Lorna
Gert's definition of asking for permission had always ran more along the lines of simply informing people of her intentions before she performed an action, and if she waited until the moment prior to the action before making those intentions known, well, that was just her. It would have been nice if she could say that Xavier's had left an indelible impression on her, but Gert's personality had formed so precisely and keenly in her early years that she had not been molded much. It had always been a refuge from her parents, though, which she was grateful to it for. And she supposed that she could also give it a bit of credit when it came to bringing her and Chase together, although actually giving props to an inanimate structure was a bit more capricious than she could typically tolerate.
Of course there were areas that Gert had not been allowed into when she was a student. There were also changes that had been made since the grand world slip and slide into the worst sort of Choose Your Own Adventure book imaginable. Gert had the need to catalog and acquaint herself with her surroundings as much as possible. Long before the zombies had come, she had known every inch of Chase's van. It had been been comfortable and safe primarily because Chase was there but also because it was known. The school was no longer the known thing that it had once been.
She and Old Lace were walking the halls of the sub-basement, peering into this room and that. Gert had no need of a paper and a pen. Her mind had learned to whir right along and keep up with her. It was easier when Old Lace was out and taking the brunt of the subconscious stream of feelings and thoughts. There was no space for those at the moment. The dinosaur was still slightly morose and quieter than normal, subdued.
Gert did not need to speak to her aloud, but she did most of the time out of habit the same way that Chase typically did with his gadgets. "It's okay, girl," she said evenly as they continued walking. She peeked her head into a room, and chuckled. "I could never pull off green. You're lucky."
