Who: Kurt, Jean-Paul and Bobby
What: heading off a breakdown
Where: the roof
When: Thursday evening
Warnings: no clue as yet
Status: Incomplete

He knew he was over-reacting. Drastically. He knew he couldn't expect people to simply stop mentioning him. Worse, he knew he shouldn't want them to. Knowing didn't change the reaction, though, and as soon as Lorna had mentioned him, mentioned Scott, Kurt had simply...shut down. It was the only way he seemed to be able to cope with it at all. He'd turned off his computer, set his 'phone' to only chime if he received an emergency signal, found a very large bottle of very cheap vodka at the top of his closet and taken it, and a handful of slightly stale suckers, to the questionable safety and comfort of the roof. At night. In the middle of winter.

It was a clear, crisp night, no clouds to blot out the stars and no lights but the few from the house below him to compete with their light. It would have been warmer with clouds and snow, of course, but he preferred it this way, and he tucked himself into the shelter of a chimney, a relatively light jacket and his own built in fur coat more than sufficient when combined with the warmth of the alcohol, which he was drinking directly from the bottle. Scott had never understood his love for the roof, had never come up here with him or after him. He wasn't sure if that made it easier or harder, really, it was simply where he came when he needed to be alone and not have to worry about the face he showed the world.

He took a large swig from the bottle, grimacing slightly at the burn as well as the way it mingled with the rootbeer flavored sucker in his mouth, and laid back on frigid tile of the roof, gazing up at the stars and remembering. Remembering just how very badly he'd failed.

He recognized the effort for what it was, but he was too exhausted, both emotionally and physically, to react with more than a soft snort. The long day on patrol and the emotional strain of the last few hours had worn him down, and instead he just curled obligingly closer to JP, more than willing to try and push it all into the background again for the moment.

It too a moment, but he finally mustered the energy to reach back and pat Bobby almost absently. "Don't worry, your balls are safe from me," he mumbled wearily.

Bobby stood. "Come on. It's cold as all hell out here. Time for all good scouts to be in a warm bed." He hooked his thumb over his shoulder at his partner. "You can snuggle in his."

Not from me. JP mouthed over the top of Kurt's head at Bobby, giving him a mock threatening look before smiling as he grazed his hand down Kurt's back. It was followed up a few seconds later by a slightly confused frown in Bobby's direction. "You're not coming?"

He sent a small spike of cold to the snow by JP's ass. "That'd kind of defeat the purpose, don't you think?" he replied.

JP's ass was already considerably cold, and slowly numbing, but the added chill from Bobby crossed the line into near-painful. He jumped a little with a shout, unintentionally jostling Kurt a little, glaring down at the frozen area, then back at the blond. His stare hardened a bit as he patted a hand to Kurt's shoulder in way of an apology as he hissed at Bobby. "Jackass!"

He held it for a few seconds before it softened, and once again he looked confused. "No, really, you're not?"

JP hadn't moved when Bobby did, so Kurt stayed leaning companionably against him. It was cold, but JP was warm and he was so verdammt tired. It didn't seem worth the effort until he had to, though the prospect of not going alone to a cold bed was more than appealing. Not appealing enough, though, as he started to catch the gist of the argument passing over his head, and after JP's final, obviously confused, inquiry, he pushed himself slightly away from the other man, though it took him a moment longer to realize where his tail was and extricate it.

"I'm fine on my own," he mumbled, words thick with both his accent and exhaustion. He gathered himself with uncharacteristic care before pushing to his feet. Whatever was going on here it was obvious where JP wanted to be, and just as obviously he didn't need to get in the middle of it.

He didn't manage to get anywhere near a smile as he eyed the pair of them, but some of the tension from earlier was gone, and his gaze wasn't quite as blank as before. "Gute Nacht, und dankeschoen."

"Kurt Josef Wagner." JP spoke as sternly as possible, folding his arms over his chest as he eyed the other man. "You're going to my bed and you're cuddling me in the plush blankets until we both pass out from our amazingly fantastic, overwhelmingly unappreciated awesomeness. And then you're going to wake up and make me French toast."

