Who: Noboru and Toru
What: Gaming and stuff.
Where: Dorm room.
When: Sometime after the Toru threadsplosion and the Noboru-Kouki thread.
Why: Roommate-stuff. Totally.

After two very long days, Toru was just relieved to be back in his dorm, and alone. He'd caved to Kiriko's demands and taken a long shower, which had the added effect of almost clearing his mind. Everything didn't seem so bad, now that he could sit in front of his TV and enjoy some of the simpler things in life.

Such as the upgraded remake of Legends of Losteria. He'd played the original well over a year ago, and was just now getting to enjoy the new edition, which added party members and story events. Just running through a fictional world and slashing up wild monsters was massive relief from insults, shadows, angry girls, glitter, and all of the trauma of his past few days. If there was one thing that would never change about the youth, it was his ability to get so fully immersed in games.

Noboru's behavior succeeded in making Toru glare at him, willing the cursor to stop. It didn't do anything, of course.

"I like Yawi, the main guy. He's... you know, really cool and badass. And his friend, too. The blond knight dude, Wyng. They're both awesome and amazing, and excellent best friends. Way better than the guys in Ultimate Sci-Fi 4, anyway, because they're not fighting over a girl..."

He began to ramble, but stopped himself to exit out of the menu and into the world map. "Let's get started!"

Noboru felt Toru's glare, but it didn't make him stop. He let his thumb flick back and forth a few times, making especially obnoxious sounds, before he finally stopped of his own volition - the noises were starting to annoy him, too.

"Yeah? I always like it when characters have really strong platonic bonds. It makes you think that you can really have a long and deep friendship, you know?"

He listened to Toru's rambling, looking amused, until they entered the world map and the noise of shattering glass announced that they'd stumbled into an encounter.

Noboru proceeded to make himself useful by trying out all of his buttons to see what he could make the dog do, then run back and forth across the screen to watch it move. "Haha, neat."

"It's really nice. Back before I really had any friends, I envied them so much, you know?" Toru was smiling fondly at the characters on the screen, letting his cursor idle while Noboru's flicked back and forth.

When the battle started, Toru snapped back to attention. With deftness and expertise borne of him being on his second playthrough, he guided Yawi to crush his opposition along with the AI-controlled party members. Noboru, however...

"Dammit, senpai, don't just run around! Attack, please! We shouldn't struggle with an easy fight like this!" For his scolding, though, Toru appeared to be having fun.

"You gotta work on timing and technique, okay? I'll teach you!"

Noboru watched Toru as he smiled at the pixels, but, oddly enough, didn't comment. He seemed a little distracted as he said, "Before? You sayin' you've got them now? That's good." He smiled to himself before quickly returning to a careful neutral expression.

"But running around like a dog is fun!" he protested, before allowing Toru to instruct him on how to actually play the game. He stayed quiet and patient throughout the demonstration.

Eventually, he tired of the game and opted out, leaving Toru to keep playing it alone as they kept talking.

"Aw, this ain't so bad. Still don't know why you do it for hours every day, but it's kinda fun."

Rather than countering Noboru, Toru smiled rather wistfully. "Yeah... they're a real nice bunch... though..."

He exhaled. "A lot of them are angry with me right now, and it really sucks. Dunno how soon things will go back to normal. You aren't angry at me, at least.... right?"

After this unusual segue, Toru shook his head. "A-ah, never mind that!" With that, he went back to nagging Noboru about his style of playing.

He kept up in his gameplay after Noboru put down his controller. It didn't matter if he was facing him or not; they could still talk. Not as if he needed to be that polite to somebody like his roommate.

"Glad you had fun, senpai! Even if you kinda really sucked in the beginning, it went pretty well."

Idly flexing his toes, he contemplated this line of thought. "Well, it's... fun, you know? And look at the world in there. It's pretty and exciting, and everyone looks so beautiful. Playing games is the closest I'll ever get to living in there."

Noboru looked at Toru with an odd mix of curiosity and pity. "Nah, I'm not. You're a pretty hard kid to hate, I guess. What happened?"

Toru's reasoning for his habits was about what Noboru expected. "They're pretty, but they're not real. Don't you ever get tired of just sitting here and pretending to experience things instead of, y'know, actually doing something?" These were rich words to hear coming from someone who, on a good day, could be found sprawled out on his bed, surfing the Internet on his laptop and transcribing bits and pieces of stories from his notebook when he remembered to. But, hey, at least Noboru remembered to eat!

Speaking of notebooks, Noboru got up from his seat momentarily to retrieve his, and a pen, from the bed before returning to Toru. Propping it open on his knees, he proceeded to heavily cross out an item towards the bottom of his list, scribbling over it for good measure, until the writing was lost under a blue ink mess. Hopefully, Toru wouldn't see his name under all those scribbles.

ALRIGHT, HERE'S HOW THIS THREAD WOULD HAVE ENDED IF RAMEN AND I WEREN'T DERPS. (We scened this out on AIM, we swear we did. D:)

The conversation (predictably) turns to questioning their schoolmates' sexuality, and during the course of this Toru accidentally confesses his own orientation. Noboru is...surprisingly understanding and doesn't mock him for it, and after some flustered avoidance Toru gets him to admit that Noboru is "like him."

After a furious exchange of "But I'm not attracted to you!" "Well, I'm not attracted to you!", they wind up talking about the types of people they do like (curiously, Toru's choice is still delinquents, ohohohoho~) and Noboru gets all ~deep~ for a second and admits his tendency toward weird crushes on needy and/or insecure people, and his desire to "fix" people that leads him into bad situations sometimes.

And then, because they are both pinnacles of maturity and understanding, an awkward silence prevailed while Toru went back to his games and Noboru went back to his bed.

PS: The thing in Noboru's notebook he crossed out was yet another "Bother Ishinotaku" on his to-do list. Or perhaps it was "Confess love to Ishinotaku," who knows.
