WHO: Kai, Kouki.
WHAT: A last minute pep talk/gift.
WHERE: Some nook backstage.
WHEN: Before the idol event.
WHY: Kai is Mara-chan's biggest fan~

Sneaking backstage had been easier than expected, mostly because Kai hadn't really had to sneak. Since Kouki had said Kai was there to put a last minute touch on his costume, nobody questioned his presence, and he could carry his sewing bag (little more than a prop for his true mission) and set up in an out-of-the-way nook backstage.

He looked around for Kouki, bouncing expectantly on the balls of his feet for a moment, before bending over his bag to paw through it and make sure the most important item was still safely inside. The last thing he needed was to lose it.

Finding that it was secure and still in its box, he gave a smile of relief and pulled it out, discreetly slipping it into his pants pocket for the moment. Then, he waited.

It wasn't long before Kouki materialized before Kai. Backstage was a small area, relatively speaking. Once he caught sight of him, Kouki came rushing, pushing stage hands aside and vaulting over at least one table before crashing to a halt in front of the older boy.

"Heeeeeeeeeey Kai-dono! You came! Yay!" It seemed that he was unaware that he was in a frilly dress and long blond wig, and was just acting like normal reckless Kouki. Which was really more than enough...

"So what's up? Mara-chan is about to debut to the world, with the light of beauty and justice! To defeat the entities that threaten the galaxy!" With this, he struck a pose that looked more uncomfortable than it felt, additionally giving those close to him a view of the briefs underneath his skirt. Some illusions ought to remain that way.

By this point, Kai wasn't surprised by Kouki's antics so much as he was constantly impressed by how the boy managed to top himself. He put his arms up almost defensively, thinking he would catch Kouki if he fell like he looked like he might, but when Kouki stopped in front of him he finally relaxed.

"Um, ah, nothing Mara-chan! Just...something I forgot to give you!" He smiled a little too wide and pulled the box out of his pocket, his heart beating in his throat as he did so. Was this okay? Would Kouki like this? He really wanted Kouki to like this.

He opened the ring box to reveal a deceptively simple silver ring. It was a solid, wide, chunky band engraved with an ocean wave pattern. "I...thought I'd give you a good luck charm," Kai explained, his voice warm and gentle. "This is my favorite thing, 'cause I got it from Okinawa, and it reminds me of home. "I want you to have it for your performance!"

Suddenly remembering what it looked like to be standing there holding out an open ring box to another boy, Kai quickly plucked the ring out of its case and held just it out to Kouki instead. "I hope it gives you the same confidence it gives me when I look at it."

Kouki grabbed at the box, and then the ring, like an overexcited five-year-old. "Ooooh! Is this... a good luck charm? Mara-chan knew to count on Kai-dono!"

His slim fingers turned the ring over and over again, feeling the texture of the silver and appreciating the patterns on it. "You're a real artist, to pick this... it's really pretty..." Still musing and looking surprisingly thoughtful, he slipped it on one finger.

"Thank you, Kai-dono! This ring, forged from pure silver from the planet Pororoca and retrieved from the ocean depths by ten glowing octopus foot-soldiers, shall guide Mara-chan to victory! Hehehe!" Kouki now bounced up and down on the balls of his feet, before overbalancing right into his senpai. Perhaps it was actually intentional (there was no way to truly tell), but either way it propelled him into a clumsy embrace.

A relieved, genuine smile bloomed on Kai's face at Kouki's reaction. Mara-cha - Kouki counted on him.

"T-Thanks. I really, really like the pretty," he said quickly, before realizing that "I like the pretty" made him sound so very intelligent and corrected himself. "Er, I like pretty things."

"Hee, or Kai-dono made a long and difficult journey from the alien planet Okinawa to give Mara-chan the sacred artifact that will help her win her battle!" He grinned rather blithely and threw up a peace sign, getting in to the moment. It was fun to play along with Kouki's silliness sometimes.

He got so caught up, in fact, that he was surprised by Kouki crashing into him, and embraced him back to keep him from falling (and potentially rumpling Kai's costume work before anyone else had even seen it).

Before he could think, he was hugging Kouki rather tightly, of his own volition. "Good luck, Yoshida-chan," he murmured, feeling warmth spread out from his stomach to the rest of his body the longer he held Kouki.

"Nyahahahaha, that's even better!" Kouki responded. Kai's tendency to play along with his ridiculous flights of fancy could only ever encourage him.

"Kai-dono is super-special, and made of magic or something, obviously! So his ring is also super special! And pretty!" He made a three-fingered peace sign back at his friend, grinning broadly all the while.

Though he was small and skinny, Kouki could have a pretty good grip when he needed to. The hug he gave to Kai was tight, and definitely intentional. "Thanks. I'm gonna try my hardest, okay, Kai-dono?"

This...this was nice. He almost wished he didn't have to let go. But, with one last good squeeze, Kai relased Kouki and attempted to step back.

"Okay. I gotta go, but I'll be cheering the loudest for you, Yoshida-chan!"

Picking up his bag, he quickly made his way out, both before he was caught and before anyone could see the happy flush on his face and wonder what, exactly, had put it there.
