let's just have fun?"
