Background:
Zhou Mi is Hangeng's younger brother, and quite predictably, things were more than just a little difficult after the incident between Hangeng and their mother, the one which resulted in his brother running away. Zhou Mi was only 5 years old at the time, and whilst it was difficult for him at that age to grasp the sheer severity of the incident, it was still quite obvious to his young mind that everything had changed, and for the worst, especially his mother. After that night, his mother was an entirely changed person. She wouldn't tell them where Hangeng had gone, or why or how, nothing about what had happened, but there was way his father could accept no explanation, this was one of his children, and it came out eventually during a particularly bad fight, that she had tried to kill him to keep them all safe because the boy had wings growing from his back and something like that had to remain secret. Zhou Mi's father didn't believe it, of course, even though she would insist it was true; it sounded like the story of an already unstable woman who had finally lost it, and eventually she was placed inside a mental hospital, as it was deemed the safest place for her to be.
With his mother gone, and his brother missing (and eventually presumed dead), things could have gone an even worse direction, but his father had always been a kindhearted man, and he continued to work hard to ensure that the rest of his children were taken care of. It was then that Zhou Mi was able to start going to school (and learn more English) and it was school more than anything else that really helped bring out Zhou Mi's personality. He discovered that he liked to talk, a lot, so speeches and oral reports and presentations were always a blast for Zhou Mi, even when a lot of the other kids disliked them; and he enjoyed socialising and being a part of things. So much so that it was about this time he took to joining clubs and groups. He tried several sports before finding out that he kind of sucked at all of them, and the only thing he was any good at was martial arts, so he stuck with that.
It wasn't until a couple of years later, when something strange started happening, and Zhou Mi realised that maybe the story his mother always told might not just be the work of an unstable mind. Slowly, but most definitely certainly, a pair of wings were starting to grow from his back, and Zhou Mi was terrified. Not only of this sudden and rather shocking development, but of what could happen. If what his mother said was true, then this was the reason she was where she was, and why his brother had run away. He knew straight away that he couldn't tell a soul, and as nice as his father had always been, a kind, softspoken man, he couldn't tell him, either. It wasn't too bad at first, whilst they were small he could get away with hiding them beneath baggy shirts, but they weren't going to stay small and so easily hidden forever. Zhou Mi didn't want things to have to change, not now he was actually somewhat settled, not when he had school, and friends, and things he enjoyed. As they grew, he tried at first to bind them to his back, but that hurt and he couldn't ever do it well enough on his own to make it any more comfortable.
Eventually, out of sheer terror and the absolute need to be able to do something about them, he discovered he could draw them back into his body. Without even knowing it, it was a fairly similar process that his brother had previously gone through as well, and in time, with some disruption to his schooling, because he just had to, he learnt how to keep them in for longer and longer. By the time Zhou Mi got to highschool he was able to get through several hours in a day, which was what he had been aiming for, because then he wouldn't have to worry about school at least. He graduated high school, and though he was a smart guy, he didn't go on to college, at the time it was just unfeasible, and he thought it more important to work and earn money, and help out his father in the Chinese herbal store he owned and ran.
Which brings Zhou Mi up to now. At 22, he still lives in China Town, in an apartment with two other friends above a Chinese restaurant, and still works in his father's herbal store, but he also has a second job teaching English to the local Chinese kids, the illegal immigrants who can't go to proper schools. Through this he's found that he really likes working with kids, and certainly doesn't have any qualms about teaching, and had he gone on to university, he might have gone into teaching properly. His wings pose less of a problem for him now, though he struggles to be able to keep them in for a full 24 hours still, he can get through the day he needs to though. He's still terrified of showing them to anyone, though.
For the most part, Zhou Mi is a fairly cheerful individual, and an all around nice guy; he likes to talk, a lot, and he likes to socialise, but he can be quite temperamental, as young as he was whilst everything was happening events still certainly left a deep impression on him, and having never spoken about them to anyone everything has been bottled up deep inside of him for a long, long time now. Having a now insane mother (who he visited occasionally throughout all the years since, and still does sometimes) who tried to kill his 'freak' brother, has its effects on a person.
He continues with the martial arts he took up so long ago, loves going to karaoke, has a random interest in dinosaurs, enjoys reading historical novels and likes collecting superhero figures (Batman is, predictably, his favourite). And his favourite kinds of movies are musicals, (he likes to sing along) and thrillers.
Preferred RP Style: paragraph on the IJ!
Anything Else: Zhou Mi is so cool, he gets his own emoticons :^D!
