Who: Toru and Kou.
What: Social linking.
Where: The Oubai Residence.
When: Weekend, Sunday.
Why: Toru wants to do something.

In the morning, Kouchisei held open the gate in the fence, stood back to make room for the taller boy who had been invited and brought by car, and made a thankful gesture to his father. The car disappeared round the drive to park, and he gave a watchful look to the friend he had been worrying about bringing to his home for a long time.

Kou himself had been a little more sociable lately. Finding the resolve to make friends had changed that, and it had been hard, he knew, because he liked his own company. His home was on the far reaches of Iburi. Sheltered by trees and an old fence keeping with the environment, it was hard to tell that anything had colour - it had all been coated white by the snowfall. It was hard to see colour, and that made him contemplate how little people knew of what was close to his heart: his life and home and family.

Occupying himself, he looked around at the grounds. Seeing nothing to say, he went ahead and opened the door, retreating momentarily from the billowing heat. Inside, the house lacked a different kind of warmth. He was certainly not a homely person, and the way he moved like a spider seemed to show he was afraid of breaking something. Except he was comfortable, and everything inside his house was familiar.

Honestly? He was more wary of Toru being here, but it was too late to be worrying about that.

Toru couldn't help but feel some nervous trepidation at entering Kouchisei's house. He could count on one hand the number of times he'd actually visited the home of a classmate or teammate, and this was a significant addition to the tally.

Some part of him still didn't know why he'd come. It was very, very cold; the stone, the stone lanterns, Kou himself. It may have been a welcoming abode to he who lived there, but to Toru, it said "go away" rather loudly and clearly in the crisp air. Nevertheless, he strode behind Kouchisei as confidently as he could until he reached the door.

Warmth was a relief, and he took no time in darting into the entryway. Closing the door only came as an afterthought five seconds into his removal of his shoes. It wouldn't do to commit such an impolite act in his host's home, after all.

What a home it was, too. For all that it was sterile and austere, the opposite of Toru's magazine-and-game-box-strewn little dorm, it clearly spoke to an owner of wealth and good taste. Kou's dad, he concluded. A man of traditional decorations and polished wood floors, not lived-in spaces, befitting of the owner of a ryokan.

Shoes now safely removed and stowed away along with his coat, Toru stood up to follow Kou and almost immediately slipped and fell on the polished surface of the room's floor. He only just caught himself by the hand on one of the hooks of the coat rack.

"I-I, um... sorry! That's just my clumsiness there, my bad!"

He righted himself. "A-anyway, do you want to go up to your room, or to the living room, o-or what? It's really up to you, since you know this house-" at all "-better than I do."

When Toru stumbled, Kouchisei moved quickly and went to help his friend off the hooks. That wasn't something he'd expected he would be doing. He'd been distracted briefly; it wasn't the best thing in the world to be worrying about the house over helping somebody off the floor.

The realisation Toru had already lifted himself made him pause. His eyes moved to the metal rail; he sighed and checked it. Well, at least Toru wasn't breaking anything. Not yet.

About to enquire on Toru's health, he brought himself to a stop when asked where to go. Normally, he'd just spend time in the front room. Except Toru might feel self-conscious, he thought.

"Go to my room?" He wanted to make sure it was Toru's decision.

He'd seen the look on Toru's face when they'd come inside. It was like this house was alien and strange, and for as much as they were friends he knew they were two different people. He was sure his room would come over as strange, too. For all that it looked clean and normal, with furniture and decoration that matched the antiquity of his home, and objects that differed from what he knew Toru enjoyed. Medical textbooks, poetry, and he doubted Toru had the patience to prune flora.

"U-uh, sure? If it's okay with you..." Toru felt oddly touched by the fact that Kouchisei had stepped in to try and help him with his fall. Now that he was back on two feet and pointlessly dusting himself off, he began to move forward again with increased caution.

"Your house is very... well-decorated, senpai."

"Thanks."

He glanced around the room; there wasn't anything here in his room he could offer to pass the time. There was one thing in the house he knew Toru would enjoy, though. He didn't see the point on using the internet when there was a guest; he thought of it as a tool. Yet it might be something they could use together

"We've got wireless. Make yourself at home."

"Oh, you do?" Toru felt immediately guilty for his incredulity- of course Kou did, how else would he whine on everyone's school journals?

But in the spirit of being a polite guest, Toru had only brought along one of his handheld gaming systems, and no laptop. Minimal, but better than nothing.

"Thank you." He reached in his pocket to grab said handheld then sat down. He very nearly turned it on, but thought better of it at the last moment.

"...b-but, I don't want to exclude you. We could, er... we could have a conversation, or, um... your computer! Something on your computer!"

Kouchisei was somewhat unable to feel comfortable about somebody else using his desktop. What if he read too much about what was on it? To be honest, there were a few things on there he wanted to keep secret. He just never needed to password them because... well... it wasn't like his father didn't have a machine of his own.

He also knew Toru enjoyed computer games. His understanding of them was barely existant.

There was a shrug. If it was what Toru wanted, he had no problem.

"The most I use is Mahjong," he offered.
