“He doesn’t like girl goats,” Lottie replied casually, her focus back on the goodies that Deimos had brought her. The fact that Zed was attacking a truck was such an everyday occurrence, it really didn’t strike her as odd any longer. Without even thinking about what she was saying, she added, “He prefers the chickens.”
Then she completely forgot about her farm animals as her fingers connected with something metallic and cylindrical. A squeal of pure delight escaped her. “Oooo! Steering dampers! You do love me!”
She giggled, digging out the other three, gleeful in her discoveries. “This is just perfect, Dei. Omigods, this is going to be so much fun. You’re gonna help me, right? I mean, not that I need you to help, exactly. I’m pretty good with repairs and I can pick up a Chilton’s guide and probably get most of it. It is a VW, after all, and they’re pretty basic, like I said, and it’s a Thing, I can’t believe you got me a Thing, this is so cool!”
Finally remembering that the hug she’d given had been received by the vehicle rather than the giver of the gift, Lottie pulled herself away from her new toy. Using the trailer as a spring board, she launched herself at her brother, intending to rectify that oversight. Not that he’d appreciate the hug, but he was damn well getting one anyway.
