One of the scout teams had reported one of the engines was running a little rough, so Lorna told Sam she'd check it out. If it was something she knew how to fix, great. If not, she'd put it aside until Sammy could look at it.

So far, she wasn't finding anything wrong. Still, changing the oil couldn't hurt, this one was about due for it anyway. Getting everything together, she opened the hood and the oil cap, then slid under the car to start draining the oil. One advantage to being a magnetokinetic was she never lost the oil cap, since it was metal.

Lorna frowned as she sensed an unfamiliar, hot energy signature. Had to be one of the new guys. She hadn't been around either of them to be able to identify them by their signatures, but they both had hot signatures. "Which one are you and what you do want?" she called, because right now she was kind of busy.

Well, if she was going to make fun of him, he could follow suit. Not like he wasn't used to all that as it were. "Can't you tell chère? It's 'pparently my charm." He might have his moments there, but that was definitely not even close.

Not really caring so much about the grease, he just laughed. "Merci." Making his way a little closer towards the front end of the vehicle, he smirked. "Dere's only a few places dat a femme should get dirty an' under de hood of a car not be one of dem." Not that he was sexist or anything, but unless someone was actually interested in certain things, it just seemed a damn shame that they had to do so because of current times.

Peering down at the engine, he looked for any obvious imperfections. "Well den what be de issue you be havin' dat you believe an oil change gonna fix?"

Well, at least he had a sense of humor. "Full of hot air?" she suggested. "Yeah, should have known. That would explain a lot."

Yeah, the sense of humor was actually making up for a lot. Not the whole smarmy ladies' man thing. But it was making him tolerable. "Yeah, well, cars don't fix themselves," she reminded him. "And if we waited on you guys to do everything, nothing would ever get done."

But since he was being somewhat helpful. "The scouts said it was driving rough. I couldn't find anything that was cracked, shifted, loose, out of fluid, or deteriorated. So I'm stumped. This one is due for an oil change next time it goes out, so I did it early, just in case."

Smirking, Remy grabbed hold of a rag that was lying around and charged it. "Full of a lot of tings actualmente. I toss it up and it goes boom." Quick and easy explanation. Pull the charge right back out of the rag he put it back down.

Nodding, he just kept grinning. "True, mais, can't say dat I'm part of dat issue since I choose to finish all dat I start. Not my fault I'm not 'llowed to do much since I got in." And how that aggravated him because he really needed more to do then go play fight.

Mauling over what she had just told him, he cocked his head to the side, "Nice list ya got, but what's it sound like?" No popular mechanics books for him. Everything he knew was by doing.

Lorna watched as he charged the rag and then stopped. "You can alter the energy an object contains, making it high combustible," she concluded. "Interesting. Just inorganic objects or anything?" Yes, she was curious. About almost all mutations, especially one that directly affected the energy that an object contained, since she could actually see the change. The Cajun had just made himself more interesting without even trying. She wondered if he'd figure that out.

Okay, that she could understand. Lorna didn't get the whole policy beyond making sure the newcomers were supervised awhile and yes, keeping out of the sub-basement did make sense. But not giving them anything to do was stupid as fuck.

Stepping back, she waved the wrench towards the end. "Well, one I've changed the oil, you can listen for yourself," she told him. "I am still learning. I've been doing it a year, because if I didn't help, Sammy would be doing it all by himself. You have more experience, you have officially made yourself useful. Imagine that."

Raising a brow at Lorna, he just replied with, "Inorganic." And how he was glad for that one because the things he was able to make blow up before his little surgery scared him a bit too much. "An' only wit touch." He added after a moment, even wiggling his fingers at her.

Leaning against the vehicle with one hand, Remy scratched his cheek with another. "More waitin' games den eh? How long ago did ya start?" With his luck, just as he walked up, but he was still going to ask. "I be useful in many ways. You be surprised." And just because he could, he made that statement sound so much worse then it was intended and even winked at her for good measure.

What? She was a scientist! Not that she could practice in her field much anymore, but she was far more than just a pretty face. She nodded, then let go of the wrench in her and levitated it to him. "I'm a magnetokinetic," she explained. "Like Magneto was. Which gives me an advantage in automobile repair, considering how much metal is in most engines."

