Uh-oh, I think I'm in trouble.
Who: Tom, Kiriko
What: Kiriko confronts Tom on Kou's behalf.
Where: School library
When: The Day after Tom confronts Kouchisei
Why: ...Because Tom's a stalker.

Thomas sat in the library, He sat close to a corner, back to the wall. He sat silently, and as usual, held a book in his hands. This time the book was one on psychology. Every time he went to turn a page his eyes lifted from the book and scanned the room in front of him, just in case.

At the glance up on the first page, Tom might have noticed a tall, pretty, but rather impatient looking girl talking to some of the students and the receptionist on the other side of the library. Upon the second glance up, he may have seen her looking over in his direction, one of the students pointing approximately at him. By the third, he'd have seen her approaching like a thunderhead, her lips pressed into a furious, thin line.

"You. You're Sagaki?"

She shifted her weight to one side and planted a fist on the respective hip, frowning down at the boy in the chair while she waited for her answer.

He glanced up as she arrived, but apparently she was not worth breaking away in the middle of the page. He continued to read even as he made his response.

"You're lack of honorifics suggest either that you are angry, or we were once close friends.

Which means you are angry."

When he reached the end of his page, he put a marker in the book, but didn't close it. Then looked up at her.

"You may also call may also call me Thomas if you prefer."

Kiriko blinked. The anger seemed momentarily abated as she tried to figure out what the hell that meant. What was wrong with this kid, what kind of a reply was that? And why so weirdly formal? Maybe he was hitting on her? She decided to go with that - it was excellent anger fuel.

"Did you corner Oubai-san in a classroom? What's wrong with you?"

She figured she'd give him a chance to speak and defend himself off the bat. How he answered would determine how often she'd interrupt him later.

She swept her eyes over him - his given name was Thomas? Well, he looked half. Was he some American transfer student? Maybe that's why he'd do something so rude, she mused.

He paused and his eyes blinked toward the ceiling as if thinking about something.

"Yes. I'm a little too paranoid, I wear my jacket at all times, my sense of morality often conflicts with the established rules and that causes troubles, The only form of entertainment I indulge in are books, and I don't sushi."

Every single word is spoken in complete deadpan. Almost as if Thomas doesn't see anything wrong with answering her with complete honesty.

... What the hell?

What was with this creepy kid, who said things like that? Did have some kind of a disability or something?

"What the hell are you blabbing about? I don't give a damn what food you like or how paranoid you are, you were harassing and interrogating one of my senpai."

She glared at him to impress her feelings on this matter upon him, as though she hadn't already made that clear enough.

"I want to know what the hell your problem is. What the hell do you want with Oubai-san and what makes you think that kind of behaviour is acceptable?"

"You asked what was wrong with me. I answered."

He inclined his head and shrugged. Then looked back toward the book.

"As far as Oubai is concerned. I had questions, I thought he would prefer speaking in private about the week he vanished.

I thought his disappearance might be related to the murder of Sato Kei. I wanted to eliminate him as a suspect."

Kiriko's mouth fell open. Murder of Sato Kei? Second time she'd heard that this week. And he thought Kou was a suspect? Was he in league with that psycho cop from earlier?

"Murder?! You can jump to whatever crazy conclusions you want, I don't care, but you don't have any damn right to harass people. You wanted to speak in private so you cornered him and locked the door? Who the hell do you think you are?! Even the cop who came here a few days ago didn't lock the doors on us!"

He shrugged again. This time closing his book to look up at her. He cocked his head to the side and examined her with cold grey eyes.

"Jump to conclusions? Well I tend to assume the worst. For the Pessimist, if he's proven right, he's prepared, and if he's proven wrong, then he gets to be pleasantly surprised. I asked someone a question. I want to make sure people aren't hurt. So let me ask you; Why are you sticking up for him? What are you and Oubai? Friends? Classmates? Nakama? What makes you come to my corner of the library shouting and disturbing all these people?"

"The fact that you're some creepy psycho stalker, maybe?"

Kiriko had decided he was probably in league with the cop. The jury was still out on whether or not he was a special kid, but whatever he was, he had some gall.

"My relationship with him is none of your damn business. I'm shouting at you to warn you: back off, or I'll get some of the teachers involved. He doesn't need to harassed by some gaijin weirdo right now, so learn some manners and back off."

He makes a simple "Hmm" noise before opening the book up again. He looks back down at the page and begins scanning the lines.

"It's been my experience that evasion of a question often indicates a desire not to give a truthful answer. What you feel the need to be dishonest about may be a different matter altogether though."

Unlike before, he stops in the middle of a page and looks up at her.

"However, I respect your motivations for coming here, even if you had trouble keeping a civil attitude during our discussion.
And so I honor your request. I will promise not to harrass or question or corner, or in any other way inconvince Oubai for as long as I am able.

Shall we save ourselves both time, and just run down the list of any other students you'd like me to avoid questioning?"

He reached into a bag, and pulled free a small notebook. Then he flipped it open and looked at it.

"My current persons of interest include a first year named Kawasa, another first year named Misaki Aoi, a girl named Nawanaka Toshimi, I believe she's on the baseball team... Are any of these people friends I should avoid bothering?"

Kiriko glared at him and snatched the book abruptly from his hands when he turned his attention back to it. She held it away from him between her thumb and forefinger, as though it was infected with something particularly nasty.

"No, I don't think we're understanding eachother - don't harass anybody. Been playing too many video games or something? If you want to pretend to be a big man and run some important investigation, do it at home. Nobody here wants to put up with you playing pretend."

She tossed the book back at him, aiming for his chest but throwing pretty viciously nonetheless. She had been ready to storm off again, but a terrible, wonderful idea occured to her.

"You know what? If you're looking for answers to your stupid little 'investigation,' why don't you go talk to Shirai Reizo and leave everybody else alone?"

When she turned her back she was smiling at her own handiwork, and added not another word as she headed for the door to the library.

The abrupt book snatching didn't seem to surprise Tom. It was, after all, why he marked his page without closing the book in the first place. Her throwing it back at his chest caught him a bit off guard though.

The woman had proved suspicious enough. After all, why would she come to Thomas so angry over Oubai unless the two of them were up to something. The idea that she could just be doing it because they were friends, or because she cared about him was completely foreign to Tom. So while he believe her up to something, he couldn't figure out what it was, he didn't quite think he had something to do with the murder... *yet*. But it did mark Oubai, Aoi and this woman as people of interest. Potentially unconnected to the murder, but definitely something Thomas felt a need to figure out.

Though, he didn't want to miss the opportunity to test her motivations. Thus presenting her with the list of his next targets. Granted she could warn them, but the when the guilty know someone is on to them they make mistakes, those guilty parties might even come after him, further proving his hypothesis. And of course if the woman warned him off anyone on the list in particular, that would indicate her involvement with that person, and provide further leads. If she didn't say anything about the names, then she would have to allow him to continue investigating, unless she wanted to arouse further suspicion.

She, however, chose the third option. To warn him off of everyone. Suggesting that she was standing against a perceived injustice. Something which Thomas had to respect. If nothing else, this meant he would hold to the promise he made regarding Oubai, regardless of this new information.

Besides, the woman had given him two new areas to look into, herself, this Shirai Reizo, and any connection between the two of them.
