Ikeda Kiriko | 池田 妃凛子 ([info]apathyisboring) wrote in [info]disappear_plot,

Who: Everyone.
What: TOWN MEETING
Where: Butterfly Room
When: 3 days post-dungeon.
Why: Business to cover.

"This is kind of overdue," Kiriko began with everyone seated, "But with Sonozaki-san's... er... crisis, we didn't really have time to go over this earlier."

She held up one of the pendants that had exploded at the entrance of Tom's dungeon.

"This is our first order of business. Shirai and I investigated the weird storekeeper who said he sold them. He was... a bit reluctant, but we didn't have to break anything. Anyway, the person he sold them to is that weird kid who sits near the door in 1-B... who, from the looks of it, specifically targeted us with them. He just put up a creepy journal post about freezers, too -- did anybody else see it? We're going to question him on Thursday... not that he knows that yet."

Kanaye shrugged. "Sounds suspicious." He agreed, trying not to look at Maeko and succeeding, if only by making sure he was staring at his feet.

Maeko's hands were bandaged again.

"I saw it. If he's aware of anything then that was in terrible taste...trying to taunt us?"

"You mean Seiji-san...?" Toshimi looked incredulous. "But..."
The rest of her sentence, he's a teammate, died on her tongue before she could voice it.

The regular peaceful smile returned to her face. She decided he just didn't know what he was buying at the time. That would make sense--it was just bad luck. She made no indication that she had anything else to say, though.

Renju was wearing a cold mask and a light jacket. She wasn't coughing yet, but better safe than sorry. Somehow, she figured that her immune system was probably even worse than usual right now.

"One or the other could be written off as coincidence. I doubt they both are."

Tom also still wore a mask over his mouth and a hood. The cold was started to dissipate, but apparently he still felt a need to take Maeko's advice to heart. Either that or he just wanted to dress up like a super hero. He looked at Kiriko.

"On top of that there was his journal post about his mother's grave disappearing. It could be he's a sleeper agent.

Either way, I agreed to help him. So we can use that to get him alone without arousing suspicion."

"A what," Kozue mumbled, from her position on the couch. (Of course she was sitting on a comfy couch! One was available!) A sleeper agent?

Toru, from his seat comfortably near but not quite among the hugdolls, vocalized uncomfortably.

"Seiji-kun? B-but, he... he wouldn't hurt anyone..." It was discomforting to consider his somewhat-friend a potential enemy. On second thought, it was almost a logical plot twist.

"...i-is he one of those angels, then?

"We can't really know, can we? Not until we ask him about it. It's better if people who know him come, too, I think." She frowned. If this was an honest-to-God lead then they really ought to follow up on everyone who acted weird in the school.

"The second issue is... Even though Sonozaki-san's case was an anomaly," she spoke this part a little quicker than usual and glanced at Renju only long enough to be inconpsicuous, "It's clear by this point that we're specifically being targeted. The killers already know who we are... I mean, they've seen our faces. The only ones who might be safe are the newer members."

Renju ignored the comment about her case, though something clearly flashed across her face as it was being said. "I worked at Fujiwara-san's shop with Mikio-kun for a little while. I'll come along."

Masami, who was sitting on the couch next to Kozue, sipped her tea. "Well, I haven't spoken to him much myself, but I'll come too either way," she offered.

Maeko tried to again being scared by being a target. They already knew. They were already dealing with the problem. They just needed to continue what they were doing. It wasn't like she was too attached to this life anyway.

"I've never really spoken to him, I'm afraid. Other than sending him back to his own classroom when he gets lost, if we're talking about the same person."

"There's a chance he's just being framed, o-or used." Toru's tone was more resolute now.

"H-how much of our evidence actually points to him being the killer, a-anyways? The charms weren't the MO of the angels, or the one responsible for putting people in Paradise... I-I mean, they were an attempt on our lives... b-but why Mizoguchi-kun, then? O-or Kojima-senpai? They aren't affliated with our group at all... and those charms only worked in Paradise..." He had been thinking over this during his silence, it seemed. Toru just didn't want Seiji to be the killer. It had hurt enough to have Kazuya accused of the same by Tom before. Why were his friends always the ones being accused?

Misaki had her head down. For once she didn't agree with Kiriko-chan and that bothered her. Yes Seiji probably knew about ghosts but...why would he target those people. It just...

"You're wrong...Seiji-kun couldn't have been the one that did it. He...He's not the type. Even if it seems like it because of that journal, how...How could he have known who to give it to? And why give it to Kojima-sempai, or for that matter Nayuki-sempai? I mean..."

