Human/Mutant/Vampire: Mutant Ability: Illusion Background: 25-year old Hiroki was born in Santa Barbara in the happy family of second-generation Japanese immigrants. His dad, the partner in a renowned law agency, allowed for a well-provided childhood, not lacking private language and music lessons and a good part of sheltering. Though Hiroki's always been the rebellious one in the family unlike his two sisters and older brother and after a lot of fights and an attempt to run away from home that lasted ten hours he earned himself more freedom, including attending a public school and quitting the vocal lessons he hated so much.
Hiroki is not sure when first his ability manifested itself, as he remembers his dreams and nightmares turning a little too real sometimes ever since he was six. But slowly he realized that the sudden changes he observed in his surroundings strangely meeting his imagination moments earlier were not exactly normal. Like when he broke that vase and wanted to hide it, and its outlines just melted into the carpet. His surprise was even bigger when his mom didn't see it when she came into the room, he couldn't either even if he knew it was there. Slowly he noticed that sometimes things just changed as he wanted them, sounds appearing in the air when he focused on a melody or his oatmeal changing in chocolate cereal and tasting like it again under his will.
And then at the age of eight, when he was watching a horror movie in his room, and in a state of utter fear focused wishing he wasn't there and imagining another place, his room after a distortion of colors and sounds changed into an entertainment park. Pieces were coming together and soon he was aware of what he could do. He still knew that what he did wasn't real, he didn’t move to another place or make things invisible or create them to last but as slowly he started exploring his power, he realized it wasn't the same way for other people who reacted to the way he modified the surroundings without a trace of disbelief.
His ability helped him get through school safely, improving his looks and voice when he moved through puberty, raising brick walls from the ground in front of the bullies that chased him. Luckily no one questioned what was happening, one of the quirks of what he could do. And which student would admit he saw the things they had when they were back to reality if they didn't want to be ridiculed?
Soon end if school approached and despite the leniency he was treated with compared to his siblings Hiroki still knew what he was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps. Something he never wished, as he had chosen another path somewhere around the age of fourteen, known only to the couple of maids he could trust and who had been saving on haircuts thanks to the young boy. Still applying to the schools his father had chosen, Hiroki waited for his graduation with a plan how to escape the future written for him growing in his mind. And on the weekend after graduation, Hiroki in a t-shit and shorts passed by the kitchen to greet his family and pick up the litter he was going to throw out before his morning jog, something not normal as they had their maids, but no one questioned it as it was just another illusion hiding the fully dressed Hiroki and his suitcases.
After a couple of stops, one year later he reached the other coast. His family determined to find him eventually succeeded but by that time his mother had managed to ease the situation for him, convincing his father to let Hiroki lead his own life if he wanted to keep his son. And luckily, as Hiroki was the second child, the trouble of who’ll inherit the family business was not as pressing.
Hiroki's light-hearted, rather unrestrained -cough-, a little mischievous, and still as rebellious as he was as a child. He doesn’t appreciate being bossed around and taking orders which eventually led him to have his own little but thriving hair salon now.
More about the ability… His illusions usually affect everyone around him, to selectively manipulate the mind of a person requires incredible effort on his side and is more exhausting so he rarely does it. His power has a hypnotic effect, hence no one questioning the reality of the situation if something too drastic happens. Even if it doesn’t make sense, people’s minds still perceive it as real, unless they have a really strong hold on reality and could doubt it in that case, but please don’t assume that all your characters are mentally strong enough to do that in the rp. XD; The power of his illusions can be that strong that it could even kill people. If the other person is under the illusion they are drowning even if no water in reality exists around them, they could drown. Not something he would ever do but just to show you again how strong it is…
And yes, he sees it too but is the only who knows what part of it is real and what not so if there’s a brick wall he “created” he’d walk through it, if he’s in the middle of the ocean part of his illusion with the other person, he won’t try to float as he knows he doesn’t need to. Only when his mind is not fully awake or stable, it affects him, too hence some problems with his dreams.
Preferred RP Style: paragraph over IJ Anything Else: Finally? 8D; And I swear this is the last one. |D; what's with me and Japanese actors/actresses ._.