He stood regally, brushing himself off before folding his arms over his chest, giving Kurt a look that told him there was no sense in arguing, backing up that expression with even more clarification. "You have no choice in the matter." He paused before tilting his head to the side briefly as if reconciling. "Except the French toast. You don't actually have to do that."

His gaze went to Bobby with a glare that was getting familiar by now. "And if Bobby wants to be unsociable wiener schnitzel, then he can sleep alone tonight. And not potentially get French toast that I may or may not get in the morning."

"Or I can freeze him to the roof," Bobby added, leaning back in his stance. "Whichever's preferable."

He blinked blearily at the pair of them for a moment then scrubbed a hand across his face. "I'm too tired to even figure out which one of us you're threatening to freeze to the roof," he mumbled at Bobby. "And as for beds-" He shook his head slightly. "I just want to be in one. And asleep. As soon as possible." And for as long as he could be before the nightmares came.

JP raised his hand, glaring at Bobby. "I call it." With that he moved to the blond, stealing a quick kiss from him before chirping. "Don't stay up too late, you'll need the rest." He didn't elaborate, but moved back to Kurt, dropping a hand lightly onto his shoulder. "Alright, Bluey. Want me to help you get down there? Don't need you poofing around all drunk-like. You'll end up in Tony's area and I don't think any of us really want to know what that guy would be doing around this hour."

Bobby blinked at him, eyes narrowing slightly. Kurt wasn't that drunk. And they'd never physically kissed as a joke when they were both in denial. They hadn't talked about it as yet, merely enjoyed their revelation together for the private moment it was.

It wasn't that Bobby had anything against people knowing, or even PDA. He didn't care who saw him doing what. But there was the slim chance that if it got around, they wouldn't be partners anymore, and that Bobby simply could not allow.

He didn't crack a joke, just chose not to acknowledge. It'd be better not to call attention to it if they could help it. Kurt might not even remember tomorrow - if they were lucky - and giving him a trigger to help it surface was not Bobby's idea of careful planning.

He crossed the roof, smoothing out the weight as he went. With a flagged wave he jumped off.

Okay...that was new, and fairly unexpected. It rated another slow, perplexed blink, golden eyes winking out in the darkness then reappearing like beacons. But then Bobby was gone, sliding off the edge of the roof, and JP was talking again and...he took a slow breath and let it go. One more thing to let slip away from this very long night, though it put JP's earlier inquiries into a somewhat different light. Which didn't matter just then.

He leaned into JP's side with a quiet sigh, tail coiling uncionsciously into place again, and nodded. "Bitte. Though I'd be more concerned with ending up inside a wall than in Herr Stark's bedroom."

JP watched Bobby as he went, but turned his attention directly to Kurt. He only moved to situate himself in front of his friend, crouching a little with his back facing him, his arms situated a bit behind him to catch Kurt's legs if he decided to follow through. "Hop on, I'll take us down."

He felt about eight years old, but he didn't particularly care...and never really did. Though he stepped more than hopped, rearranging his tail slightly but leaving it in place as he wrapped his arms around JP's shoulders and drooped his forehead against the back of his neck. The warmth of a familiar body was grounding and reassuring in a purely visceral way, and his eyes actually slipped shut as he waited for JP to take them down.

JP was relatively used to carrying a passenger, though maybe not in that particular fashion. It was actually a bit easier this way, and he knew the path from where they were to his window like the back of his hand. He lifted off from the roof carefully, simply drifting down to his room silently, his hands wrapped around Kurt's legs.

When they got the window he was glad that he'd left it open a few inches as it had gotten a bit stuffy during the day after he'd cleaned a bit, using his foot to slide it the rest of the way open, carefully climbing inside.

Depositing Kurt carefully on the bed was his first task, getting him settled as best as he could before moving to close the window again, kicking off his shoes, socks, and jacket. He left them where they fell, crawling into bed next to his friend, happy to just get comfortable for a few seconds. He instantly felt more tired just by laying down, a testament to how nerve-wracking the past few days had been. Maybe he needed a good night's rest almost as badly as Kurt.
