WHO: Kou and Isao
WHAT: Ice cream time!
WHERE: Kigakiga
WHEN: In the afternoon, a few days after this
WHY: Kou needs to know what he's missing out on, man.

As he was just recruited into the Anti-Bullying Club and they had spent very little time together, he really didn't know the other members that well. Still, he had never been an unfriendly person. Even if their interactions would be limited for the most part, Isao thought it might be interesting to get to know some of them. Or at least try to. When he learned that Kouchisei had yet to visit the nearby ice cream joint, he figured it'd be nice to force him into going. It was very rare that Isao ever pulled the senpai card. He really didn't even feel like a third year compared to some of the younger students some days, but it always felt nice to use that sort of authority now and then.

That meant even more when the use of upper classman authority actually worked. He sat at the table happily eating his ice cream with the other boy. For himself he had chosen the lavender and shrimp flavors. Odd, but he was always willing to try anything once. It wasn't that bad. He looked up at Kou and smiled. "So, what do you think?"

Kou leaned over the table briefly to get a closer look at the counter; what he was looking at offended his senses of taste and sight. He took a quiet moment to look at the monstrosity that sat on his side. A dollop of brown soft-serve was melting at the bottom in a bed of pecans and some unidentified liquid.

"I don't know," he answered, poking his dessert with his spoon. The top of the scoop plummeted slowly into the bed of nuts.

Isao peered over at the ice cream in front of Kou. Most everything he had tried at the place was good, so he could probably give the other some reassuring words. "Well, it's got nuts. Nuts are always good. And that.... stuff," he raised an eyebrow, trying to remember if he had ever gotten that kind before. "What flavor is that, anyway?"

"Horseradish."

He put a portion of it into his mouth. The sensation of it on his tongue was that it was solid and cold. One reason he had come to this place was his sense of duty. Second was a slight trace of curiosity. Now he wished he hadn't bothered.

"You didn't have to do this. Really."

"Sure I did." Isao nodded insistently, taking another bite of his own ice cream. "Trying new things is good for you, even if you think you won't like it." That's what he kept telling himself anyway. It didn't always turn out well for him, but it lead to plenty of good things as well in the past.

"Not that I would have recommended horseradish, but you have to keep an open mind sometimes."

A gesture towards his ice-cream was Kou's answer to that question. The habit of trying new things had gotten him into this situation, and admittedly it was better than what he'd expected.

Except he just didn't like ice-cream, he guessed. Maybe he just liked Isao's company. Though it was because he felt comfortable with their different roles, he thought.

"The trouble with that is people insist on putting things in it."

People putting things in ice cream or minds? Isao took a moment to carefully ponder both, but they each lead to the same answer. "Sometimes maybe, but it's better to say 'no' after the fact than shut out something immediately." Even if it wasn't always wise, he liked that for himself at least. He looked back at Kou's ice cream.

"Well, usually," he laughed, holding out his own bowl to the other. "Here, try the lavender. It's kind of bitter, but it's mild."

Kou shook his head. For emphasis, he outstretched his pal and repeated his headshaking enough that he was feeling quite dizzy.

He pushed his half-eaten bowl away.

Honestly, he just didn't know how to say he didn't like ice-cream. The texture, the condiments... some of the flavours.

"I don't eat much. That's more than enough for me. Sorry."

Isao shrugged the notion off, not at all bothered by Kou's refusal. "More for me then." Okay, well, it was nice that his underclassman had at least made an attempt to go to the parlor with him. That was a plus, so he wasn't going to shove anything down his throat. He smiled curiously though, taking a bite of his ice cream himself.

"So what sort of things do you like?"

There was a long pause.

Then Kou shrugged at Isao. "Just a few things."

He proceeded to sip from his glass of ice-cold grape juice; they didn't know each other well enough for Isao to be needing more information than that. He glanced fleetingly at the older boy, his expression showing his curiosity. Why had he wanted to know, anyway?

"You'd just find them boring," he said, hoping to stop the subject.

Boring? Most people consider him boring, so it was rare for him to think of anyone else that way. Other than his teacher. But teachers hardly ever really count. Now if Kou was planning on becoming a teacher there might be a few yawns, but he'd do his best to stop himself. He didn't want to insult a fellow club member before actually getting to know him.

"Nah. I once watched a whole game of golf. Nothing is boring after that," he explained with a reassuring nod. "Besides, I mean food."

Kou didn't know enough about golf to comment. He didn't really find it interesting, nor most sport, so that was something he guessed they had in common. But food was something he could talk about.

"Oh." He took a moment to think. He was worried about boring his senior, but in turn he'd been asked a rather dreary question.

So he said, "Mostly anything that's a soup or a broth. Is there some reason you're asking?"

He shrugged, taking mental note of Kou's reply. "Well, I know what you don't like now, obviously. I figured I'd ask what you do like. What a person eats can say a lot about them, yeah?"

Actually, he wasn't sure about soups or broth without a specific kind, but not liking sweets said enough. It was just casual curiosity though, so he didn't spend too much time dwelling on it.

Kouchisei nodded. Yes, he thought. That was why he wasn't saying a whole lot. This visit had occured out of his sense of duty. He didn't really want to make friends with somebody.

"Some would say you're a mess by that logic, senpai."

His gaze lingered meaningfully over Isao's lavender-shrimp float.

Isao gave Kou a confused glance at first before looking to his own ice cream again and realizing what he meant. What his own food said about him had been the last thing on his mind, but he certainly couldn't deny it. He gave a light laugh and nodded.

"Yeah, that's about right," he admitted. "I'm always trying new things, but I guess it could mean I'm a little indecisive."

"It seems trying new things makes everyone a little indecisive."

Kou seemed a little lost. Between Isao's laidback attitude and his own reluctance to see Kigakiga as a backdrop for conversation, there wasn't much he could think of to talk about.

He looked at Isao's ice-cream - he knew he wouldn't try that.