She closed her eyes and thought. There were connections there though...toshi was the leader of the ball club he was in, Nayuki had helped him out once or twice, Kojima san...well that was one she wasn't sure of, other then he was shy around her and she could only guess that it was because she and Shirou were friendly with him.

But still...something felt wrong in her stomache.

"I have a question then, lets assume that it is Seiji-kun, but then what would that mean? If it was him, why give it to only the people that he did? How could he have known when we went into paradise? Or for that matter, were the pendents already rigged when he bought them, or did he do it. If he didn't know and bought them, then I think we should look more into Hikaru-san and see just how much he knows about these pendents really. If he did know about it, were the pendents already rigged, or did Seiji-kun rigg them..."

"It just seems like a huge task for one freshman to do, I don't....I really don't know if he did it or not, but...but he's innocent until we find solid evidence to prove he's guilty right?" Misaki looked up at Kiriko and swallowed. She hoped she didn't bite off more then she could chew.

Tom shook his head. And rested his forehead against his palm for a moment.

"You are all getting ahead of yourselves."

He lifted his head and looked around the table.

"What we know is that he is a prime suspect for the purchasing and delivering of a set of pendants that have shadows within them. That's it.
There is certainly some odd information about him, but so far there is nothing that says he is guilty. I don't believe Ikeda-san was suggesting he is guilty.

What he have is a suspect, and a lead. The proper course of action now is to question him, and learn more."

He leaned back in his chair.

"Don't start jumping to conclusions until we've got all the facts."

Kiriko nodded.

"Sagaki's exactly right. We're just investigating the leads we have further. Though, you're all going to have to throw your guard back up - when someone is acting suspiciously, them being nice shouldn't be enough to put down the investigation."

She frowned, scanning the room. That would always be a problem with Misaki, most likely. It might be best to exclude her... Kiriko's fingers drummed the desk she was standing in front of.

"One last thing before we go... I'm stepping down as leader."

Kozue sat forward a bit at this, although other than what? her reaction wasn't entirely easy to gauge. She glanced around at the rest of the team, waiting to see how they'd react; she shot a brief look at Kiriko, but it was more one of concern than of accusation.

Naturally, she was curious, but her curiosity could wait. She'd ask Kiriko for a why (and a real why, not the reason she'd tell the team) when they were alone.

Maeko looked taken aback for a second but recovered quickly.

It made sense. She'd felt for a while that despite thier own selfish need for a leader nineteen lives were too much responibitily to expect someone to deal with at Kiriko's...at any of thier ages.

"Understood." She said, nodding. "I think if we need a replacement that should be dealt with at a later date. For now we have a lead for once, we don't need a leader to know we should be chasing it."

Misaki's eyes went wide with disbelief, "Kiriko-chan...do...do you have to? I mean, could't you work with someone as leader or something?"

The reason she wanted Kiriko as leader was pretty simple, Kiriko had an easier time dealing with Reizo, people listened to her when she spoke, and she had a determination that others might not have. People respected her.

The pink haired girl sighed and nodded, "Alright fair enough. It is your choice."

Her thoughts were swirling, they were all going to deal with the lead on Seiji, if that was the case then the best way to get any infomation was to see if there was connections between him and the peopole that got the pendents. And the only way to get him to talk would be to treat him in a way that would get him to open up. The best way to do that was to deal with getting him to talk about his sister and trying to get closer to him.

"So where should we start? I was going to suggest that maybe someone look into his family situation to see if we can get information there that we can use if we have to question him."

"

"I don't think we should have a replacement."

Kiriko frowned at Maeko, though in thought more than in disappointment. Her eyes fluttered away, her hands coming together as she frowned instead at the desk and shifted her weight from one foot to the other.

"We're all in this together, like it or not." That was hard to say. With it out, she lifted her head again. "Paradise is strange and unpredictable. I can't lead you effectively and it doesn't make sense to keep pretending like I can. But that's probably going to be true for everyone. We all seem to step forward when the situation calls for it, when we have something to contribute."

It was all true, certainly true enough to make her a bit squirming and uncomfortable in saying it, but she left off the admittance that she didn't want to be replaced so easily... Nobody would be able to do any better than she had anyway, that was for sure, but besides that it just wasn't a good arrangement.

