Daryn was exhausted. Between taking on extra shifts at the hospital, and other responsibilities elsewhere, Daryn could not remember the last time she had more than an hour or two sleep at one time. That, combined with the typical (and atypical) use of her abilities left her drained. Which made her forgetful. Which had finally caught up to her and caused a big problem. She had just finished the night shift at the hospital and left to return home. However, she had only gotten steps out of the building when she realized she'd forgotten her bag inside. Which not only contained her house keys, but her mutant ID. Thankfully she'd managed to drop her phone into her coat pocket, or else getting back inside would have been even more difficult than it was already going to be. Approaching the guard at the door, Daryn offered a tired, but pleasant smile and typed into her text-to-speech app before playing the message for the man to hear. "Morning. I just left the building, you might have seen me on my way out. I forgot my things in my office, I'm Dr. O'Conner, I work in the hospital. Would you be able to allow me inside to get my ID and my keys? It won't take a minute."
The guard responded before the full message had even played allowed. "No admittance without proper identification. If you don't have your mutant ID, I'm going to have to take you in for investigation."
Incredulous, Daryn just shook her head, offering another, although now slightly annoyed smile. She was tempted to respond telepathically, but that would probably not go over well, considering he was already sticking hard and fast to the rules. Typing again quickly, she sighed to herself in the process before the electronic voice spoke for her. "I understand. I would be more than happy to provide it, but it's in my office. As I just said."
"Are you trying to get smart with me?" The guard gave Daryn the once over and then pointed to the phone. "I'm going to have to take that." And before Daryn can argue, her cell was snatched from her hands and pocketed.
You've got to be kidding me, Daryn thought to herself as she arched a brow at the armed doorman.
