Sato Kei Dungeon Investigation
WHO: Keiichi, Masafumi, Seiko, Kai, at minimum. Likely mods too!
WHAT: Investigation of Sato Kei's dungeon.
WHERE: Paradise, sillykins!
WHEN: SOON!
WHY: Because it's a lead.

With the teams made by Sonozaki-san, all that remained was to carry out what had to be done. To that end, Keiichi stood in Paradise, sword and shield at the ready. Tachibana-san had kindly informed him and the others of where Sato's dungeon was, and it was time to find out just what the heck awaited them all inside.

"Is everyone ready," he asked, looking at the group standing with him.

Like Aomori's, this dungeon was familiar - the team was standing at the gates of Nanakamado. Not a burning Nanakamado, or a wax museum Nanakamado, or any kind of Nanakamado-in-wonderland - for the most part, it just looked like a particularly still and sunny spring day. There were only two things out of place: one, ethereal light that shone from some of the windows of the school, as it had in parts of Seiji's and Aomori's dungeon, and two, no students.

The place was not completely deserted however - tiny shadows skittered across the grounds, squealing and running at the sound of footsteps from the team.

Except for the Shadows, this place was deceptively calm, but Kai had since learned not to trust anything in Paradise. He stared up at the lights in the window warily, and then looked to Keiichi.

"I am," he said.

With every bit of courage he had, he stepped up to the gates to go inside.

Seiko only nodded in response to Keiichi, she looked exhausted and wearing an old pink t-shirt (with a faded picture of a kitten on it), and similarly ancient sweatpants with hair hair scraped back into a messy ponytail she looked decidedly unhappy to be there.

She felt almost angry to be back in Paradise so soon, maybe it wasn't anyone's fault, but it was only days ago she had been trapped here, tied to a crystal statue and wearing a lot more body jewels than most people would ever see in their lifetime. It wasn't somewhere she wanted to be and with her emotions so raw and different she felt uncomfortable. The irritation she felt was something so unusual to her she didn't really know how to cope with it.

She edged close to Kai, he at least seemed nice and non-threatening, and judging from his reactions in the past he was as unhappy as she was in this place. He wasn't Tom who she'd feel safest with, of course she'd feel safest with Tom, even without the boyfriend thing he was like a walking armory and she trusted his ability to deal with Paradise situations. However Kai had been pretty accepting in her dungeon, and had come across as a nice guy when she had got him to make costumes and such so she slipped even closer to him hoping he'd understand.

"Um Kai-san, can I stick with you?"

Kai was surprised by Seiko's tenative question. Before...that place she'd seemed so naturally outgoing and happy that it was hard to imagine she could ever be nervous or unsure. But then...

He looked back at Paradise for a moment. He could understand her trepidation, especially so soon after going in there to face her Shadow.

"Of course, Seiko-san," he said, giving her a gentle smile and putting a hand on her shoulder briefly. The happy glow of taking care of someone else held back his own unease about Paradise for the moment, and he seemed to relax a little near Seiko. "Paradise isn't a very nice place, but exploring the school can't be so bad, right?"

As Seiko and Kai spoke, Keiichi looked at (yet another) representation of Nanakamado High School. Of the ones seen so far, this one seemed the most normal; save of course for the tiny skittering shadows and the light exuding from windows.

Making a mental note to try and leave Seiko be as best he could, Keiichi turned to the group. "We should get going, I think," he said, before beginning the walk towards the front door, trying to not step on the little shadows.

Kai nodded. "Well, come on, then," he said, and followed Keiichi.

He had finally learned to ignore the little shadows for the most part. He supposed they were only a few carefully-chosen spells away from being blown to bits, anyway, so they were nothing to fear. Still, though he was tempted, he avoided kicking at them as he walked by.

He opened the door to enter the school, first waiting for the others to enter before he followed them in. Hopefully, it was as normal inside as it was out.

"Did anyone get a look at what rooms were lit up? Maybe we should go to them first."

Once they get inside, it seems that almost ALL of the rooms are lit up, the majority of them with light so blinding they can't even be looked at. Some are dimmer, some look as if they're being slowly eaten away at. The staircase is still intact, as are the main hallway, but almost nothing on the first floor, save for a couple of janitor's closets, looks explorable. There are gaps in the walls and the ceilings where light shines through, and the skittering shadows, numbering fewer than outside, seem just as keen to avoid these places as to avoid the team.

Masafumi had been tailing along the group, having not said anything because frankly, he didn't feel like he had much of anything to say. He'd brought along his baseball bat this time, figuring it'd be more useful and anyone who might have seen him on the way to school wouldn't find it too odd.

This place actually seemed...fairly normal, compared to the last time he was in Paradise. Not counting the ridiculously bright lights, that is. And the gaps.

"I don't think we'll be able to take a look into the rooms."

"Probably right about that Nishihara-san," Keiichi concurred. "Although...I'm curious about the janitor's closets."

Keiichi took a quick glance at Seiko, and realized a brief explanation was needed before she assumed that he was worried about glitter or something.

"When the initial group got their personas," he said, "it was because we were all locked in the gymnasium. Presumably the janitor accidentally locked us in, or that was what we'd thought at the time. No one knows, but someone eventually turned the door the wrong way, and..."

Approaching one of the janitor's closets, Keiichi placed one hand on the doorknob, other hand on his sword, and tried to pull the door open.

