Who: Masami and Toru
What: Fighting games
Where: Beach house, common room
When: Some time before the end of the beach trip
Why: Because Masami doesn't know Mortal Kombat... or in this case, Soul Calibur

A look out the window as she woke up revealed two things to Masami: first, she had slept in for a very long time judging by the sun's position, and second, that most of the rest of the team was already outside at the beach. Her long sleep had left her a bit thirsty and she needed to shake some of the morning grogginess, so without thinking she stepped out of her room, still dressed in her pajamas, to go get something to drink.

As events would have it, one member of the team was not outside, and as Masami walked through the common room, she spotted a certain otaku playing a fighting game that she had played a couple times before.

Masami might have been surprised at Toru asking her to join him in the game, but it was pretty apparent that he would've asked anyone who had happened to walk into the room to play... and, she thought, he probably would've reacted in much the same way upon realizing who he was talking to as he had with her, no matter who it had actually been(well, maybe there were a couple exceptions to that).

She remembered having played one of the Spiritbolg games at some point, and though she had liked it she had also been tremendously bad at playing it. Still, it seemed like it'd be a fun distraction, and what was the harm in giving it a shot?

"Oh, it's OK. I had actually just woke up," she said, realizing that she probably looked only marginally less unkempt than Toru did. She started trying to comb her hair with her fingers even as she said, "It sounds like fun! I'm pretty bad at it though..."

After a moment of wait, what crossing his mind and paralyzing his thoughts, Toru beamed at Masami. "Let's play, then! It doesn't matter what your skill level is! Th-this'll be fun, I think."

Deftly, he quit out of his current fight and went over to the 2-player mode. "Do you remember the controls? Either way, lemme set up a handicap so you can get used to it again..."

After doing so, he held up the second controller to her. "A-and you can play as whoever you'd like, too."

Masami smiled. "It's been a while, but I think I remember the controls," she said as she took the controller from him. She started moving around her cursor on the character select screen, looking for her old favorite.

After a second, her cursor moved over the portrait of a certain scruffy, scrubby Japanese samurai character with a tricky right foot, and she hit the button to select him.

Toru watched Masami's selection with some interest. If he could perceive how she chose a character, he could gain insight to her fighting style and plans, and thus gain the upper hand. And it was the samurai! Figured. Her Persona was one, after all, and she herself was an expert with a sword.

Toru shrugged and went for his staff-wielding regular. Best to stick with the sure thing, right? This finished, he selected a random battle arena (having no preference in the matter), and let the match begin.

"Of course, even with a handicap, there's no holding back. You ready?"

"Umm, I'm ready," Masami replied as the game's announcer voice started the match.

For all that Masami was good in an actual fight, however, when it came to fighting games, she was only just barely good enough to even be called a novice. In fact, when it came to this game, the only thing she knew was to use her scruffy, scrubby samurai character's tricky right foot for all it was worth, repeating the same move(a sweep kick followed by a sword slash) over and over again in hopes that Toru would not catch on.

However, as expected Toru was leaps and bounds better than Masami at gaming, and the match was over in short order. Disappointed but not immediately discouraged(maybe he'd gotten lucky?), Masami immediately asked him, "Would you like to play again?"
