Action Scene: Draco returning home

Narcissa sat at her desk in her own study, penning another letter with her long white feathered quill. There were many letters left to write to any official working at the Ministry who owed the Malfoy family favors as well as currying favor with the families who were currently the darlings of the public eye. She smirked and reached for another parchment. There was still the matter of Harry Potter and her dinner invitation. That would go a long way in restoring the Malfoys' reputation and name.

	Narcissa walked over and sat on a plush chair, crossing her legs. "I am sure you are aware that the Malfoy name is in dire straits right now because of the Dark Lord. However, Harry Potter is the darling of society. If he is seen with us, our prestige will rise accordingly. I will invite him to dinner at the manor as the first step in that plan." 	Narcissa shrugged a shoulder. "I saved his life, and so did you. He owes us, Draco. He may not like it, but he will accept the invitation." She steadily met his gaze. Narcissa nodded curtly. "I did. Long story short, the Dark Lord cast a Killing Curse on him and he died." She shook her head. "Then he wasn't dead, but the Dark Lord was hurt and I checked to see if Harry was alive. He was, and I lied to Him. I lied to the Dark Lord so your father and I could rush into the castle and find you." She glanced away, sitting up stiffly. "Draco, you mean the world to us. To me."

Draco stared at his mother after her outburst, speechless. She wasn't one for declarations. Actually she was, if possible, worse than Severus when it came to matters of feelings. He could imagine what it cost her to admit this out loud. He rose from the bed and made his way over to her, crouched down in front of her, and took her hand in both of his. "I know Mother," he said softly. "Whatever you feel needs to be done, I will support."