Lorna smirked at his comment. "Patience is a virtue," she reminded him. "I just got the pan open when you snuck in unannounced. I wasn't expecting help. My automotive shop teacher is busy with his brood of younger siblings. If I could fix it myself, good. If not, I'd have him look at it when he had more time. You just became plan C. So keep your shirt on. But you can finish changing it, if you're so eager for something to do." She levitated the wrench over to him. "Show me how it's done, Remy."

Raising both brows now, he smirked. "So den you could be de one puttin' dis poor car outta it's misery or playin' doc an' makin' it all better wit'out much worry den? Surprised it needs fixin' den. You don't just go movin' it 'round out dere on your own?"

"A virtue I have no probleme wit until I feel a bit like a prisoner when in fact, I never been in prison. Almost 'fraid to drop de soap or somethin'. Fiddlin' my thumbs or playin' footsie wit Raven for trainin'." He joked. "Tends to wear an homme's patience a bit thin, 'specially when you be out dere for so long used to movin' an' den wit more den enough energy on top of dat." He shook his head only to give an easy grin. "Patience be fleetin' at de moment."

"Plan C?" He questioned. "An' keep my shirt on? Strange request, an' wit gettin' dirty don't dat mean takin' it off?" Shrugging, he took the wrench and twirled it around in his hand a bit only to take a look at the engine himself. "Could be lot'ta t'ings, but need to hear her purrin' first. Could be a sticky valve causin' a misfire. Maybe fuel pressure? Might be a leak in dere. Or de ignition even. No tellin' really."

So, Remy being Remy, put the wrench down and pulled out the deck of cards he kept in his pocket. "Since we be waitin' anyway? Show you a card trick? Might be worth keepin' dat belle smile on your face for a bit eh?"

"An automobile has over 10,000 moving parts," she informed him. "Can you split your concentration even a fraction of that and still not blow yourself up by accident?" Lorna gave him a pointed look. "Didn't think so." Concentrating on the engine, she moved a few parts with her powers to prove a point. There was a distinct green glow around her eyes this time, since she was channeling quite a bit of her power. Then she stopped. "It's harder than you make it sound."

Lorna could sympathize with his frustration. "It doesn't make any sense to me either," she admitted. "I don't make the rules. I'm just the resident jack of all trades, since there's not much use for geologist in the zombie apocalypse and I can't affect them directly with my powers very well. Beating their heads to a pulp or stabbing through their brains with a hunk of metal is a lot more complicated than it sounds, especially when I'm trying to take out multiple zombies with limited workable materials."

She rolled her eyes as she hoped he was playing dumb. "Plan A was I fix the car. Plan B was Sam fixes the car because I can't. Plan C is you get a crack at it, because I'm generous like that." As for taking his shirt off so he could get dirty, she just rolled her eyes. "Do your come ons actually work or is it just some clever ploy to make us women take pity on you for trying so hard?"

Lorna rolls her eyes again and folded her arms over her chest. "Doesn't take that long for an oil pan to drain," she reminded him. "But why not? Okay, Cajun, impress me."

Remy just shrugged. "Who be needin' all dat? Just put it in neutral an' roll. You'd be fun in a good push start, non?" Though it was interesting to see her move around a few things. It made him wonder if it was any harder for her to move larger objects, considering his own abilities. "Or be it de size?"

"Geologist?" Well wasn't that something. "An' den tryin' to keep said workable materials after. Not so easy." Remy quickly agreed. Jokingly, he decided to ask, "But dat don't mean you gonna be offended when I charge some rocks an' blow up d'ose zombies are ya? If so, den I be sure not to do so in front of ya."

Putting a hand over his heart, he pretended to be actually hurt by her comments. "You wound me. You don't t'ink I can fix dis hunk o'junk? Really?" Remy tsked her, only to walk around the car and made his way over to the driver's side to take a peek inside before walking back over to her. Props for them for never having to hot wire it. "An' I do enjoy pity. Why else would I be enjoyin' lettin' Raven kick my ass? To show folks my flexibility?" He couldn't help but laugh. "She might not have much of it to be givin', but dere always be somebody."

