Action Scene: Sirius goes to retrieve Remus

Sirius stood on the doorstep to the house he had not been to in years. He was going to see Remus again and his heart hammered in his chest. Memories of their last night together played across his mind but he pushed them back and told himself he was here for Remus and to help him with his change only. He couldn't give away a thing about what had happened; he had to protect Remus. He eyed the place warily and took a deep breath as he lifted a hand to knock on the heavy wooden door, wondering who would answer and hoping against hope that it would be Remus.

Padfoot watched Remus's change, whinging softly as Remus's fingers pulled at his fur. He cringed as the howl pierced the night then lifted his own muzzle into the air and answered Moony with a howl of his own. As soon as Moony was ready, they were off, running through the forest, racing past the trees and shrubs and into the night.

The sun was just cresting the horizon when they finally stopped. Every inch of the forest had been covered and he was tired. Padfoot panted softly as he loped to a stop at the edge of the trees. He turned and looked back at Moony then barked, waiting for the change once more.

The wolf let out a small cry as he melted back into tall, thin Remus Lupin. Remus gasped at the familiar but still jolting sensation of his mind seizing control back, and the fur melting back into his skin.

His first thought, and one of the only before he drifted out of consciousness, was that he couldn't remember the last time he'd felt so little pain after a full moon. He was still exhausted and sore and trembling, but he couldn't feel holes in his flesh or smell his own blood.

He opened his eyes just enough to blurrily make out the black dog a few feet away, and slowly lifted a hand and reached out toward him. "Padfoot..." he managed, just before he dropped his hand to the ground and fell asleep.

Padfoot changed back to Sirius and looked down at his friend. He sighed heavily and knelt beside Remus. He drew his wand, casting the first of many spells. Healing all the small hurts he could find, Sirius put away his wand and shook him gently.

"Moony, come on, wake up mate. I'm sorry to do this to you but come on. You've got to wake up for a bit. Once we get to the Shack, then you can sleep for a while. I can't carry you all the way there."

	Remus returned to the waking world slowly as he felt Sirius's hand on his shoulder, shaking him lightly. He groaned and forced his eyes to open and his brain to comprehend what Sirius was saying. Finally, he nodded and, squeezing his eyes shut again and inhaling deeply, he pushed himself off the ground and reached out for Sirius's help to get him to his feet. Sirius griped Remus under his arm and helped him to his feet. After they were standing, he wrapped one of Remus's arms around his shoulders and slid his arm around Remus's waist. Taking a deep breath he leaned in and pressed a kiss to the side of Remus's face and squeezed him close.

He turned them around and took a deep breath. "I've got you, Moony. Whenever you're ready to start, we can go. We're at the edge of the forest on the Hogsmeade side. It's not too far to the Shack."

Sirius tightened his grip on Remus and slowly, they made their way to the Shrieking Shack. He pushed opened the door, half-dragging, half-carrying Remus in along with him. He kicked the door shut behind them, looking around the old house and shaking his head.

Making his way over to the pallet of mattresses blankets he'd snitched from the empty dorm rooms in the Tower, Sirius eased Remus down. "There you are, mate. Now, you can pass out." He stripped out of his robes and slid in beside him, intent on doing that exact thing himself.

	"Thanks," Remus mumbled, savoring the heavenly sensation of warm blankets and soft pillows. He turned himself over to face Sirius and pushed himself closer to the warm, comforting body of his friend. He took Sirius's hand and pressed a kiss into his neck. "Thank you for being here." 	Sirius smiled and settled himself as close as possible to Remus, reaching down to pull the blankets over them. He hummed as he felt Remus's mouth on his skin. "Every time, Remus. 	Sirius kissed Remus's brow. "Love you," he murmured and slept as well. The shadows from the afternoon sunlight lay across the end of the bed when he awoke. Sirius groaned and opened his eyes, blinking several times and groaned again as he remembered where he was. "Moony. Moony, wake up and tell me you're all right."
