Nergal suppressed the urge to sigh. Did his father really think he was so dim as to not be aware of how Ninkasi looked at this moment? Did it not occur to him that just perhaps Nergal had a place in that active war zone where no one would question his cousin’s appearance or require her to wear that ridiculous outfit of their religion? Of course not. Nergal was only making things worse.
The war god picked up Ninkasi’s weapons from where she had dropped them. She must be in shock if she just discarded her scythe and blade like that. Poor girl. She was worried that the Greek might not like her anymore. She must have been keeping this side of her abilities hidden from him. Nergal would have to ask his wife if that was a good thing or not. He personally was not good at figuring these things out.
“I will have the Sebitti clean your weapons, cousin. You may retrieve them whenever you have need.” He gave Enlil a brief look. “And I will not dine with you if I am making things worse for you. You know I would never intentionally cause you distress.”