Springing the cards between his hands, he smirked. "Now you just be askin' for it eh?" He joked, only to start shuffling the cards in his hands. Moving a few steps over to a work bench, he cut the deck in threes, one handed, only to look up at her to see if she was really paying attention. "Now you just tell dis Cajun when to stop." The moment she did, he fanned all but five cards that were on the bottom of the deck, on the bench. Showing her each of the cards (five of hearts, queen of spades, ten of diamonds, king of clubs, and a jack of hearts) without seeing them himself, he quickly pushed them together into the deck and picked them all up in one good swoop of his hand. Shuffling the cards again, he tossed the king of clubs out of the deck and onto the bench, followed by the five of hearts, ten of diamonds, and queen of spades.

Fanning the cards out on the bench again, except they were face up this time, he went searching for the last card, even feeling his own pockets for good measure. "Could'a sworn," he muttered, only to give Lorna a knowing look. "Chère, you t'ink you could be checkin' your pockets s'il vous plaît?" Of course, the moment she did she would easily find the jack of hearts that was missing.

Lorna hehed. "Yeah, except cars are heavy and I can't manage more than 800 pounds. Fixing them to run on their own is the better route. Size does matter, after all." She was not flirting with him.

Much.

Especially after he said that. And he'd been doing so good for a minute there. "Geology is more than rocks," she pointed out. "Unlike what's clearly rattling around in your head." She shook her head. "My specialty is atmospheric science. Studying the atmosphere, the magnetosphere and how these effect everything on earth." LeBeau had just reduced himself to a pretty face again.

As for why he let Raven kick his ass everyday, she scoffed. "I figured you were just a masochist," she pointed out. "After all, you're still trying to flirt with me. Although I'm sure if you're that flexible, somebody will find a use for you."

"Ooh baby, give it to me," Lorna drawled sarcastically. She let him play with the cards a bit. "Okay, stop." Then watched as he fiddled with them. She'd seen tricks like this before, it was all sleight of hand. And of course a card was missing.

Lorna held up her hands. "No pockets," she told him. "They're coveralls. If you think I'm taking them off to check, you're out of your mind."

"When don't it?" Remy quickly questioned. "But den 'gain, said size tends to be subjective, non?"

Oh how Remy had no problem with being another pretty face. It tended to keep people from really figuring too much out about him, and he liked to keep a lot to himself. Well, other then the usual side cracks and flirting. But real information? That wasn't really all that easy to get out of him. "So den you be de type of femme dat is into gases? Enjoy plants an' all dat?" Looking her over a bit, he found himself still laid back but a bit more serious. "Your powers get you interested in all dat?"

Smirking yet again, he couldn't help himself. "You not be givin' yourself 'nough credit den cher. Dis be de first real chance I got at runnin' inta you. I'd be all too willin' to let you get de drop on me too, 'specially if you'd like to see said flexibility." Hey if she was going to flirt back, yes he was going to take his own flirting there.

Rolling his eyes, he muttered, "Merde. You be no fun." Waving at her, he smirked. "Check your left shoe den eh? Or dat be too much skin too?"

"I've always been more a technique girl myself," she countered. "Skill is better, after all."

Unfortunately, he kept talking, which made his pretty face less appealing. His conservationist jab got a another eyeroll. "Actually, that might be one of the few advantages of the zombie apocalypse," Lorna told him dryly. "Ozone depletion and global warming have probably been slowed significantly from the lack of toxins being poured into the air at an alarming rate." Then he went and got perceptive again. Which didn't uphold his pretty face image much. "Yep, it made it easier to control my powers once I understood more about magnetism. And some of us can't get by on our looks alone, Cajun."

Right, because she wanted to kick his ass. "Not my kind of foreplay," she assured him. "I need something more stimulating than kicking your ass. I don't need to beat on people with my fists. My powers work just fine for it." Which was one of the reasons he was actually still interesting, even if he was smarmy. Because his energy signature was practically crackling with energy. Very, very interesting.

Too bad he was a manwhore who liked to play dumb. That meant getting analytical information out of him about his powers would be like pulling teeth.

"I'm no fun?" she said, raising her brows. "Fine, you check then. But if I don't like where you put your hands, I'll taser your cute ass."

