Who: Leech and Victor
What: Playing video games
Where: common room
When: Sunday afternoon
Rating: probably PG?
Status: Incomplete

It was Sunday, the official 'day off' for pretty much everyone unless they were an obsessive workaholic or something really needed doing. Which meant there was always someone working on something somewhere, but for Vic it meant dragging out the gaming systems in the common room and the box of games under it...even if it did always feel sort of incredibly wrong to be doing something so normal when just outside the walls they'd erected the rest of the world had gone to hell. He hadn't been off the grounds in two years, now, but he knew that they were probably one of the only places left in the world with reliable power and luxuries like video games. Hell, they were probably one of the only places left in the world with luxuries like consistently having enough food to eat. But if he thought about that too much he'd have a mental breakdown, so instead he applied himself to finding a game.

"You want a racing game or something different?" he asked. He was pretty easy, really, he just wanted the distraction and the company. And it wasn't like Leech would ask for Resident Evil or something...and even if he would have, they'd gotten rid of every copy of that game in the place a long time ago.

Jimmy caught the game and looked at it, grinning at the cars on the cover. It was the epitome of pointless and mindless fun. You drove really fast and smashed your car into things. What could be better than that? And more pointless? He'd never even learned how to drive a car and maybe he never would now. This was the closest he was getting.

"Awesome," he said as he took the disc out and tossed the case onto the table before putting the game in and grabbing a controller. "Co-op or competing?"

Vic's thoughts were running along similar paths, and he fiddled restlessly with his control while Leech got the game set up to go.

"Co-op to start and then I can kick your butt on competing once we've warmed up a bit?" He grinned at Leech to take any sting out of the words. Green guys had to stick together, after all...even if he currently wasn't green. Which had taken a lot of getting used to way back when, but after all this time it was just a bit of a novelty.

"You, um...you ever wonder if we'll ever get a chance to do this for real someday? Drive, I mean?"

Jimmy just shook his head at Vic's boasts of butt-kicking.

"It is so sad, how some people get delusional about beating me at video games," he sighed as the game started up and he flipped through the car selections. "I was going to suggest co-op so as to not hurt your feelings," he teased.

"As for driving, well." He gestured to the screen where a sleek street racing car was displayed. "We might get to drive like, a beat up truck, but we won't be driving that."

"Me delusional?" Vic reached over and patted Jimmy on the shoulder. "It's so cute when you get delusions of grandeur, Grasshopper. Sit back and learn from the master." Even if odds were pretty even that Jimmy would be the one doing the butt-kicking. Trash-talking was like some adolescent reflex, it made the whole experience seem more normal somehow.

Vic sighed and looked longingly at the car on the screen. "Yeah, really driving a car like that must've been something, huh? Or even one of those sporty things Angel used to show up in."

"Oh man, you know, even if we only had one to drive like, half a mile, it'd be awesome, wouldn't it?" Jimmy asked, pulling up the car's stats on the screen. Not that they meant a whole lot to him in real life. The game was a far cry from reality.

"Come on, pick a car and let's go kick some computer bumper," he urged Vic. "I want to try this one course, it goes up into the hills and it's got all these alternate routes and shortcuts. I keep falling off the bridge in the middle when I do it alone."

"Yeah. Just, like, back and forth up the driveway would be better than nothing." Vic settled back more comfortable as Jimmy accessed the car's stats, then cycled through the options until he'd picked something complementary for himself.

He licked his lips and was distracted by the always bizarre feeling of a short, stubby, 'normal' tongue so that it took him a moment to answer the rest of Jimmy's statement. "Oh man, I know that spot. It's a total bitch."

Once they both had their cars picked out Jimmy scrolled through the various races and challenges they'd unlocked in the game. By now they'd played it so much that pretty much everything was available, but there were a few levels that they had yet to beat. It was one of those things Jimmy knew shouldn't frustrate him so much, what with being a frivolous little video game challenge, but still. It did. It wasn't like he could beat many challenges out in the real world. The least he could do was win a game.

He found the race he was looking for and glanced over at Vic. "Want to go right at it or do a couple of warm-up races first?"

Vic could relate. They were, in the grand scheme of things, kind of useless in a way that hadn't really mattered in a world that hadn't been about day to day survival. Sure, they made themselves as useful as they could wherever they could, but it wasn't the same as what the 'adults' were doing. Which sort of annoyed the shit out of Vic, it wasn't like they weren't competent and reliable, after all. At least with video games he could kick something's ass.

"Definitely start with a warm-up." Because the whole point of ass-kicking was missed if he failed due to lack of preparation. "Then we can move on to kicking the game's butt, and then we can see which one of us is the champion." He grinned over at Jimmy and shoved a hand through his hair...because hair actually was a novelty he might never get over.
