After the Beach
Who: Misaki and Masaya
What: Hanging out
Where: The playground near the elementary school
When: Afternoon
Why: Because playing at a playground is fun.

Misaki carried the small basket in her arms as she walked along the sidewalk to the playground. The old swings were still there, but most of the equipment was replaced long ago by modern plastic, safer for children. She pushed open the gate and looked around. Not seeing Masaya Misaki pouted just a bit, but then shrugged and walked over to the swings to sit on one and pushed back and forth slowly.

She wondered when he would come and hoped that they could have a good lunch. She had a lot of photos to show him.

Masaya could have been in a better mood, and he was trying to put why exactly out of his mind. Right now, he wanted to see Misaki more than anything.

He nearly stomped through the gate, but when he looked up and saw Misaki, his footsteps (and his mood) lightened considerably.

"Misaki-san!" he called with a wave, a small smile appearing on his face unbidden. He made his way over to the swings and took the one next to her. "It's good to see you. Did you have fun in Okinawa?"

Misaki grinned happily seeing him and waved as he came over. Rocking some on the swing still she nodded vigorusly, "Yes. Well mostly, there were a few things that got out of hand, but I think we settled them. At least I hope we did."

"I brought us lunch," Misaki held up the basket and glanced over at him. "You okay, you seemed a bit tense when you were coming up near the gate."

Masaya nodded, trying to focus on what she was saying and not the bad feeling currently churning up the pit of his stomach. He looked down at his feet as he swung back and forth lightly. "That's good. A few dicks ruined it for everyone, huh?"

A very small part of him was glad that she hadn't immediately started gushing about how much fun her time away from him had been, and that there had been bad parts. (An equally small part of him called the other an ass for even thinking like that, but it was quickly silenced by the rest of Masaya.)

He looked up, brightening noticeably at the mention of food. "Awesome! What did you make? You're in Cooking Club, so it'll probably be good anyway, right?"

Her question made him pause and unconsciously bite his lip. "Yeah, it's nothing. Ma was yelling at me before I came is all. She said I didn't tell her about going to meet anyone today when I know I did, and she's annoying when she thinks she's right." Like all the time.

At the memory of their argument, Masaya felt something hot and furious rush up his throat momentarily, and his hand clenched around the chains of the swing. His mother had not only accused him of being dense, but selfish and thoughtless and...well, okay, some stuff that was partially true, but did she have to hammer him about it like she had? "Let's not worry about it," he said, noticeably quieter, a moment later.

"I'm not sure if you can call it that. More a...crises of self, in a way," Misaki nodded slowly. She rubbed the back of her neck some. "By the way I was wondering, your team...would...would they want to help me with something? I was thinking...um...Toshi-chan seemed kind of down slightly, and I thought that maybe they could help in cheering her up some, showing that she is appricating."

She listend quietly, to what he had to say, and put her hand on his giving it a bit of a squeeze. "It'll be okay, sometimes parents can't see past their nose or they're too wrapped up in things around themself." She grinned, and opened up the basket, "I figured something light, I made some typical sandwiches. I hope that's okay, I got the idea from a movie I saw and thought that it would be fun to have something simple."

Masaya blinked. He didn't really understand that phrasing, but he decided not to question it because, well, he kind of really didn't care about people he barely knew. He nodded at Misaki's question, answering in a quick mumble that implied his mind wasn't on what he was promising. "Yeah, yeah, I think they wouldn't mind." He'd never really thought of Toshimi much outside of "creepy smile" and "way too happy all the time"; in a way he wondered what the hell had even bothered her so much in the first place.

Hoping to change the subject, Masaya pretended to be engrossed in the prospect of lunch. "Food is food, Misaki-san. You got the pictures, too?"
Remembering something, he slapped a hand to his forehead and ran it through his hair. "Oh, shit, I was gonna bring my ball and gloves. That way we could play catch. Next time okay?"

"Thanks, she wasn't feeling too good at the beach, so I thought that maybe haveing her team um...be there for her, would help her out some?" Misaki smiled gently and she laughed as she handed him a sandwich. "Well food is food, but I feel bad that I didn't have time to make a really big meal."

She giggled some, "It's okay if you want we can play on the stuff here. I haven't played at a playground in a long time. It'd be fun to hang out with you and just be silly, you know."

The moment he had a sandwich, Masaya's mind was wiped of anything Toshimi-related. He set to work on devouring it, taking larger bites than he should have and (charmingly) trying to speak around mouthfuls. "'s okay, it's good!" He swallowed the giant lump of food in his mouth with some effort, and then waited to speak before shoveling in any more. "It's nice, Misaki-san. Don't worry about it."

"Um..." Well, he had suggested the playground, right? Why do it if he didn't want to play around?

...Because he'd had no other ideas, really. Looking around, this all seemed so stupid, so little kid-like, so not him. He felt embarassed just being here, and stupid for feeling embarassed and -

He rapped his forehead against the swing chains, suddenly weary. "Sure, why not?" he muttered, then got up quickly, stuffing the rest of the sandwich in his mouth before trying to talk around it. "Bet I can still hang upside-down on the monkey bars."

Yeah, he'd loved to do that when he was a kid. Maybe if he just kept acting like everything was fine like it was back then, he could move past this weird spell...

Masaya walked over to the metal bars, jumping up and grabbing on to hang off of them, seeing if they'd test his weight, before he pulled himself up and set about dangling upside-down from them.

"I'm so glad you like it! I wasn't sure if it would turn out that good, but I'm really glad you like the taste of it," Misaki exclaimed happily and then watched as he rapped his head against the chain. She stared at him quietly and tentively started to reach out her hand to brush his hair, but stopped when he got up and giggled when he suggested to go on the monkey bars.

She followed him over and hopped up on the bars, catching with her hands and hanging near him grinning, "That's awesome! I was never able to get up there by myself. You're really strong Masaya-kun!"