"Zombie apocolypse saves the world," he called out as if it were some grand announcement. "Nice headline, if dere be a newspaper to write it for." Tsking her again, he shook his head. "Can't be so sure of dat. 'Sides, if dat day really comes, I got lots of t'ings I can use for backup." He joked. Sure, he had relied on said pretty face to get him out of quite a few jams, but that didn't mean it got him out of all of them. Not even close. Some of those jams still had him feeling pretty damn guilty, regardless of how long ago they were.

"Dat's too bad. Got no quarms 'bout bein' under a femme any more den I got 'bout bein' over one." Of course he was talking about in a fight. Yeah. Right. Mostly anyway. "'Sides, dere's not'in' wrong wit a femme dat finds talk of errosion an' climate control stimulatin'. Just don't know too many folks you can do dat wit. Feel free to toss a book my way 'bout it an' I see w'at I can do den eh?" Or not fall asleep while trying to read it.

Rolling up his sleeves as if to point out he had nothing up them, he smirked. "Sure you trust me with dose ankles? Might be too much to bear." He teased before winking at her and getting down on one knee only to pull the coverall up a little bit and pluck the jack of hearts right where he said it would be. Standing up he showed her the card, only to flip it in between his fingers a few times before making it appear as if it disappeared. Picking up the rest of the deck he put the set back in his pocket for safe keeping.

"Don't say that too loudly," Lorna drawled. "I don't mind a little dark humor, but most people around here will take it personally." She sobered for a moment. "They're too hung up on what's gone." Okay, not being serious with this guy. He probably didn't even know how to have a serious conversation.

His comment about back-ups got a scoff from her. "I'm sure you do," she said. "Ace up both your sleeves." Her heart wasn't in it anymore. Not with being reminded about how low morale had been around here lately. If it hadn't been for the kids and Bobby bouncing back, she didn't want to think how much worse it would be.

"Somehow, I'm guessing you're one of those who thinks science is boring," Lorna pointed out, all too ready for a distracting subject change. "You're be amazed what you can learn by opening a book, Remy."

"If you get fresh, I'll just knock you out," she informed him. "Cute. What do you do for an encore?" Yeah, she was a tough audience. What did he expect?

Shrugging, he really didn't care too much about what others heard coming out of his mouth, as long as people weren't up in tears. "You never know. May be a good t'ing. Folks 'round here don't seem to be all dat lively. I be good at spicin' t'ings up a bit." Or so he'd like to think. "Den dey be takin' bets on just 'ow long I can stand gettin' my ass kicked."

Oh but she had to go there. "Non, I hold no such belief. Science be very interestin'." He picked up the wrench again, only to charge in and twirl it around in between his fingers, wishing he had his damn bo staff back. "Kind'a like physics and chemistry more den most o'dat." Especially when those damn doctors were trying to explain to him just what it was he could do. Pausing his actions though, he pulled the charge back in again. "Much more hands on an' all dat. Books not as fun as explorin' t'ings on your own. Takes all de fun an' mystery out'ta it all."

Giving her a knowing look, he grinned. "'Parently I fix dis car. But den dat might take a lil' longer. You wanna get dat pan, or you want me to? 'Cause I do believe we just killed a good fifteen minutes or so."

"Our leader committed suicide a couple of months ago," she explained, more to make him understand why everyone was so oversensitive, even if she was just as frustrated. "His girlfriend and mentor died pretty early on. I suppose we should have been surprised he waited as long as he did. But it sent everybody back spiraling down and a lot of them haven't recovered. Just...don't, okay? It's bad enough when it happens on accident, but to do it on purpose will just make trouble nobody needs."

Lorna chuckled and watched him charge the wrench, shivering slightly in reaction when he altered the energy in the metal. Yeah, she was a closet power junkie because of her powers. The Cajun there had some serious power going on and especially when he did it to metal, was a buzz to her senses. "Start with theory, then experiment," she agreed. "That's how I learned my control. But I am curious about how close you came to accidentally blowing off fingerings learning what you know. You've got a lot of active energy. And get your mind out of the gutter, I didn't mean it like that."

Lorna smirked and held out her hand, floating over the oil plug to him. Which was easier for her not to loose in the oil itself because of her powers. "Show my what you got," she invited.