The door clicked, turned, and swung open to reveal an anticlimax. Unless Keiichi is very fond of brooms and cleaning ingredients.

Faced with this anticlimax, Keiichi was very disappointed.

"I guess we go upstairs then?"

"Yes," Kai said, nodding to himself. He walked over to the (thankfully) intact stairs and began to climb them. Breaking exploration down into small, manageable chunks - climb steps, go upstairs, remember to breathe - was making Paradise easier to handle, even if it made him act like a robot. He just hoped this forced calm would stick once something happened.

Once upstairs, he turned back to his temporary charge. "How're you doing, Seiko-san?"

Seiko winced all the same at the janitor's closet, she was very lucky no one had linked her to that, after all locking several grown men in a closet was a little... She shook her head, this was not the time to think about these things. Whilst she was unhappy to be here she should at least try to be of some use, though she supposed that would only happen if there was a fight, she wasn't really a thinker.

She followed Kai quietly until he spoke to her, "oh, I'm okay Kai-san, just a bit odd being here again so soon, I mean it has only just been a week. I know we needed to investigate, but I-" she paused, not used to expressing her real feelings so freely, but it was a good thing she had been told, to be honest even when it was bad. "I wish I hadn't been asked to come in this group I guess. I'm not really much use here."

Keiichi followed Kai up the stairs, making sure to give Seiko a wide berth. She seemed somewhat out of sorts lately; a far cry from what she usually was.

Paradise seemed to have that effect on people, at least at first.

Having ascended the stairs, Keiichi looked around, for some clue at which way to go next.

It was easy enough to tell where to go - even more of this area was reduced to light. In fact, it was shining out of every room except one - the room where Sato Kei's body had been found.

One day, Keiichi hoped they'd find out what all of this light was, that seemed to be omnipresent particularly in the Nanakamado paradise locations.

"Well," he reasoned, looking back at the group, "it looks like we've got one option here."

From his side, he pulled his sword free, and reached back to get his shield off his back. "Just in case," he said, adjusting his weaponry. "Is everyone ready? We'll go once we are. Be ready for anything..."

Kai's face softened at Seiko's vulnerable confession. She reminded him of himself in Paradise - a fact he would try not to dwell on. "Aw, Seiko-san..."

He squeezed her shoulder reassuringly. "It's alright; I don't think anyone really wants to be in here if they can help it, but you have even more reason to mind. Just do your best, and we'll be out soon." He looked over his shoulder to see if anyone was listening before he said one more thing: "To be honest, I'm not sure what I'm doing here, either."

With that, he let go of her and turned back to Keiichi. "I'm fine. Let's go on." The phone clenched in his tight grip showed otherwise, but Kai figured there was no point in announcing how nervous he really was. It never got anyone's sympathy before.

"Stay behind me," he whispered to Seiko before they went on. "I'll look out for you."

The room might at first appear to be another anticlimax - just a classroom, nothing of note on the boards, no students in any of the desks. It was falling into light, too, so much so as to give the impression that the sun was sinking low outside and filtering in through the windows.

There was, however, one thing of note - the desk where Sato Kei had sat, and later been found dead, was not completely empty. Sitting on top of the desk, a blue mask, similar to those worn by the first monsters they had ever seen in Paradise. Etched into the forehead of the mask - "0."

Stepping into the room, and cautious to avoid the light, Keiichi deftly plucked the blue mask off of the desk. He looked at the number written there, and frowned.

"This..."

He didn't know exactly WHAT it meant. But given that Sonozaki-san had found those keychains with roman numerals that *seemed* to coincide with the investigation team, a 0 had to at least...

"Let's get out of here, guys. And while we do, have a look at this. I think we need to show everyone."

Keiichi tried to gather the team around so they could look as they left Paradise.

The moment Keiichi lifts the mask, everything seems to freeze. The sensation is a familiar one - something beating at the back of his brain, a voice whispering, just this time not through a cell phone receiver. The others feel it too when they get in close. The mask seems to be glowing a faint blue, the garbled voices in the back of their minds getting louder. A butterfly of blue light flutters past, and suddenly the noise and images flooding their brains are comprehensible.

He was one of them; a leader among them; this was his battle before theirs, and he was supposed to have fought it at the helm. There are no words telling them this, only a feeling of knowing. The only words that are distinguishable are 'Wildcard' and 'Fool', both of which seem to be associated with an image of a figure calling for not one persona, but several, all of them silhouetted, all of them dissolving when he falls to the ground.

The butterfly vanishes as it floats away, and the room (and their heads) return to normal.

It wasn't exactly a pleasant experience. Not exactly unpleasant either, just...weird. Images, noise (garbled, but noise. Noise noise noise, irritating--). About stuff he...well, didn't understand obviously, just knowing what they were depicting. And the words he did manage to make out, he didn't understand either.

Though perhaps the fact the figure seemed to have one than one Persona might have something to do with them.

And then suddenly everything was back to normal, and all he could do was blink.

"I. Urm. ...You all saw that, right?" Eloquence wasn't really on his side at the moment.

Kai blinked rapidly, trying to clear his head of the myriad images and sensations it had just been flooded with. At first, he wanted to declare that it made no sense and be done with it, but the more he thought on it...

"Does that mean...he was supposed to be our leader? And he summoned more than one Persona, too... But none of us can do that; I don't think it's even possible."

He furrowed his brow, trying to think this through. Paradise made less and less sense every day.
