Ability: Solar Conversion. She can absorb solar energy and convert it into other forms of energy. She primarily uses her ability as a form of photosynthesis; instead of a tan Keiko tends to gain insomnia unless she is able to burn the extra energy some other way. She can produce bio-luminescence (glow in the dark) with concentration. Keiko does possess the ability to release energy from her hands in the form of concussive blasts or radiant flares, but the after effects are dehabilitating.
Background: Keiko was born and raised in Cerritos, California. The only daughter of a genetic researcher and physician, she spent her formative years in the same hospitals and institutions where her parents worked. Homeschooled and befriended by the adults who had nothing better to do than to test on her, Keiko in many ways missed out on her childhood. Not having the opportunity to meet peers her own age until junior high, Keiko found interacting with her classmates alternately exciting and frustrating. Socially awkward, she kept to the outside cliques until high school. Her best friend, also an outsider with his own condition, encouraged her to join the cheerleading squad. Keiko also seemed to be one of the few nonplussed by his frequent changes of personality. It was from him she gained her sharp tongue and sense of humor.
Known for her seemingly endless energy, Keiko became the life of the party. She also gained the reputation for being OCD. She presided over most clubs that she joined, though many wondered why she and her friend found time for it. Alongside cheer, she was a mathlete, president of the science club and 4H chapter, a member of the martial arts club, and worked at the Gap--all while attending raves with 'Sunny' on the weekends. After graduating and moving to New York to attend Colombia University with her friend as a biochem major, Keiko slowed down somewhat. Her energy seemed to diminish along with the change in climate. Finding her rhythm, she is still prone to being outdoors all day and up and about the city at night.