What the hell? Yeah, his expression was noticable. Well, mostly. More like a raised brow and a bit of a creeped out expression. Who in the hell chooses to die on purpose in this mess? And without a cause even? Yeah, he'd run into a few martyrs. Not really his thing, but still. Shaking his head, he just shrugged that off too. Last thing he wanted to think of was how that all went about. Whoever he was, he must have been the biggest dumb ass of all, as far as he was concerned. What kind of good would that do for said dead girlfriend/mentor? Let alone all these people he left here alive? Nope. He wasn't going to think about that at all.

Her shiver did not go unnoticed. Hell, he noticed quite a bit about people, but he had a tendency to not ask too many questions as they usually led to him being asked certain ones. "Dat an' more." He smirked waggling his eyebrows at her, only to laugh lightly. "See, now I'm not one for dat word experiment, but sometimes, it be all you got. 'Specially when every time you go to eat a poor boy de damn t'ing wants to do not'in but blow up." Now regardless of how much he might claim to not care for theory, he actually used it more often then he led on. But it was about people, rather then actual experiments and such. Sometimes things were too much of a mental game with him.

"You'd be surprised wat I can do wit said energy." He pointed out before mimicking her comment. "And get your mind out'ta de gutter." He teased. "Been known to take down a buildin' if de need be. Just takes a lil longer den dat wrench dere. An' a lot less time to get de hell out'ta de way." Because that kind of boom was definitely a killer.

Gladly snatching the plug out of the air, and still holding the wrench, he asked, "Ya got a filter?" Quickly dropping down to the ground and pushed himself under the car, not caring about dirtying his clothes in the slightest but careful not to hit the pan of drained oil, he pushed that out of the way and towards Lorna.

Yeah, it sucked. Lorna couldn't find it in her heart to blame Scott. He wasn't the only one who'd done it. Losing his father figure and the woman he loved in one blow had been too much obviously. But Scott, being Scott had broken slowly and finally just gave up. But it had been an critical blow to morale and it was only now getting up there. No need to make things bad again being insensitive.

Lorna scoffed and shook her head. "Too bad you didn't meet me sooner," she told him with a small smile. "Because I can tell you at a glance, the energy is kinetic energy and what you do is change the energy in objects to kinetic energy. Because of the nature of that energy and the fact you transfer some from your own into it, the object achieves critical mass and explodes."

She shook her head. "Preaching to the choir. I got chased by everything metal and shorted out every electric device I touched for a long time before I got mine under control."

Of course her mind went there. Lorna snickered and shook her head. "I might be, but I can say the same thing about my powers." And he could take that any way he liked. Of course, she meant it entirely the way it sounded. "But since you don't like to experiment, I'll probably have to find another willing test subject for my theories."

The pan was metal so as soon as he cleared it from under the car, Lorna levitated it over to the worktable so it could be disposed of properly. "Should be right next to the pan," she told him. "You need any other tools?" No reason she couldn't help him.

Remy was certainly a little more then amused. "All dat from one lil show? Can only imagine wat you do wit a real one." He teased only to add, "Mais I do got quite a knack for findin' all sorts of potential energy." He told her with another wink.

"Guess dat be a bit worse den tryin' to claim a puppy follow you home eh?" He laughed at the thought, easily picturing that one in his head.

Okay, so she was more fun then he had previously stated and he quickly changed his mind about her, and not just because of that energy comment...mostly. "Merde. Can't say dat I be mindin' it as long as it don't include needles an' the wrong kind of explosions."

Looking around in the small space, he quickly found the filter. "Non. I got no problems makin' due wit wat I got." Changing the filter, he quickly replaced the plug and slid right out from under the vehicle without any problems.

"One little show?" she countered. "You've done it three times there, Cajun. And you've been standing here for at least twenty minutes. Give me some credit. A great deal of my research has been to identify energies and materials by their electro- or biomagnetic signatures. It's the facet of my powers I'm best with. And well, since you've told me what the end result is, guessing the how was pretty easy."

Okay, the puppy comment was funny. "I'm sure my parents would have preferred I bring home a puppy," Lorna snickered. "No they were really understanding, but relieved when Xavier found me and offered me a place at the school." It was a bittersweet memory for a lot of reasons, but for her it was easier to remember those who were gone for who they were and the way they'd affected everyone when they were alive as opposed to mourning their loss forever. She knew if she died, that's what she'd want people to do.

