It was extremely hard to lie when she was projecting herself into someone else's mind, there was always a risk that they might hear any associated thoughts that could give her away. She was much better at hiding things via omission. If it was something really difficult to hide, she could always just default to not 'speaking' at all and no one would think that was unusual either.
