Background: Aya, 22 years old, moved to the States from Japan when she was 10; gifted with intelligence, the Japanese school system never pushed her enough and so her parents investigated schools that would push, or even accelerate her, and thus they ended up in the US of A. At first, Aya hated the change and rebelled against her parents, but before long she accustomed, quickly attaining fluency in her now-second language, and excelling at school - but only, really, because she had no other real interests.
As she grew older, however, Aya gained a deep interest in music and art. With time, her parents found themselves struggling to keep her studying between loud music practice sessions and trips out to various places to take photographs/draw/etc., although the art side was nowhere near as much of an addiction for her as the music was. Before long, she found herself spending homework time composing music, and little by little, her schoolwork fell by the wayside until she was barely passing. When a friend of hers asked her to be a model for her photography assignment, Aya found a new love and soon found herself failing altogether.
Faced with pulling her socks up or being dragged back to Japan, Aya was forced to spend more time on her schoolwork and less on her real loves, although she still worked as hard as she could to write music and occasionally star in shots for a friend or two. When she graduated school with average grades, her parents tried to force her into university, but she dug her heels in and refused, and headed out into the city, looking for jobs.
Aya now works as a DJ for a local (read: very small) radio station, covering afternoon shifts five days a week. On some nights, she performs acoustic - just her and her guitar - at bars around the city, trying to get her music heard. And when she has time, and opportunities come up, she takes small modelling jobs.
Aya's not entirely sure what she wants to do, but for now she's happy. She's sure it'll come to her, with time.