Lorna was a lot more fun than people gave her credit for. She was feisty and smart, just holding people at arms' length had been a way of life for her. She'd had to hide she was a mutant most of her life. That meant not letting people in. Especially charming but hormonal scoundrels especially. "I don't blow things up, Remy," she assured him. "Or use needles. If you really want to know what I can do, you'll just have to man up and volunteer to let me play with all that energy sometime."

She left him alone to change the filter, disposing of the oil and getting fresh to replace it with. She offered him the replacement bottles. "Thanks," she told him, hesitating. "You don't have to help me and nobody's giving you anything to do. So this is nice of you."

"Oui, it be lil' seein' as you still not be seein' de end result." He quickly countered. "Seein' de charge is never as interestin' as bein' 'round for de actual explosion." Yeah, she could take that how she wanted to considering all the comments they've bantered back and forth so far.

Choosing not to offer up anything about his family, he instead went on to ask her about her. "So you been 'ere long time den?" Or so he was figuring seeing as the name she just dropped and the fact that she was probably fairly young when all that happened.

Giving her a curious look, his head cocked to the side easily. "Never said you did. Just don't be believin' dat I wanna worry 'bout needin' to jump out a window or somethin' durin' said experimentin' if you got some petit ami tryin' to walk in." He mused. And with her pointing out that there were no needles involved, he gladly smiled. "Den consider me an easy volunteer for watever you be needin' den chère."

Wiping his hands off as he stood up, he shook his head. "No need for all dat. You put up wit me. Dat ain't 'nough?" He joked before taking hold of the replacement bottle and grabbing a funnel.

"Okay, now I have to see this," she told him. "When we're through here, you owe me a demonstration outside. Unless you're all talk and no show?"

Lorna shook her head. "I went to high school here, learned control," she explained. "Then I went to NYU, worked straight through to my MS and got a job surveying ozone depletion for a government survey. The virus hit and I rushed home to try and find my parents. They weren't there. I don't know what happened to them." She shrugged. Deep in her heart, she hoped they'd survived, but the odds were against it. "So I came back here when I heard that they were taking refugees. Haven't left since." Aside from Bobby making her wonder if it really was hopeless, she had no interest in leaving the colony until Hank found a cure. She could do more good here.

Lorna laughed at the suggestion. "Yeah, if I had boyfriend, would I be flirting with you?" she pointed out. "Let's just say the prospects are kind of lacking around here. I don't have any long lost flings who are going to show up out of the blue either." No matter how shady this Wisdom character was, at least he wanted Kitty. It was something.

And now she was going to depress herself. Especially when he started being nice back. Enough of that. "If you can figure out what's wrong with this car, we're at least even," Lorna assured him. "And you're much more interesting than you give yourself credit for. Although not in the way you think."

"So demandin'." He teased her, but hell if he was going to back down from that. Remy was a showman at heart. If she wanted a show, he'd have a hell of a lot of fun trying to give her one. "Can't say I don't like dat either. All you be needin' to do was ask. I'm not de type to say no to a femme. Might even keep a smile on dat belle face eh?"

Well that was a bit depressing, though everyone here probably had someone they were close to that was out there somewhere alive, or worse. So, he just nodded, listening a little more then he probably let on.

"Just 'cause ya don't seem like de type, does not mean I not be seein' it before." He smirked. "An' in all fairness, kind'a surprised a femme like you not snatched up already." She had looks, brains, and she said so herself about being a jack of all trades. It only added to his curiosity as to what she meant by that anyway. "Prospects be lacking?" He hadn't exactly found his way into knowing everyone around just yet to really understand that one, though at this point, he could probably guess some of it. There were certain things a person could read if they were paying close enough attention.

"At least eh? I usually be some over achiever, but I be guessin' dat even is good for now?" After he finished pouring in the contents of the bottle, he put it handed it to her, taking out the funnel only to replace the oil cap. Turning towards her, he asked, "Is it my heat? Or my mechanical skills den?" Pointing towards the driver's side, he went onto ask, "You mind startin' 'er up?"