"I'll continue to do everything I can to make sure that things get done, and you can all still come to me if you want something dealt with, but there's nothing official anymore. Before I step down, though... "

She whirled around to a stand and a stack of chart paper (had that always been there?), flipping over the top page to reveal 5 points neatly handwritten under the headline, Rules.

"I'm instituting these, as my last act as leader, to be followed at all times."

[[ Rules:

Rule #1: "Check your personal issues at the door."
Rule #2: "What you do outside of Paradise is your own business, but do your best to keep it from interfering with Rule #1."
Rule #3: "No fighting on the inside. If you're mad, take it out on the shadows. If you can't man up and keep your mouth shut then leave instead of compromising us."
Rule #4: "Move as a unit in Paradise and watch eachother's backs outside of it. Splitting up is dangerous and early warning is helpful."
Rule #5: "Constant vigilance. Be wary of non-Persona users, especially those bearing gifts or doing favours, and only discuss Paradise privately."
]]

Misaki took the pages and read it over carefully. They seemed easy enough to follow. She raised her hand quickly after a moment.

"So what about if we spot a new persona user or something? I mean can we talk to them about Paradise?"

"Not until they've awakened." Kiriko folded her arms. "Give them the breakdown once you're inside Paradise so you won't be overheard and they won't think that you're crazy and tell other people about it."

"I think in the case of a new member we should communicate each other first. We need all the help we can get but we can't risk falling into a trap again."

Her voice remained completely level even when adressing Misaki, she was making an effort to obey Rules #1 and #3.

Reizo had been sitting over in his by-now customary place in the corner, bent over with his head propped up on the hand of the arm that was propped up by his elbow on a leg. He tossed the group rare cursory glances, , but otherwise kept his attention focused on his phone and the multitude of text messages he was sending, with brief intervals to flick his cigarette away and grab a new one.

It was in the middle of such a break that Ikeda ‘officially’ stepped down. He looked at the girl closely, eyes narrowing in suspicion and an eyebrow arching ever-so-slightly, bottom of his face covered by the hand held protectively over his freshly lit cigarette.

“Tired of the idiots, huh?” He said, the smirk showing more in his voice than on his face.

He stared hard at Ikeda in an attempt to make her give up the goose and tell him the real reason for it all. He knew her well enough to know how much she loathed losing control of things (well, anyone should know that after her dungeon) but here she was.. Well, he’d wriggle it outta her somehow later on. Eventually he quit drilling holes into her with looks and took to reading the new rules. When he got to the fourth one he gave her a new look that told her she must be out her damned mind.

“You really think I’m gonna waste my time looking after you pussies outside? I got better shit to do.”

His cell phone beeped several times in rapid succession to confirm that he really did have better shit to do.

She caught the look and evaded it completely, busying herself with seconding Maeko's response to Misaki instead. She only looked back when he'd found the first objectionable rule, and this time did so with an elaborate roll of her eyes.

"Don't look after anyone, then. Just text me if you see something strange. I'm sure your incredibly busy social life won't suffer too badly for it."

"It's her decision. I believe we should respect it."

Kou had been listening with folded arms and slow consideration. Then he looked around him, at the different personalities and faces and attitudes, and knew immediately he didn't want to lead such an unpredictable group of people. His hands turned over, and then he thought nobody should have such control over other people.

"The simple fact is both appear guilty. This entire situation is too co-incidental. Father says there's no such things as accidents. Besides, if it's neither then it's someone local. They have to have known who to aim for."

A pause for breath.

"We should vote. It seems the fairest course to take."

Misaki nodded to Kiriko, nodded politely to Maeko, observing the rules, and then paused hearing Kou's comment and looked at him, "Vote on a new leader? Humm...I don't know if voting in now is such a good idea."

"What if we divide up into groups that way it would be easier to look after the people in your group." Misaki suggested.

Keiichi (from the spot he'd totally been listening to the whole meeting at) seemed lost in thought for a moment. "That...seems reasonable."

He shrugged. Kiriko had been as good as any of them could have been, he supposed, and it wasn't fair to put that responsibility on anyone else's shoulders.

"I suppose it's best without a leader, and us all doing our part."

Still, the fact that she'd instituted rules? She might as well be the leader, as far as he was concerned. She may as well have said "no leader but I decide how we govern things, so there."

Keiichi sighed, and went back to plotting a recipe for tiramisu.

Misaki sighed, "I listened, I'm just saying that, for one of the rules, wouldn't it be easier to look after partners or pairs of people in groups. I'm sure we can all look out for one another, just that, in the event that we need to go some where, maybe have designated groups, that way everyone is covered?"
